An enjoyable vacation with pros and cons

First of all - we love St. Croix! My husband and I recently returned from our trip (first time either of us had been to St. Croix), and we fell in love with the island. The people, scenery, wildlife, food, ambience, cost-effectiveness - very lovely. There were pros and cons to Divi Carina Bay, as with all places. Hopefully I can lay them out here and travelers can decide what is important to them. Pros: - The staff were warm, courteous, and friendly. Special shoutout to Kat (bartender), Orion (server), and Jose (activities director). I have celiac disease, and our first night there I was struggling to find dinner that I could safely eat. Kat took it upon herself, from the bar, to walk to the restaurant (which was full and not taking reservations) to ensure I got a gluten-free meal. And it was delicious! But it wouldn't have happened without her care and advocacy. - The pool was wonderful! Beautiful views of the Caribbean and the beach while in the pool, perfect temperature, well-maintained. And the pool was never crowded. - We weren't nickel-and-dimed like travelers often are at beach resorts. All-inclusive really meant all-inclusive. We could use beach chairs and umbrellas at no additional cost. We could use pool-side cabana beds at no additional cost. There were always chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas available. It was so nice to not have to cough up additional money every day for these amenities. - The food on the buffets at breakfast and dinner was great! - We enjoyed our room - it was on the first floor, and we could walk straight out to the beach. Not down a long walkway, but immediately were on the beach. - I enjoyed swimming in the ocean with just a pair of goggles. At one point an octopus ended up on my hand! Unbelievable. Just really awesome. Conch shells and washed up coral everywhere - things we don't see on our East Coast mainland beaches. Cons: - As a celiac, I did really struggle with food during the trip. None of the food on the buffet is labeled, and at times I would ask questions, and frequently the staff either didn't know if something was gluten-free or not, or several times I was told something was gluten-free, and when I asked a follow-up questions, it would be recognized that it actually wasn't. - For an all-inclusive, there weren't many food options in terms of variety either. There was one restaurant that was only open on specific nights for dinner, and was frequently full. There was a buffet area for dinner, but again - the food wasn't labeled and I found myself guessing a lot in trying to figure out what I could eat. More often than not there was not a gluten-free dessert - several cakes, etc, but none were gluten-free. - Certain positions felt understaffed. Housekeeping, for example - she made her best effort, it appeared, to get to all of the rooms, but it seemed there were too many rooms for her to complete within a day. We only had our room cleaned twice because we felt guilty about expecting daily housekeeping, even though daily housekeeping is part of the agreement when paying to stay there. - Our fridge in our room (drinks) was never restocked over the five days we were there. - During the day, the bar could also feel understaffed. On one particular day, Scott (bartender) was on his own, and was working very efficiently, but needed one or two other bartenders to help him keep up. - The photos of the beach on Trip Advisor are not consistent with what the beach actually looks like. There was a LOT of seaweed at the water's edge, and when it dries it becomes sharp if you step on it. We wore water shoes to get in and out of the ocean because of the huge buildup of it. Which is fine - it's part of the natural environment, and we appreciated that. But the photos of a perfect white beach with no seaweed are inaccurate and misleading. Overall - we enjoyed our stay, and we loved St. Croix. And we did enjoy many aspects of Divi Carina Bay!

Great potential - not great yet

Over all our stay at Divi in St Croix was really nice. Friendly polite professional helpful staff and also plenty of staff. Clean room nice property great kayaks and great pool. I would suggest a cabinet at the pool with the clean towels rather than make guest hoof it to the Activities Center. We thought it was really odd that there were no towels at the pool. The lobby is islandy and breezy and open air but when it rains a massive lake like puddle invades. They need to close in that lobby. Major slip/fall hazard. Our issue was the on site food. The food at the pool bar was fine and expected pub like food. The italian restaurant menu sounded great but was almost inedible. Wildly over cooked seafood and undercooked pasta and kitchen unable to cook a steak properly. The buffet style food downstairs at Waves was at breakfast fine but dinner was like a cross between nursing home food and really bad cafeteria food and wildly over cooked (salmon was like shoe leather) and over salted and over seasoned. Felt like there is no Chef at this property just cooks with limited culinary training. The Marketplace had good sandwiches and we got those a few nights and kept them in our room fridge for dinner to avoid Waves and the Italian restaurant.

    Divi Resort St Croix

The resort really needs some love the rooms were clean but looks like it was put together in a rush paint job poor trim work poor but I’m not here to spend time in a room except to sleep the property is being repaired the biggest complaint I have is this resort is under staffed bad I expect when I’m at the beach, pool or patio to have a server come around and ask if I need anything like a drink or food just on that alone I will probably not return if it’s not changed their is a seaweed problem on the beach they clean it up in the morning but doesn’t stay clean I don’t mind it at all food at the main restaurant was delicious but it’s only open 3 or 4 days a week the restaurant below is open everyday for Breakfast and dinner food is good bar food is also good try the Fritters In short like the staff I expected more If this resort was staffed properly I would definitely give it a better rating

    Relaxing St.Croix Vacation

We visited Divi Carina Bay in April 2024. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a welcome cocktail and a very smooth check-in process. We had a king room overlooking the ocean. The room was clean, the hot water plentiful and the air conditioning was fabulous. We had plenty of towels, coffee pods and the bed was very comfortable. We ate dinner at Tuscany three times. Each time the food was fantastic as was the service. ( Shout-out to Jordan) We ate breakfast at the buffet each morning which had multiple options and again attentive staff. There's also a coffee shop where you can get specialty coffees, pastries and a morning cocktail if you so choose. The rest of the time we ate at the pool bar. They have an extensive menu and the food is wonderful. The pool and hot tub are very nice and we never had problems finding a lounge chair or an umbrella. The ocean water was warm and we really didn't have a problem with seaweed. The staff said it had been much lighter this year. We played pool bingo and trivia which was fun. We enjoyed the karaoke by the bar. Make sure you see the fire dancers and the stilt walkers. Those shows were super fun. I will say that they were always working on the resort and it looks like they are making improvements constantly. I would love to see them get another sit down dinner option. I look forward to revisiting this resort in a few years. I know some people complain that this resort is not close to anything, but we never had an issue getting a taxi. The front desk arranged everything for us.

An Experience that made memories for a lifetime

I want to start off by saying we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Any issues we had were resolved the minute we brought it to anyone’s attention. To summarize my experience as best I can, we were greeted by friendly faces, and handed our welcome drinks. The staff, guests, and environment was what you pray you get to experience. It’s the type of thing that you have so much to say, but can’t find the right words to explain it. After getting our wristbands (do be careful they tighten EASY), we made our way to the newly renovated beachfront room. The rooms were clean, updated, modern, extremely comfortable, and just steps away from the sand. The only downside would be that there’s no microwave!! The water pressure was low, but only because a prior storm caused some damage and they were swiftly trying to resolve that issue. The water did take some time to get hot, but honestly if you start the shower first, by the time you get everything situated, the waters ready. To me it’s worth dealing with. I’ve stayed many places, and have NEVER experienced the FAMILY atmosphere. Everyone made you feel so comfortable, and welcomed. After getting there and feeling everything out, we really wanted to experience all the restaurants, and on site experiences. Make sure you get the weekly itinerary for activities, and ask for specific dates and times for the restaurants. TIP: ask the people working in the specific restaurants you want. The schedules fluctuate and might just be open! With that being said, we were worried we would go hungry once all the restaurants closed, but the staff hooked us up. Ask for food and drinks to take to your room and you’re GOLDEN! The buffet is best when you get there when it first starts, and the Italian restaurant I was a little bummed, but went to the bar to get food to make up for it. They have snacks and water in the lobby, as well as a game room with 3 tvs and 2 computers! The on site excursions were also amazing Farrah and the gentleman who worked with her were SOOO accommodating, and made our trip! Honestly every employee we saw, talked to, or witnessed help others were amazing, I truly would have to name every single employee. A round of applause for Raul the manager because himself and his team are extraordinary, and you can tell it’s a healthy environment. The entertainment was awesome! We made candles that smell AMAZING, and the woman who ran the class was a sweetheart. The dj Hernando, was very inviting, involved, and accommodating. I could keep going because we seriously enjoyed ourselves. I have never experienced a place that actually cares about the guests. I can’t wait to go back, definitely for longer, and hopefully soon.
