March break vacation
We stayed at the Barceló Colonial for March break. We expected it to be busy so we were not surprised by that aspect. The resort is nice and clean and massive. There are lots of things to do there that you do not need to leave the resort if you don’t want to. We loved the snorkeling at the beach and we were able to see many turtles. We did not love the chair war that goes on daily, and also wish there were more poolside activities for the kids. The pool was mostly over our kids heads so they only had a small shallow area to play in. They did enjoy the waterpark at the colonial but did not want to spend all day there. The worst part of the week was the a la cartes. We were supposed to be able to book 4 for our 7 night stay, yet we could only get into one at the time we wanted to go. We were offered 9:30 pm dinner seatings, which is not conducive for a family with young children. When we went to the one dinner we were able to get, the place was half empty. I’m assuming the other restaurant were similar. If you enjoy food, do not go to this resort as you will be disappointed. Buffet was decent but got boring quickly, we really would have preferred more a la carte options during our stay.

need improvement
if they would watch how many towels are taken they probably would have enough loungers but free for all towels some people save loungers at pool and beach making it impossible to find a loungers after 7:30 am not my idea of a vacation getting up every day at 6 am to save a chair haven't had to do this at any other resort will not return unfortunately way too busy for us

DPF - Mexico 2025
This is our 10th time at this resort and love it. We were there 2/25/25-3/4/25 and had a fantastic time. The weather was perfect, meals were good and staff was very courteous. Our experience was a 10/10!

March 2025 Family Vacation
First of all, we LOVE Barcelo and my husband and I consider this resort our "happy place. This being our fourth time here, and with me watching YouTube videos galore, especially from "Firsthand Globetrotter", I thoughtfully booked the Tropical as our choice of hotels at the resort, mainly due to close proximity of the yard games and fun pool activity/vibes suggested by reviewers. We made our reservations back in November 2024. My daughter and her family also booked at the Tropical. Imagine our surprise and disappointment when my daughter's family got changed to Caribe and we got changed to Colonial. Our room at the Colonial was very nice and we had no issues with it, but as we are a couple in our 60's we really didn't want to be in the family/little kids portion of the resort. Additionally, to be fair to our daughter and her family, we spent half the week traipsing to their resort for meals. Although not a deal breaker, this was very disappointing for us. Our hips aren't getting any younger ;) The next time we book, I will make sure that my request for the Tropical gets heard. The only other thing is *SIGH* the beach chairs. The first three times we came we never encountered such a demand for the chairs that we couldn't even go to the pool or beach after breakfast and hope to find empty chairs. SO FRUSTRATING! After two mornings of this, my husband and I begrudgingly set our alarm for 5:30 am to put towels on some chairs for our family. Shockingly, we were lucky to find some. The dark beach was crawling with people and flashlights, who had gotten there earlier than us! Not fair! We don't go on vacation to get up at the crack of dawn or earlier to have to reserve chairs. Most frustrating is the number of chairs that have towels on them but with flattened down backs who are still untouched by late morning. We brought this up to the Premium rep, who told us we could move towels off of chairs after awhile. We didn't because we had no desire to potentially argue with other vacationers. Surely there is something you can do about this. Other than these two frustrations, our vacation was wonderful, as always. We opted for the hydro water therapy and massages this year, which was a real treat. My masseuse Alicia was amazing. We also decided to try parasailing one day and loved it. So much to do here! Our grandchildren swam with the dolphins, and we had professional family pictures taken at the resort. Several things went undone simply because we ran out of time or it was too windy somedays to get more water activities in. One last thing: over the years we've gone to several of your evening shows. After awhile, it's like "been there, done that." Please consider an alternative late night activity that we experienced in the Dominican and loved. They had an outdoor bar area with a small two to three piece band where we could listen and dance to their music. It was special and romantic. Over all, we love the resort. Thank you for trading my review.
