  Don’t Bother

  Travelled to Mexico to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Selected this hotel because of the beautiful grounds, location, and relaxing hotel rooms. It was a beautiful compound and the rooms were perfect, but that’s where the compliments stop. It was suggested we make restaurant reservations before arriving, which we did. However, the restaurant we reserved was not open on the day we reserved it…huh? Tables at other locations except the buffet was minimal, if at all. Although edible, the buffet food was not that good. DO NOT SIGN-UP FOR THE BREAKFAST UPGRADE. IT’S A SCAM!! Iberostar con men try to sell you a vacation package advertising that your membership fee will generate enough points to guarantee you a week’s vacation for 2. Untrue! They used invisible ink when outlining the “deal” and refused to provide copies of the documents. When I called about my vacation, I was transferred 3 times then told there was no such thing as”deal”. DO NOT SUCCUMB! The beach was so overrun with Coati relaxing was not an option. If you took your food from the stand to the beach, you were attacked by families of Coati until you relinquish all of your food. The vendors were an unwelcome distraction and swarmed the beach area all day. And there were so many activities at the pool that relaxing there was out of the question. Not worth the headache! The staff were nice and mostly accommodating. Our concierge went out of his way to help us during an emotional incident, which was appreciated. All in all, this resort is not worth the time or expense! If you can avoid the scam pitch, underwhelming food, Coati, and watered drinks, you will have a good time.

  Some good evening shows!

  We just returned from Del Mar, our 11th time at the resort. Years ago they had excellent evening shows, but then for a few years they had very few shows (they had audience participation evenings instead). But this time, the evening shows were often very good. The "80s Live" musical performance was amazing, as was the "Happy Hollywood" musical. We were also impressed with the Circus Show. There are still some evenings with audience participation only (such as karaoke), but we were happy that some evenings had quality entertainment. For what we pay, it would be nice to have good shows every evening. The food was very good, but there is still room for improvement. The cold food should be cold (for example, the milk at breakfast was always lukewarm), and the hot food should be hot (it's hot at the A La Carte restaurants, but the food at the buffets is not kept warm enough). On the positive side, there is always a good variety of food to choose from. The reservation system for the A La Carte restaurants was new this year, and it is a problem. We can only reserve for the same day by going on the app starting at 7:00am. This was not a problem for me, as I am up early, but who wants to set an alarm to reserve a restaurant? Also, 2 restaurants are "first come-first served," which doesn't work well. If we line up 15 minutes before it opens, we can get in; otherwise, we can be told to return in an hour. This makes the evening difficult to plan, especially for families with children. I believe that this is done to encourage people to join their expensive Club, as members can make reservations in these restaurants ahead of time. The last few years they have made changes to promote the Club at the expense of regular visitors. The rooms at Del Mar are functional, but it is time for an update. However, they are kept clean by the hard working staff. I must mention Jazmin, our maid in building 20, who did an excellent job and was always smiling. The Iberostar app worked much better this year. It was usually up-to-date and accurate. I used the "Chat" feature a few times to communicate with Guest Services, and I always had very fast replies and results. It is worthwhile to download their app.

  Overall great vacation

  My husband and I just returned home from a fantastic vacation. We loved the resort and all it had to offer. Check-in was quick and staff were friendly. The wifi wouldn’t work in our building for my husband but worked fine for me which was weird but they sent a tech over to sort things out. The pool area was great and the beach was beautiful. The food was generally good and we always found something we liked. My only real complaint is at the Smokehouse. We made reservations at the lobby for 4 as we had friends joining us but when we got there, it was only for 2. We explained to the staff we had asked for 4 and they were just plain rude to us. He kept showing me where it only said 2. I explained I understand that, but I had asked for 4 people. Finally he said he would make an exception this time even though he really couldn’t accommodate 2 other people, but in future we need to make I reservations properly. I was not impressed as I didn’t make the reservation myself. I can’t control what the front staff put in after I tell them I’d like it for 4 people. We were then told to go up front and tell them they made mistake if we didn’t feel it was our fault. We had our dinner which was just ok and the entire time there were tons of empty tables. Otherwise all other staff we encountered were very kind and welcoming and we enjoyed our vacation

  Move on....there's definitely something better!

  There's zero chance this property is a 5-star resort! From a flooded room on day 1 that they wanted us to stay in with standing water and a non-functional toilet to mediocre (at best) food to many, many broken beach chairs, it wasn't a great experience at all. Service was a mixed bag - a few members of the front desk staff were extremely rude when handling our flooded room but restaurant and bar staff members were lovely. New Years Eve show was pretty good. Overall, though, it was nothing near 5-star and not something I would recommend to anyone.

  A Great Vacation At Iberostar Paraiso Waves del Mar, Mayan Riviera, Mexico! 🇲🇽

  My wife and I are just back from having spent two wonderful weeks at Iberostar Paraiso Waves del Mar, Mayan Riviera, Mexico🇲🇽 ! We had a great vacation and thoroughly enjoyed our time there swimming in the beautiful pool and getting our drinks at the members swim up bar from Santiago and Carolina, dining in a variety of specialty restaurants and getting great service from the waiters, including Adrian at the Mediterranean restaurant La Dorada, who made our dining experience that much better, having relaxing massages at the stunning Spa, and walking around the absolutely beautiful grounds that are so well maintained by the landscaping staff. Special shout out to Allan, the head concierge at the Star Prestige Lounge at Paraiso Waves del Mar, who does such a great job, as well as to all of his staff, including Scarlett, who is truly a gem! We also want to acknowledge Gabriella and Kim, who were two of our massage therapists at the Spa, and who were excellent! We will definitely be back!
