    Overall good stay…a few bumps.

Definitely need more than one person at front desk daily. However, front desk agent was kind and professional. Mattress was extremely uncomfortable. It sunk down like a water bed. Room was clean however and lovely toiletry brand. Nobu restaurant for breakfast and dinner was great. Specifically, Manager Q in the evening who can mitigate any concerns and server Julian. Julian was so enthusiastic about my birthday and my friend’s first Nobu dining experience. Everyone was so kind there. Ocean social… so so. $60 for one margarita and three cold steak tacos was not great. Servers and bartenders were very kind. Beach food was abhorrent. Nothing comes at proper temperature. Not fitting of nobu brand at all. Hot guac, cold fries, stale bread, etc. sent it back. Cocktail was sent back too. Ordered wine instead. Beach staff/team was amazing with service and did not make me feel like a burden over it. Spa was just ok. Some staff were rude and hovering, made you feel rushed. Better to book a treatment next door at Lapis Spa. Overall nice stay.

    “5 stars” is laughable

I genuinely don’t understand how this property is positioned as a 5-star “wellness” hotel. The amenities and overall experience were nowhere near that standard.   First, the building doesn’t feel like “Miami art deco charm” — it feels plain dated. The room itself wasn’t impressive, and the soundproofing was awful. I could hear other rooms through the walls the entire stay, which completely killed any chance of rest or relaxation.   As for the “wellness” angle: aside from the hallway aroma (which was nice), there was basically nothing that felt wellness-oriented. The vibe was loud and obnoxious, and there was a wedding party that made the common areas feel chaotic rather than calming.   The thermal suite was also overcrowded, packed with people coming over from Eden Roc. If you’re choosing this place expecting a serene spa experience, don’t.   From an AMEX Platinum benefits/credits perspective, it was frustrating across the board:   The welcome “drink” is more like a welcome shot.   Of course, the $100 resort credit couldn’t be used at Nobu — the literal main restaurant — which says everything.   Breakfast was subpar, and the potatoes tasted like they came straight out of a frozen bag.   Late checkout was the final straw. They make it very clear it’s “based on availability,” but then they turn it into a full-on hassle. I was told to call the day before, then told to come down to the desk to confirm, and then they still couldn’t accommodate even a 2pm checkout. At that point, why advertise it as a meaningful benefit?   And like many places that do this, they charge a resort fee while offering no noticeable resort-level value in return.   Overall: overpriced, disappointing, and there are much better resorts on Miami Beach. I stayed at the Fontainebleau next door and didn’t have these issues. I won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend it — especially not to other AMEX holders.

    A Quiet Luxury Escape

We had a relaxing New Year stay at the Nobu Hotel on Miami Beach. The location isn’t very walkable (besides to the beach), but perfect for a hotel focused getaway. Check in was exceptional thanks to a standout front desk associate who set a great tone. The hotel has a calm, quiet luxury vibe, and our room was spacious with a soft, comfortable bed and ocean facing balcony. A drawback of the room was that there were no balcony dividers, so there was nothing between the surrounding balconies. Additionally, there wasn’t streaming available on the television, which I would have expected from such a high-quality hotel. Dining was strong overall – Ocean Social had an excellent vibe, great food and an unbeatable oceanfront setting, while the Nobu restaurant delivered a standout dinner (if not a little too long for my liking, just about 3 hours for three of us). The beach was enjoyable with very friendly staff. They offer food & drinks, which wasn’t on par with the rest of the hotel. We experienced some inconsistencies like the pillow menu never being fulfilled from the tablet in the room, extended wait for room service, and a disorganized spa experience that kept the stay from being perfect. However, the combination of great service, a lovely room, and a relaxing atmosphere made it a memorable trip.

    Attentive service - nice beach

Shout out to Antonise at the front desk. She was amazing. One of us was quite sick on arrival and she overheard me saying I was going to make tea. She had a tea kettle sent to our room! Thank you!! She also helped us out with some toiletries we had forgotten during our hasty packing to leave the cold North.

A gorgeous property with surprisingly poor quality food

I think that a lot of hotels in the luxury category have become rent extractors: hotels that aim to nickel and dime your existence while simultaneously understaffing most of their spaces. The Nobu hotel is quite lovely but at the same time falls to a lot of the same traps that most luxury falls victim to. The two truly egregious issues here are: 1. The food is mediocre on the property, which is a bit ironic. The buffet included on a lot of reservations is extremely mediocre: my wife had a sausage that was raw in the middle, and the selection is marginally better than a holiday inn continental breakfast. 2. Service is really miss. It takes forever for meals to get delivered to the pool if you can even find a server. They also charge a mandatory 22% gratuity, including at the pool and buffet. This feels particularly egregious given the fact that they absolutely understaff. There is a mandatory 50/day resort fee on top of the 600-800 per night sticker price. I strongly dislike hotels that do this. Pros are that the rooms are gorgeous and they are very attentive to any needs you might need. Ultimately, we got this place on points, and I can’t imagine I’d ever pay for it out of pocket. Nobu and similar hotels take advantage of the asleep millennial who has no idea what the value of anything is. (I was pretty happy with this place up until the buffet and the raw sausage incident. Nobu brand is all about food—why is the food so bad here?)
