Return to Paradise in Cancun!
Fortunate to have the opportunity to return to Dreams Sands Cancun for a second time at the end of January and it was every bit as great as our last visit in 2024. We really like the size of the hotel, the location, the beach and amenities. Dreams Sands sits at the top of the hotel zone and is close to lot’s stores, restaurants and entertainment. The beach is one of the best on the strip with very little sargassum that affects many parts of the Mayan Riviera. And the water is very shallow, allowing you to walk out quite a ways and the water never gets past your chest. Food is another important consideration for us and the Dreams Sands has something for everyone. Food choices are plentiful and very good for an all-inclusive. The buffet is excellent with many ready made options and there are several stations making food to order at all meal times. There are several a-la-carte restaurants as well and we really enjoyed our dinners at the Japanese, Mexican and Steakhouse restaurants. The hotel has many events and activities scheduled throughout the days and evenings. They have a Mexican dinner and show weekly out by the pool that we attended and thought it was really nice. There are singers in the hotel lobby in the evenings and live music and singers out by the pool during the day. We were there for a Super Bowl and they had a dinner outside and showed the game on a big screen. Along with these bigger events, they also do smaller activities, like pottery painting, bracelet making, bingo, etc… lots of options to pass the time if you wish to partake. The staff at the hotel are another reason why we love this resort - everyone is always pleasant, engaging and genuine and all of them work hard to deliver a great vacation experience for all the guests. We tend to spend a lot of time at the beach and Gustavo once again took very good care of us. Mario was also very helpful when we spent time at the pool - finding us chairs and making sure we were comfortable. Alberto from Food and Beverage organized a special group dinner while we were there and everyone was very impressed by the decor and food. Lastly, need to mention Director Alejandro Peniche, who always goes above and beyond to ensure our time at his hotel is the best it can be! We hope to return again in the future!

Overall a Great Stay with a Few Fixable Issues (Chair Scam)
We recently stayed at Dreams Sands Resort and were pleasantly surprised, especially after reading some of the harsher reviews beforehand. It’s important to go in with realistic expectations—this is not a 5‑star luxury property, and if you expect 5‑star food and rooms, you’ll likely be disappointed. But if you’re looking for a smaller, easy‑to‑navigate resort with good food, warm service, and an incredible beach, it delivers. *Read Chair Scam at the End* Food & Restaurants The food was much better than some reviews claim. A few people said it was “inedible,” and that simply wasn’t our experience. • Mexican restaurant: the best on the property—every meal was delicious. • Olio (beach restaurant): our absolute favorite; we loved every single meal and ate here daily. • Preferred breakfast: consistently great. • Café: excellent coffee and really good crepes. • Overall: we always found something tasty, and the quality was far better than some reviews suggest. Rooms The rooms are clean with a great view, though fairly basic. The biggest issue was the shower—it leaked and the temperature swung from warm to scalding hot without warning. The fridge also wasn’t stocked unless we specifically asked. Pools • The Preferred pool is ice cold, which was disappointing. • The other pools are heated and much more enjoyable. • It also felt like more guests were Preferred than not, which made the “Preferred” perks feel a bit diluted. Beach The beach was the highlight of our trip—warm, shallow, and absolutely beautiful. One thing to note: the sun doesn’t hit the beach chairs until around 12:30–1:00 PM, so mornings are shaded. (February) Location The location of the resort is excellent. You’re close to restaurants, bars, malls, shops, and pharmacies—all within easy walking distance. It made everything incredibly convenient and added a lot to the overall experience. Service & Staff Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but one person truly stood out: • Alicia, the hostess, deserves a huge shout‑out. She was warm, welcoming, and consistently kind. She made a big impression on us and was our favorite staff member by far. The Chair-Reservation Scam Unfortunately, we did experience one major issue that needs to be addressed. Gustavo, the beach towel attendant, was running a clear chair‑reservation scam. He told us that reserving chairs wasn’t allowed, yet almost all the good chairs were “reserved” by 7:00 AM. We later learned he was placing “personal items” from lost and found to make it look like guests had reserved them—then charging $45 USD per chair under the table to hold them for paying guests. We personally witnessed him at 10:00 AM walking guests to “their” reserved chairs, removing the fake personal items, and then standing there waiting for them to hand him cash. When we arrived earlier than him one morning and took chairs, he was visibly upset and tried to move us—likely because he had already promised those chairs to someone else. This behavior is unacceptable, especially for Preferred guests who are already paying extra. We truly hope Dreams Sands addresses this issue. Spa & Amenities • The spa hydrotherapy was great and reasonably priced. • The Preferred lounge was a nice place to relax in the evenings. • The resort is small, which we appreciated—no long walks or confusing layouts. Final Thoughts Despite a few frustrations, especially with the beach chair situation, we were overall pleased with our stay and would recommend the resort. The food was good, the beach was amazing, and the staff—especially Alicia—made us feel welcome. Some reviews made us nervous before arriving, but our experience was much more positive than expected. If you go in with realistic expectations, you’ll likely have a great time.
