Good stay
Myself & my mum stayed here from the UK for 10 days, and we had such a good time! We tried the Mexican & Asian restaurants, which were both delicious. Our room was a generous size, with two small double beds which was a bonus. The beach is lovely, and very relaxing. That being said, there was a couple of downsides. Firstly, the service when we were greeted at the Mexican restaurant was poor. The gentleman on the front desk showed no enthusiasm, and we had to wait 30 minutes for a table in the half empty restaurant. When we came back, the group of 6 that were behind us in the queue earlier had been seated first. There was only 2 of us, so we felt low priority in all honesty. Secondly, several guests around the hotel were playing music loudly on their own portable speakers around the different pools everyday. If you couple that with the music from the entertainment team & the swim-up bar, it does get annoying. The beach was far more relaxing!

Beautiful Hotel in a Tourist trap area
Beautiful Hotel and food was fantastic. Beach was beautiful, but just in front of Hotel. Don't expect to walk the beach for miles, its very rocky, so you will be walking over rocks or going into ocean to get around said rocks, if you do attempt the walk, it will get very littered with garbage. Out front of hotel is a VERY busy road, you can walk up the street, but it's more hotels OR very expensive 'shops'. ( Very expensive) There are mangroves on the other side of road, try to cross road and walk on that side ( nicer walk ) This is a TOURISTY area. If you want to see Mexico expect to pay mega money on excursions. There is NOTHING near hotel to do. ( Unless you want to pay lots of money) Bring lots of sunscreen, or you will be paying $60 a bottle, if you need more. Overall Hotel is Beautiful and food is great, not a whole lot to do at hotel. Cancun is over rated and a tourist trap. Pick somewhere else to go in Mexico.

People paraletic, reception guest services rude…Too many issues, we won’t be coming back again…..
First impressions, beautiful and I love the refurbishment carried out. I’ve been here before. The layout of the hotel is much better but they have changed to a party hotel and this is not a positive move. Maybe good for profit but not for reputation/health and safety, previous guest experience. Too many accidents, caused by guests getting paraletic. Staff and Riu should protect guests, when they see them too drunk they should stop serving, as a Duty of Care. I would love to see the accident book, if there is one. Girls being sick in the pool daily, had to close the pool. Apparently there is a Riu Jail here, where guests are held until they sober up/police come. Witnessed a guest so drunk he slipped on the tiles near the pool and knocked himself out. Head bleeding etc…trip to hospital. I had made the lifeguard aware of this minutes before this happened, the manager said they cannot control over 1000 people. Not good enough. The tiles by the pool are also way too slippery - they look nice but not fit for purpose. My husband who has not drunk alcohol for 20 years, asked for Diet Coke and was served rum & Diet Coke!!!!!! Which he accidentally drunk. I have travelled to and sold in my previous job Riu hotels all over the world for over 30 years. We were married at Riu Cancun 10 years ago, and thought it only right to come back to Mexico to celebrate. I was rather disappointed with the location of our room and went to speak with guests services. I was actually surprised at how blunt and rude the lady was. There was no acknowledgement of my anniversary, no apology, no offer to fix the issue. Just a rude blunt written down explanation, that I had booked the wrong room, without a smile. I’m 30 years in the travel industry, selling Riu and am telling you that this needs to be made clearer. Room 719 has a side sea view, but was called a sea view room. In the industry, to save mis-selling and disappointing guests this should be changed to a side sea view room. There is a brick wall closing your view out. The reception team were also quite unfriendly, it was certainly not like this 6 years ago and is a shame. Riu seem to have lost what made them stand out from the crowd here at the front desk. We had been to Riu Yucatan the previous week and the whole set up was so much better. Very disappointed and felt this was a waste of money.

Fabulous Vacation
What a beautiful resort! Everything was excellent! The staff was super friendly and always willing to help. Big shout out to Israel the bar cart staff, Fernando at the swim up bar, Antonio at the breakfast buffet, Aury at the dinner buffet and Jorge at check in. You all made the trip extra special and always assured we were having a good time!! The room was spacious and clean and had a great view. The food selection was great, so much to choose from. Location was nice few mins from downtown. Don’t forget the Riu Party!!! So much fun!!!!! Happy with my stay! Will definitely be back!
