I recently stayed at your hotel on March 14th due to a flight cancellation caused by the ATC outage in Central and South America. While some aspects of my stay were positive, I encountered several issues that need to be addressed. 1. Shuttle Service: One of the main reasons I chose your hotel was the advertised airport shuttle. My wife and I attempted to contact the hotel multiple times for pickup, but no one answered. After waiting without success, we had no choice but to take a taxi, which cost us approximately $50. This was frustrating and unexpected. 2. Restaurant Service: That evening, I ordered two pizzas at the hotel restaurant and was told they would take 25-30 minutes. After waiting that long, I was informed it would be another 10-15 minutes. Even after returning to my room, the food was delayed further, totaling well over an hour. Additionally, I was told I couldn’t pick up the food myself due to cameras, which I found unusual given my experience as airline crew. On a positive note, the check-in and check-out process went smoothly, and the front desk staff, bellman, and shuttle driver were all polite and professional. The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. However, the lack of responsiveness with the shuttle service and the excessive wait for food significantly impacted our experience. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves service for future guests.

I stayed at this hotel two nights while in tour with Caravan. Very comfortable bed. Lovely room. Excellent shower. Quick and efficient check in. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast and dinner buffets were average. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed 2 nights, enjoyed the pool, buffet had a good variety of food (the fresh fruit was the best!!!), and they had a pianist playing a grand piano in the lobby in the evenings. Overall comfortable stay.

The Barcelo is very good, but for the price it is not great.
The Barcelo is tucked into a large, landscaped campus off one of the main thoroughfares to the airport in San Jose. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, with comfortable beds and bedding. The bath in the Superior room was not exactly big, but got the job done. Staff are friendly and helpful. The bar is comfortable, and I can recommend the San Jose cocktail of rum, papaya and other fruit juices. It is refreshing without being too sweet. We ate at the Miyaka Japanese restaurant which was the high end eatery of the three places in the Barcelo. Alas, my carmelized tuna dish bore no relation to Japanese preparation of tuna. Dry, unsliced cubes of tuna had been overcooked on skewers and just placed on top of a Udon and vegetable concoction. No carmelizing present in this unappetizing dish. The Barcelo offers transport hourly to the airport. Definitely take a walk in the lush garden or cool off at the pool. It’s very good. It’s just not great.

Mid Feb 2025 Barcelo San Jose CR
Barcelo San Jose/Tambor: Our mid-Feb stay at Barcelo San Jose CR was excellent. Room was clean and spacious. Buffet restaurant was very good value and service staff (Davey) was 10+. Check-in/out was a breeze. Perfect place to start and end a Pura Vida tour. BTW, we also stayed at Barcelo Tambor property and rate it also 10+. Both are a great accommodations for it's value for the price.
