Sisters' Getaway
This was a quick getaway for two sisters. The expansive grounds and beautiful calm beach were lovely. It's a bit far from town (40 min to Playa del Carmen) but the availability of activities on the grounds meant we were never bored: multiple pools with games/activities, spa, gym, surf pool, basketball courts, disco, bowling, arcade, casino, several live theatre shows, shopping and more!

Nov 06, 2025Nice Beach but the resort needs some improvements.
Great location with amazing beaches and facilities. The problem is that food quality and service need to step it up. We found the food was not great, and what was there was often cold, even if you went to the buffet as soon as it opened. I also find that tipping or not made no difference in the attentiveness of the staff. I always start my resort time tipping big and expecting good service but by the end of the trip tipping didn't make a difference. Attentiveness and friendly service was lacking.

Flowrider is so much fun!
Our family and I bought a week pass at Pirates Island and had a fantastic time. We rode the Flowrider everyday. Kevin was especially helpful along with the other folks who were working throughout the week. Would love to return next year!

Awesome experience
I had such a great time at Barceló Maya Tropical! The poolside activities were one of the highlights of my trip Estefania brought so much energy and made sure everyone was having a great time. She really made the experience that much better! Would definitely return again.
