My wife and I had been renting villas in St. Martin for the past 10 years which meant renting a car and doing a lot of our own cooking; and truly had wonderful holidays. However because of the damage from the hurricane we decided to try somewhere else.Because we aren't big eaters or drinkers we avoided all inclusives feeling that unlimited food and alcohol would be a waste; especially after a horrible experience at Sandals Antigua 10 years ago. Our recent 10 day trip to Couples Negril was a last minute decision and in retrospect we wish we had tried it years ago. In all respects our expectations were exceeded. (food, entertainment, water sports, service etc). The staff were wonderful, from the maids to the servers, bartenders, waterfront staff and so on. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Jamaica truly is the friendly island. The bus driver from the resort to the airport was a wealth of information. There are too many names to mention. A few that come to mind are Melissa, Amay, Cressida and Sangrine; but there were many more. However our vote for employee of the year is Rayon Higgins from the watersports. He taught me how to snail and snorkel. He had never ending patience and literally held my hand for 30 minutes while guiding me through the water to our snorkeling destination. The absolute highlight of the trip were the 2 5 hour private catamaran cruises we booked with Captain Max and Rayon as crew. The first day was so amazing we decided to go back for a second day (1:30-6:30). Food and beverages were included. Max was a superb Captain and Rayon was able to point out everything we passed along 7 mile beach; including watching the divers at Rick's cafe. One minor complaint: The jacuzzi near building 5 didn't work the entire trip and as I was recovering from knee surgery it would have been therapeutic. Overall we found the general staff to be friendlier than the managers. One thing that we found distressing was the fact that the resort throws out all leftover food from the various restaurants. Many of the resident of the area are living without electricity and running water; living from day to day with smiles on their faces and no complaints. Why wouldn't ownership give leftovers to staff for their families or for those living in poverty? The minimum wage is the equivalent of about $2 U.S. per hour. In summary, we highly recommend this resort and look forward to returning ASAP.
Perfect Vacation Location
Review for Couples Negril My husband, myself and two other couples returned to Couples Negril for the second time in April. We usually don’t go the same place twice, but it is perfect for us. I almost don’t want to let people know about it, so we don’t have to share. I go for the beach and entertainment. The beach is specular! The water is crystal clear, nice sandy bottom and the temperature was perfect, a little cool when you first get in and then you don’t want to get out. The sand is soft white and is raked every day. There is lots of sun and shade on the beach. We were able to get the same place everyday and could move into the sun or shade, as we wanted. One warning there are stingrays that swim around. They are easy to see and are docile, but try not to step on one. The pool is very nice too. You can swim laps, float around or swim up to the bar for a drink. You can take nice long walks on the beach. There are some venders that pressure you to buy something, but don’t make eye contact and don’t let them give you something for free or you will be hooked. The entertainment is awesome! There is a main stage and a piano bar and often music on the beach or around the pool. There is some local talent that is excellent, Donavan. He usually plays at the piano bar, but sometimes the main stage. He is listed as local talent, don’t miss him! They have some shows on the main stage that are always worth seeing. They also have karaoke and a disco if you like that kind of thing. Sometimes musicians play for breakfast too. The resort is very clean and well kept. The grounds are beautiful with lots of little places to sit or swing on a hammock. This is not a huge resort and you can easily walk around to get to everything you want to do. There is a water activities booth with some very helpful staff. They are happy to help you with whatever activity you are interested in. There are paddleboard (go early when the water is calm), kayaks, and hobie cats that are free. They also have a boat that goes on different adventures, snorkeling, sunset cruise, and glass bottom boat tours. These are all free! Lots of people went diving. I am not sure if that is free or not. They have some other activates you can pay for like night snorkeling, as a biology teacher I would not go into the ocean at night, but if you are brave enough, I am sure there are great sights to be seen. The gym was big and had lots of nice equipment. Everyday there are activities that are posted by the gym, yoga, water aerobics and more. There is a hidden hot tub near the spa. There are three bars; main building, beach, grill area and a self serve area. You will never have to go far for a drink. The rooms are very nice, clean and well stocked. We did tip the maid and got adorable towel creatures and flowers on our bed. The bathroom has a blow dryer, soap, mouthwash, shower gel and shampoo, no conditioner. The food is excellent! There is a main buffet that has so many choices I don’t know how anyone could not find something they like. There are always lots of vegetables, fruit, fish and meats to choose from. There is a grill and Asian restaurant that you can go to any night or a fancy steak house you need to make reservations at the desk in the lobby for. It was five stars, but it takes hours to go through the five courses. They have 2 seatings and you cannot get in early. Overall I would rate this resort a 4.5 star. It is not super fancy, but beautiful, comfortable with excellent beach, food and entertainment. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. There is a return club worth joining if you go again.
We went to Couples Negril 6 years ago and decided to go back. It did not disappoint! The rooms had been nicely updated. Excursions were about the same, we snorkeled, scuba dived, went on glass bottom boat and took a private boat trip. the breakfast buffet was always good and the jerk chicken. The dinner food was just so so. The drinks were great, most of staff was awesome, there’s always a couple that are not so friendly but no worries the good ones made up for that. The only complaint we had was the terrible sheets on the bed, they felt like sandpaper. Overall, it was a great vacation and we will probably go back some day.
Wedding and honeymoon...April 23rd-May3rd
My (now) wife and I chose Couples Negril for many reasons: the reviews were very good (other than the occasional whiner-which you have to learn to ignore) the beach was PERFECT, the size of the resort was exactly what we were looking for, etc, etc, etc. We traveled as a group of 33 people, with a nice mix of family and friends-both older and younger and were at the resort. EVERYONE loved their time on the island and the resort itself. The rooms were great (no elevators-so for people who have hard times with steps, request 1st floor) and always kept clean. We stayed in a garden view suite in building 9, with the bigger bathroom. Everyone else stayed in the basic garden rooms located in buildings 3 and 4. Everyone loved their rooms and had NO issues at all. I'm not a picky eater, my wife is a foodie and we both LOVED the food. The dinners at the formal dining restaurants was awesome...the Asian, the Italian, and the one you have to wear pants to for guys, were all really good and seemed to have a good variety as the menus changed pretty much daily. We also ate the buffet for dinner a few times, the beach party dinners too, and they were also very good. Breakfast was great each morning and lunch at the beach grill or the veggie bar is a must. I never had the lunch buffet, but I did hear that it was very good too. There were a ton of activities: catamaran, glass bottom boats, snorkeling, night snorkeling, scuba, etc. I also won the 3-point contest on back-to-back Thursdays, no big deal. They have casino nights, piano sing-a-longs, beach volleyball, trivia, cooking classes, etc. You do not have to participate in activities, or you can do as many as you'd like-no pressure mon. I personally did the basketball and that was it. Some of our group played pool volleyball, some played trivia, some did casino night.... everyone had a good time with each. The staff was fantastic....once you get in the groove of "island time" and not worrying about what you normally worry about back home, you will love the vibe-no worries. The event folks were great, the bar staff was always willing to get drinks, the front desk helped whenever we needed anything, the activities people were fantastic...my man Destin helped me with 33 boat slips which he really didn't have to do. We also went and played golf at negril hills twice. The golf course is hard, the caddies were a MUST and for good reason. They shuttle you to and from for no added cost. A few shoutouts...FIRST AND FOREMOST-Felicia- She was our wedding coordinator and she absolutely CRUSHED it. My fiance (at the time) was freaking out hardcore about the wedding, reception and small details. We brought down a lot of the smaller things with us:charging plates, flowers for dinner tables, wedding programs, candles, vases, etc etc etc. We met with Felicia our first morning in Jamaica and ran through the details of center pieces, songs, dances, cake cutting, and all the other details of a wedding and she nailed them all. I can tell her how hard she works and you can also tell how much she really cares...she actually met us at the bus to say bye to us when we left, which she didn't have to do at all. Felicia, you are awesome and we can't tell you how much we appreciate the job you did!! The reception was set up by a formal event planner, I do not know his name, but he was great as well. Destin also helped with a few of the wedding details as well. The DJ that was hired for the reception, did a great job of keeping the party upbeat and happy. Tavoya-Ashley loved you and your energy. Thanks for always taking time to stop and talk with us when you passed by. Kashees-my favorite night time bartender....the daytime bartenders at that time were a few ladies, who's names i don't have at the moment, but they were always great too. We will definitely be back, actually planning our return trip next March/April. If you have any questions about the wedding/reception/resort/etc, feel free to reach out. THANKS AGAIN for the best 11 days and for really exceeding our expectations with the wedding!!!
Traveled May 11th-17th 2019
We haven't been to Jamaica since May 2009. We thoroughly enjoyed Couples Negril. The beach was absolutely amazing!! The water was so calm all the time. We only made it to the pool once during our trip because the ocean was so beautiful and relaxing. The people at this resort were so welcoming. The food was AWESOME!! We did not find anything that we didn't like. Although we like to travel to different places, we will definitely have to come back to Couples Negril soon!
