JUST A GREAT RELAXING VACATION
We stayed at this resort the first week of March 2025. We have been to the DR several times in the last several years and have always gone to Punta Cana, we wanted to see the Caribbean side this time and are so glad we did ! This resort is part of a 2 resort property, the Royal side is adult only and then there is the larger Family side. When staying in the adult side you have access to all of the amenities of both resorts. The Royal is a smaller resort but still has all you need, a nice little main pool section with a pool bar and then a smaller separate pool area if you want a really quiet area :-). The beach and ocean here are what really stands out, so much nicer than Punta Cana ( as mentioned in other reviews the shade loungers get booked up very early, pretty much done by 7:30 am). The rooms were spacious and nicely done although the bed was a little hard compared to what I am used too. The house keeping was excellent and done every day. The restaurants were a la carte but the family side had your regular large buffet with lots of choice. The food here was pretty good and we never went hungry, there were lots of restaurants to chose from with a couple right by the beach that were open for lunch. I did hear some complaints but really, you have to remember where you are and don't expect the same quality as at home ! The staff here are absolutely awesome, Mariolis from the pool bar made great drinks and always had a smile on her face, Laury (not sure of spelling) at the front door arranged a great trip into Santa Domingo for us and just too many others to mention made this an exceptionally pleasant vacation for us. I would highly recommend you give this resort a try, we will certainly be back !

Heerlijke vakantie
Wonderfull vacation in this nice hotel. Clean, safe and kind personnel. Big thanks to Chavely, Juan, Miguel, Amaury and Carlos. You made our vacation unforgetable! Thanks for taking care of us. Unfortunately I could not take the pillow. The best ever!

Very bad experience…
People and beach were very nice, but that food was horrible at every restaurant we tried, including the buffets. Also, there is a bug going around that everyone we spoke had caught it, or multiple people in their group had. My wife got it in Thursday and came down with it last night. If quality food and health is a requirement of yours, I would absolutely not come here.

Wonderful experience and location!
We have been to Punta Cana six times, all but one of those years at the Royal Catalonia. We decided to try La Romana and so happy we did! First of all, the beach is phenomenal and absolutely beautiful! The staff were fabulous, so kind, accommodating and true gems. I’d say there was more of a language barrier than the Punta Cana location, but nothing that made it difficult to communicate. It helps with your Spanish skills, or simply using a translate app works perfect. Menus are all listed in other languages as well. The food was delish for an all inclusive and Bloved was my favorite! If you go to an AI expecting a 5 star steak house meal then you need to go in with realistic expectations. The only minor issue was getting beach chairs in the shade that are also closer to the beach. You do have to get up early to reserve them and one morning, we had our stuff removed from our chair which was quite a frustration, but nothing that ruined our trip. I will say this is the first trip to an AI that it was very noticeable and disappointing in the amount of people who did not tip the workers. We come from the US so we are accustomed to a tipping culture and would never imagine not bringing money to tip the workers. However, many, far too may, did not tip which was quite disappointing to us. The staff work very hard and always have a friendly smile and go above and beyond. I feel if you are traveling to another country you should do your research into if they are a tipping culture and plan that into your trip. It made us sad to see how hard the staff worked for some of the most unappreciative guests, but the staff always treated and waited of them quickly and respectfully. We have always been happy and pleased with the Catalonia lines of resorts and this location lived up to those expectations! We are already looking forward to returning!
