Another great trip to Occidental Cozumel
This was our 4th visit and we had a great time as always celebrating our 19th anniversary. An amazing location in a dense jungle filled with animals and beautifully well kept grounds. The room was comfortable and very clean and the beach is beautiful. The night shows that we saw were very good. We loved snorkeling at the resort as well as our excursion with Albertos Glass Bottom Boat. Our time spent there was enhanced by the great staff, some whom we have known for several years. We would like to thank the following staff members who made us laugh and for their great work and frienship: Buffet (both indoors and by the beach): Cristal, Edit, Angel, Crisly and Evan Animation: Jesus, Milixa and Francisco Towels: Carlos Sonora restaurant: Raymundo, Olegario and Oscar El Coral restaurant: Miguel The only improvement that could be made would be to have more diversity in the suppers at the buffet, which seemed better at our previous visits and to add some à la carte restaurants. OK but not great
We stayed here for 5 days with the main purpose of diving which was excellent but be aware that the dive groups can be up to 8 persons pr. divemaster which is more than we prefer or expect. The resort is nice and well kept and the staff we engaged with were excellent. The food & beverage is ok but not great. We got descent food every day but definitely not a culinary experience, the availability is also a bit limited/restricted due to limitations in opening hours in the various places, As an example the bar at the adult pool closes at 5 pm so its a relatively long way if you are by this pool after a day of diving and need something to drink.
Fabulous Resort in the Jungle Right on the Beach
If you ever wondered what the garden of Eden was like, this is it. Set in a pest controlled dense jungle with a large private white sand beach at one end, several crystal clear swimming pools, great food and exotic drinks, provided at each end , and a very romantic atmosphere throughout the complex. Not like other all-inclusive resorts that tend to be arranged in one or two multi-story buildings that face each other with 100's of neighbors, this resort was designed with you in mind. There are 14 or 15 resident buildings randomly spaced between the lobby complex and the beach area that house 12 or 14 rooms and suites in each building. Between the generously spaced buildings and the dense foliage there is no visual clue you have neighbors close by. Though ,the resort is all inclusive and extremely inviting we recommend you get out, explore the island and meet the people, it is a great and friendly place. Rent a car and stay at least a week, you'll love it.
Amazing Scuba Diving!!
The best part of our trip was scuba diving with the dive shop located on-site--PRO-DIVE International. Marion is the woman in charge of the shop and she took care of all our needs!!--We got certified for Nitrox diving and Advanced Open water diving (Thanks Christina & Hans--for teaching us and diving with us!!). The staff was so helpful & knowledgeable that it made everything so easy!! My husband and I quickly felt like part of the dive shop family!! Marion made sure that we got all the dives we wanted and was so excited to hear about our adventures underwater and the cool creatures we saw--reef shark, 14 ft green moray eel, and an abundance of turtles, to name a few. Christina, one of the Dive Masters was so generous with me...when I couldn't find a scuba mask to fit me, not only did she lend me her own, but at the end of the trip she gave me hers!!!! How amazing is that!! Hans another Dive Master, was so very knowledgeable about all the dive sites we went to. Before we entered the water, he gave us a full rundown on the history of the site and what we were likely to encounter. From the lovely girls behind the front desk of the shop, to the men giving you your weights and wet-suits, to the Dive Masters (including lovely Liam) and the woman in charge, joyful Marion---our holiday under water was the best!! We thank each and everyone of you !! The most disappointing part of our trip---the food! There is not very much variety, especially if you like salads. Also, if you are a wine drinker--bring your own because their wine is terrible.
Love the beach!
Ok I have mixed feeling about writing a review for this place!! I start with positive reviews: beautiful beach and great service, clean rooms. I have gone to many all inclusive places and I realized the best ones are not in Cozumel, at this place you only have one restaurant to go to eat unless you get the royal service! I went there from a condo close to town because there was no access to the beach.. So I really enjoyed being all day for few days at the beach.. drinks were good specially frozen Mojitos!!!!! Lots of mint!!!! yum So, other than food that I was not happy about, their mattresses are so uncomfortable! There are about 20 buildings, 3 floors, and I was on number 12, no elevator so if you have knee issues request a first floor! There is a nice walk to the beach that didn’t bother me at all. At least I was getting my daily steps.. nice swimming pool, but I didn’t use them. I go to Cozumel for the beach! Distance to Airport costs me $25 pay with their money not AMERICAN dollar, it seems like you save a bit. You also have to pay for WIFI.. I booked with book it.com and could upgrade to Royal by paying extra $35 at the hotel but you need to stay minimum of 3 night to be qualified. No umbrellas at the beach but the palm trees create nice shade! So, if you don’t care much about having different restaurants and have different options and your mattress doesn’t have to be comfy, this place is a place to go..
