Jun 19, 2025DISCRIMINATION AGAINST BIG PEOPLE
The staff were extremely discriminating towards me, they called me a very chubby woman in Spanish (Muy Gordita) and my boyfriend understands Spanish. I am appalled, and this isn’t the first incident we have had here with the staff. They are vile people with disgusting behaviour and attitudes towards all people of a bigger size, we have watched other bigger men and women be mocked and treated differently due to their size and shape.

What an amazing place <3
We have just returned from the most amazing week at Riu Caribe. We celebrated our sons 18th whilst there. The hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean, so well equipped for whatever you are looking for. 3 pools, a family pool, a ball games pool and an adults only pool with swim up bar (plus the party pool only open for parties) There is so much food to choose from, caters for everyone all day, every day. 5 restaurants to choose from for evening meal, plenty of space to sit and eat, indoor (AC), outdoors. The bars were nice, the sports bar is air conditioned. The rooms are spacious with sea views and nice bathrooms, plenty lifts to travel up and down covering the 9 floors, the cleaners work hard every day, the mini bars are restocked with beer, soft drinks/mixers and towels changed daily. The spirits in the room were Vodka, Gin, Tequila and Rum. The shampoo/bodywash, conditioner and hand wash were nice. The entertainment in the theatre is OK typical hotel entertainment, our favourite was the circus. The entertainment team never stop, morning til night they are organising fun activities. There are pool tables in the sports bar and table tennis tables by the pool. We just couldn’t fault the place. We didn’t want to leave. We highly recommend for couples, families with older children/young adults or groups looking to party.

Amazing hotel & staff
Hands down the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at for service, food and entertainment. Given room on 9th floor that had fabulous views. Very large modern room with everything we needed. Food was great. Plenty of choice at all sittings in the main restaurant. Steak restaurant was fantastic, ate there 3 times in 2 weeks. Asian also very good but Mexican not so good. Bar staff were amazing. We didn’t wait longer than a minute anywhere for a drink and staff were always polite and happy despite being busy. Was lovely trying all the cocktails, nothing was too much trouble for any staff. Entertainment was also very good. We did visit the RIU parties that were just crazily excellent! Shows in theatre all very good. Plenty to do around pool with activities and games should you wish. Pools were lovely overlooking the beautiful beach. Always able to get Sunbeds at anytime without getting up early to put towels out. Security was top notch, any problems they were there straight away to sort out. I believe they have a policy of throwing anybody out that is too badly behaved and that was reassuring. We couldn’t find fault with anything at all. Can’t wait to revisit.

BEWARE...the staff is corrupt and will call the police at any opportunity and extort you for money!
BEWARE...the staff is corrupt and will call the police at any opportunity to extort you for money!! This all started with a minor (17-year-old) sneaking into a Riu party that was 18+. While it was wrong and he shouldn't have been able to sneak in, the staff chased him and got physical with him, a minor. When the adult tried to intervene and find out what and why that was happening, security then got physical with the adult in the group. They called the police, and he was taken to jail and bribed to pay hundreds of dollars to be released or stay for 36 hours. He was banned from returning to the hotel, even though they had paid for the entire week. Then the hotel staff barged into my daughter's room at midnight while my 15-year-old was alone at the time. She was scared and called me and I immediately went to see what they wanted. They demanded we go down to the front desk to verify our identity. They took no accountability for entering a locked room without permission, my daughter could have been changing when two male and one female employee walked in her room. Besides this horrible experience - the food was terrible, drinks had almost no flavor/alcohol, and all the bottled waters and sodas in the mini fridge in the rooms were refilled and not brand new! I noticed on day two when I went to open a new bottled water and noticed the cap wasn't secured. Then I looked at all the rest and it was obvious they refill them and put them in the fridge as new. We also didn't use the airport transfer we had pre-paid for because when we arrived and checked in at the airport, we were told we had to wait 45 minutes for other passengers to arrive. We waited and were then told they could take us for $30. We gave in and paid so we could get to the resort. When it was time to leave, I asked the front desk about making arrangements for transfer to airport in the morning and was sent to a desk outside who didn't have info on it. We basically got the run around and ended up paying for a ride the next morning because the hotel was no help. While the property itself is decent, based on our experience (and it seems to be a reoccurring issue here based on other reviews involving police) I would not return to this hotel. I hope our friends file a complaint and can get their money back for the way they were treated. It definitely put a damper on our trip we booked together that we couldn't celebrate with them after they were forced out.
