Wonderful relaxing time
We had a fantastic stay at Ocean Maya Royale and would happily return. The hotel is immaculate throughout, with rooms cleaned every morning, turn-down service most nights, and the mini-bar restocked daily. The staff are truly amazing — friendly, attentive, and completely guest-focused — with sunbed drinks service running all day. Rooms are accessed via a chip in the wristband you wear for your stay (very convenient, though there is a charge of around $50 if lost). The food was excellent across the board, with great on-site restaurants offering Italian, French, Japanese, Mexican, and Privilege dining, plus a buffet with a huge selection and very attentive staff. There’s also a sports bar open until 6am and a fabulous coffee shop open from early morning until late. The hotel has a large main pool as well as a separate swim-up bar pool playing party music all day. We stayed Privilege, which we’d highly recommend — sunbeds were always available for us, snacks were served at the Privilege sunbeds from midday (guacamole, nachos, fries, burritos, tacos — all delicious), and we had a butler who booked all our restaurants, meaning no queuing; without Privilege, it appeared guests needed to queue from around 6pm to avoid the buffet. For non-Privilege guests, sunbeds seem to require an early start despite signs asking guests not to reserve them — we arrived between 9–10am daily and most were already taken. There’s a great gym next to the spa, which offers massages, sauna, and jacuzzi, and appeared to also provide manicures and haircuts. We enjoyed jet skiing on the beach ($70 for 30 minutes in a limited area, but still great fun). Entertainment was excellent most evenings, including a couple of late-night parties, and although the hotel is adults-only, the age range was varied — from late-teen partygoers to older guests, including wheelchair users — and the hotel catered well to everyone. Practical tips: use USD and bring plenty of $1 bills, as tipping is expected (and well deserved), though it can take some adjustment for UK travellers. There is a shop on site, but it’s extremely expensive — we paid $22 for paracetamol and over $10 for a tube of Pringles and a bag of M&Ms — so bring essentials with you. Free airport transfers are included but must be arranged in advance. Be aware that toilet paper cannot be flushed and must go in the bins (emptied twice daily), and one downside was occasional bad smells coming from the bathroom pipes; staff seemed aware, leaving bathroom fans on during cleaning, but the glass bathroom doors (with gaps top and bottom) meant smells couldn’t be contained, and windows do not open. Excursions can be booked in reception, though prices are high, so researching ahead may be worthwhile. There is also an exit tax (around $23 per person) payable online — we paid and weren’t asked for proof, but others were at the airport. Finally, a side note for BA business-class travellers: the lounge at Cancun airport is before security — once you pass through, there’s no return and you’ll be paying airport prices. Overall, a brilliant hotel, and for us, Privilege was absolutely worth it for the added comfort, access, and ease of dining.

Magical Experience!!
We had the best time here, everything was wonderful. The employees are so kind and helpful. We loved the activities of the hotel, when we were here there was a foam party, fire show, circus night, silent disco, and lots of other activities during the day. We also loved the photographers (Fabi, Edu and Arantza) they were very knowledgeable and professional. The check in process was also really easy and fast, our agent Kevin made sure we were comfortable the entire time we were here, not just at the beginning. The service at the restaurants was subpar! We had a very professional waiter, Daniel, that was extremely helpful and friendly, but all the waiters here are the same way! When leaving, the staff (Hector and Elder) was extremely helpful by offering to take our bags, drivers us around in the golf carts, and schedule any taxi or tour we needed. Overall, our experience here was magical and I’m so happy I picked this resort!

Amazing Ocean Maya Royale
This is my 3rd time at OMR , this place still amazes me, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The facilities thought showing some signs of ageing are being improved and maintained continuously. The food is full of favour and in many cases a delight to eat. But the most important key factor that brings me back to this charming mid size resort is the staff. The blue entertainment team was great.a special shout out is to the charming and true hearted Viri who made it her goal to bring love and happiness to everyone. I have Leidy as my personal butler. Gabby and Carolina with there bright smiles serving breakfast at the privilege lounge. Jose the privilege beach towel attendant, who has an enjoyable and witty character trying to help improve my Spanish.
