Paradise found: A review of Divi Southwinds in Barbados

Beautiful, convenient location, well maintained. I booked a week's stay through Interval International. We've been to Barbados on vacation, we've stayed a day or two prior or after a cruise, as well as day stop on cruises, so we were familiar with the terrain, so to speak. This however, was our first visit to Divi Southwinds. . Once we arrived, we checked in and our room was ready. The front desk staff were friendly and informative. Our room was on the 5th floor with a balcony overlooking the pool area. The room was spacious and clean. Our unit had a full kitchen, which we made use of for breakfast. We did go Tri-mart (a quick taxi ride away) for some staple groceries such as bread, milk, eggs and water. On the Gap there was a smaller convenient store, as well as a mini store on the premise with some random necessary items. Note: we were able to change US$ to BD$ at the front desk at a fixed rate. . The main pool area was large and offered a towel exchange room until 5pm. There is a secondary pool, the garden pool, off to the left. We didn't use this one but i'm guessing during busy season it's an option. The is a pool bar/restaurant. We didn't utilize this. For those traveling with kids, there is a kiddie splash pool. . The beach area is literally across the street. It may seem far when you look at a map/photos but it is not. Note: the beach area directly across the street is a bit rough, if you walk down to the left, it gets better. Of course, this may depend on the time you are there but this worked for us in April. . The hotel itself is right on St Lawrence Gap. As you walk out the back entrance, beach side, turn either left or right and BOOM!! Restaurants galore as well as local street vendors. . We took the local BD taxi into Bridgetown, what an experience! LOL. All in all it was an amazing week for us. I will be writing up on some of our experiences on the island

    Divi Southwind-Barbados

The resort was clean. The beds were comfortable. The only issue we had was our balcony sliding glass door was extremely difficult to open. Several guest said theirs was too. We had to call or talk to the front desk several times with problem unresolved. When my husband cut himself on the door and an injury report was made then the door was fixed (our last night there). Maintenance people leave a lot to be desired. You have to cross a street to get to the beach. It is a little distance to the beach. The street has all sorts of restaurants and bars. The only other thing the resort needed to do was open up the Bajan Breeze Restaurant which is next to the pool for food. When we were there it only served liquor. The guest cocktail party was a nice touch. If not for the problem with the door I would rate this resort higher.

Don’t judge a book by its cover

As a member of interval we have gone to a number of timeshare properties and this one turned out to be an amazing 3weeks Upon arrival we were treated great by front desk and got a pool view one bedroom. At first view the accommodations were not to the standards we have been used to. While very clean the rooms are very dated and small. That being said it had every thing we needed. Bed was excellent and very comfy. We made breakfast and lunch everyday and for most part went out for dinner along the gap. Pools were meticulously clean warm and lots of umbrellas for shade. It’s hot in April. The grounds are beautiful monkeys frequently eating mangos and lots of beautiful birds. The grounds are huge with a nice pathway to go down to the ocean . Ocean had turtles galore easily to view walking the beach. The gap is just great to have splitting the large property and has numerous restaurants to chose from. We just had the best time. The staff work very hard and if you needed something you got it very quickly. We will be back in two years to this resort

    Disappointed

Arrived at reservation counter and received no greeting from staff. Rooms were okay but the toilet in our room wouldn’t flush after three visits by maintenance and there was leak in bathroom with a pool of water always on the floor. No offer to change room until after i spoke with property manager.
