    Good overall resort!

Lobby: Quick check in with front desk but immediately approached and pressured to go to a breakfast meeting to become a club member. Our room was ready well before check in time so we were able to go directly to our room which was nice. The cleaners seemed to come around 9am sometimes and are very fast. Room: Rooms are very nice, clean, updated and spacious. The bed was comfortable and had lots of pillows. We had lots of space, probably more than we needed. Large jacuzzi tub which took a while to fill but that was fine. The fridge was well stocked with drinks. It’s important to know that none of the buildings here have ocean view rooms. You can purchase a “near pool” room which will locate you to one of the pools or “near beach” which is a closer walk to the beach. Our room was closer to the lobby on the ground floor. The location was nice to access the lobby and walk to the golf course, but felt a little closed in for that reason. If you want a more open view from your balcony, I would request a “near pool” room so that you can look out into the open space of the larger pool areas. Food: We headed to the buffet the first day and a lot of the meat and food was room temperature-chicken, lasagne, pork. Then at dinner the calamari breading was soft and also nearing room temperature. The steak and lobster were good and hot! Our server was fantastic and on the ball. The cold or warm temperature food at the buffet continued throughout the entire stay depending on what you ate. The eggs Benedict was cold every morning. The heat lamps overhead weren’t large enough to cover the food so I suspect that’s partly why, on top of things sitting out for a long time. I saw them bring out a new tray of calamari but put the few small remnants of the old tray in with the new one. You can have the cooks make you something hot and fresh on the grill so I started doing this. Sliced meat and sandwiches out on display not on ice. A few members we spoke to said they noticed good quality has gone down within the past year. My stomach was on and off the entire time and I was completely out of commission 1 day. This may or may not be a dealer breaker for me because of the discomfort I felt basically every day being there. I don’t drink much so that’s not it. My husband was fine though! The star cafe was really cool and even had matcha! It was like a little resort Starbucks! Water: This is a plastic free resort so you get 2 glass bottles and fill them at refill stations. A club member there suggested my stomach could be due to the water as they have a similar experience, although it’s supposed be filtered. A La Cartes: Really good and tasty, calamari was cool at La Marina the first time but hot the second. It’s nice that most restaurants don’t require reservations. You can order as many appetizers or entrees as you want, not limited to 1 per person. A lot of the restaurants have lobster and it was decent for the Caribbean! It was very easy to book reservations (for the few restaurants that require one) on the app which was nice. I’ve been to places before where the app hardly worked and you had to chase around concierge to book for you and by then only later times were available. Staff: The staff is lovely, attentive, very helpful and spoke good English. Our room was freezing cold so they brought blankets and sent maintenance right away to fix the issue. Whatever regulates the blowing cold air was broken. Concierge was fantastic, they knew I was sick and kept checking in on me. They ordered medication for me from the mobile pharmacy that was delivered right to the lobby. They helped with reservations for a la cartes and even got my tee time refunded for me the day I was sick. There was basically always someone at the concierge desk. I have a ton of respect for all the staff as they are really great and help make the experience a good one. Iberostar Resort Credits: Make sure you check these in the app before you book anything. We didn’t know until the receptionist at the spa told me about them. You get $25 off per $100 spent. This also applies to golf but the clubhouse never told us. Golf: Nice course. It’s a bit long and hilly but manageable for most golfers. The food and drinks are all included there if you golf. Make sure you email the clubhouse before you get there for tee times pargl5@iberostar.com. When it’s busy, they run a 8:30am shotgun start. The clubhouse restaurant has good and hot food! The staff was great there too. Pool: The main pool closest to the beach is very busy and fairly loud. It’s hard to get chairs unless you’re early. To get away from the noise and find a chair, you can move to the abutting pools towards the lobby. The next less busy area is the sports pool that is 4’8” deep so if you’re short you’re barely keeping your head above water lol. There are several bars along the pool strip and poolside bar service. Beach: The beach is very nice. We always seemed to get chairs there, nice bar and grill right on the beach. Soft sand and nice walk out into the ocean. Other: There is incense in lobbies. I am sensitive to smell and got over it fast. The Snake bar was cool but since it was in the lobby it’s all indoors. This lobby is not open and airy and is closed in, but nice that the restaurants are mostly all located here and air conditioned. It is very family friendly, lots of activities and areas for the kids. The spa was kind of cool, an added perk and you got 2 hours a day free. You have to book a day in advance but they were able to get us in the same day once. Overall: As travellers with no kids I would likely opt for a more quiet adults only resort next time. This resort is usually a bit pricier anytime I’ve looked but we got a decent deal going in December. I’ve been to several resorts and I did not find anything extra special about this hotel compared to other average decent “5 star” resorts in Mexico. I would not pay any more than we did to come here again.

Wonderful 80th bday celebration at the Lindo - Maya

We just returned from a week stay at the Ljndo celebrating my 80th birthday. There were 18 of us, (5 rooms). As always the staff at the Lindo/Maya far exceeded our expectations. From our amazing servers Benny, Rodrigo, Brenda and Irving, to Joe, our Ambassador. The amazing staff who cleaned our rooms WAS FANTASTIC. This trip was possibly the best ever. Table decorated with flower petals on numerous occasions As well as the best service for every meal. Flowers in the room, etc. Kuddos to each and everyone mentioned above. They are a true asset to Iberostar!!

Unacceptable Treatment by the Iberostar Group

What happened to us was unacceptable on every level and I feel obligated to help other travelers avoid the stress, expense, and mostly, the disappointment we experienced upon arrival to Paraiso Maya. After years of returning to this and other Iberostar "100% family owned" group resorts, I never imagined I would be writing a review/warning like this. Listed on their own "Commitment" page under their "Values", Iberostar claims: Honesty: the foundation for the solid reputation we have today. Responsibility: to act with integrity, a sense of commitment and in an ethical way. Empathy: which encourages an atmosphere of trust, respect and collaboration, supported by a strong and ever-growing culture of teamwork. Unfortunately, at our most recent visit, none of these values were represented by Iberostar Resorts. After an exhausting and heartbreaking couple years, we desperately needed this vacation. I’m a nurse, and coordinating time off is extremely difficult, especially when trying to match schedules with our adult children who were traveling from another country. We had already rescheduled this trip twice—once after my sister passed away, and again after losing our family dog. We truly needed this break, which is why I was so excited by Iberostar's website advertising: "It feels good to book in advance" and "You choose the exact location of your room. Choose the floor your room is on and your views". We booked four rooms for five nights—over $10,000 in total and a full 10 months in advance. Despite having written confirmations for all four rooms, we arrived to discover that the resort had given the room with the best balcony away to the highest bidder and moved us into a room on the middle floor of the complex with a balcony that stared directly into a wall of bushes. No advance notice. No attempt to contact us prior to our arrival. No opportunity to make other plans. We had adult children and their partners traveling internationally to meet us, so changing plans at the last minute simply wasn’t an option. They waited until all seven of us were captive to their resort and unable or very unlikely to make other arrangements. When I brought up the incorrect room and what I believed to be a simple mistake during check-in, as Gabriel continued smiling dismissively at me, he told me to bring up my confirmation email and "read it", where, at the bottom in small print it says: *The hotel reserves the right to reassign a selected room due to operational needs. Gabriel's manager, Oliver, continued to tell us that we should have read the small print, the hotel can give the confirmed room to whoever they want, the people occupying the room would not be leaving until Sunday (day 3 of our visit) and only then could we get into our confirmed room. We were not even offered an apology until we had spent over 45 minutes trying to reason with them how wrong their actions were. What made this experience truly upsetting is that we have been loyal guests returning multiple times with family and friends because we believed this property not only had the values as stated on their website, but also valued its customers. Instead, we felt like our reservation—and our loyalty—meant nothing. It was disgusting and no reputable resort should treat guests this way. I strongly advise looking elsewhere. If a confirmed reservation and years of repeat business can be brushed aside so carelessly, it’s clear that guests are not the priority here, and Iberostar's only true value is squeezing as much money as possible out of each and every "guest". On a side note: We now understand why they have mosquito repellant included in each room. We highly recommend using it or only going in the pools. Their beach is beautiful, but we ended up covered in bites from the sand fleas and sand flies when we spent time there.

    Excellent experience for all ages!

Stayed one week with adult family group of 7. Our experience from start to finish was excellent! We were picked up on time at the airport and our check in process at the resort was very fast. We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean; including a few in Mexico and this was the best resort of all and definitely the cleanest with the most activities. It's a very large resort, so if you prefer a more intimate property, this may not be for you. Although the resort was nearly fully booked, it never felt crowded. Plenty of seating at the restaurants and we never waited very long for drinks at any of the bars. Food was good at the buffets and the specialty restaurants were very good. Pool and beach were amazing! We also did some scuba diving and a catamaran excursion with Dressel Divers, the on-property water sports company; which was excellent. Perhaps the most important aspect was how friendly and attentive the staff were! I could go on and on about how great our stay was. You can't go wrong with this resort and although we did not have young kids with us, the resort definitely caters to families with kids of all ages.

    November trip

I went for the ocean and the ocean was beautiful. It's a lovely beach. It was so nice to see the mangroves and walk down the mangrove paths. They do a great job with the buffet and put a giant effort into all the restaurants which are decorated beautifully. (I would say the food was pretty good at the restaurants and especially gpod at Olivetti.) The suites are really spacious. All the staff was great, and in particular we really loved Carlos and Fernanda, the concierges of bldg 62. Fabiola at the Star Cafe was amazing and I loved going there every morning for tea.
