  Stay at Bahia Akumal

  Resort Access & Grounds The property is beautiful, and when you stay at Bahia Akumal, you also get access to all the other Bahia resorts and their à la carte restaurants. Convenient little carts run throughout the complex, making it easy to get around. Rooms They offer great room options for families, as well as one building dedicated to adults. We stayed in a swim-up room, which was amazing. The room has a balcony with direct access to a shared swim-up pool. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, and very relaxing. The minibar is well stocked and can be refilled daily. Pools & Beach The resort has a large main pool and an adults-only pool. The beach is beautiful, with an adults-only section as well, which adds a nice option for quieter relaxation. Sports Bar & Arcade The sports bar is great—fun drinks, lots of TVs, and different sports always playing. Right next door, there’s an excellent arcade ($$) for both adults and teens. Activities The hotel offers great activities throughout the day and evening. Don’t miss the silent disco—it was a blast!

  Foreigners Beware: Opposite of Luxury, Poor Service, Deceptive Advertising.

  To all foreigners, especially Americans, I would read this. The accommodations and service are at best comparable to a "Motel 6" in the USA. After having stayed here for 1 week with a group of 14 people, I can say that this resort let us down. What was supposed to be a weeklong "Luxury" stay to relax turned into a stressful situation while dealing with a resort that had almost no intention of accommodating and making our stay memorable. I felt like the staff at this resort is not trained to be accommodating but rather get away with doing the least amount of work possible and telling you "NO" at every turn. The bad experience started 2 weeks before check-in. We logged into the APP the minute registration opened in order to book restaurants. Keep in mind, we paid extra to be at the "Luxury" resort in order to get dinner reservations every night. After logging on as early as possible, we were met with restaurant calendars that were completely full. They had a couple openings for 2 people; however, nothing for a group like ours or even a group of 4-6 people so we could split up. We immediately contacted the resort (corporate and the resort itself) and were blown off, told that there is no solution other than to email or show up to the resort in person. After emailing, we received generic responses that told us to use the APP. Clearly the APP wasn't working but as said above, the staff did absolutely nothing to accommodate us or resolve the problem. Upon arrival to the resort, it took well over an hour for check-in. They didn't have golf carts ready for our group so we had to wait additional time on top of that. We asked to discuss our restaurant reservations with them and their "Concierge" staff essentially told us that we don't get any dinners since they are booked up. After having a 20+ minute discussion, begging, showing our emails and efforts to resolve this before arriving, she finally let us make an appointment with the General Manager. They stuck us in the arm pit of the resort right next to the budget resort, Coba. Having a pregnant women in our group and several kids, this was extremely cumbersome. We expressed our desire to be somewhere more centric as requested 4 months in advance and we were again told "NO". Not to mention the rooms are old, dirty, and not remotely "Luxury". Having a 1 year old that drinks milk, we noticed that the mini bar had only 1 pint of milk. It was about 8 PM so I called room service to request more milk for my child. The impolite staff member told me to look in the minibar and I told him I would need 6 pints per day as that is what my child drinks. The rude staff member then told me "NO" again! For MILK! Let me make that clear, their immediate response to a request for more MILK was "NO"! This is when I had enough. How can you deny a guest MILK for their toddler at a "Luxury" resort. I was embarrassed for them at this point. After a heated discussion on the phone they finally brought more milk 2 hours later. This is not LUXURY! I had to continually request more milk throughout the whole week as they were apprehensive in providing it. At the end of the day, the general manager helped us get dinner reservations for 3 days of our vacation. This was after hours of discussions and he made it seem like he was doing us a huge favor. We specifically requested to eat at the Mexican restaurant for a birthday we were celebrating which was not accommodated whatsoever. This is the definition of terrible service and frankly a scam when you pay for a "Luxury" experience and then the staff gaslights you and tell you their hands are tied and they are going above and beyond for you. My recommendation, don't support the Bahia Principe brand. This level of bad service, deception, gaslighting, and disrespect from staff does not start at a resort level but is top down from the highest ranks of the corporation. I have stayed at Secrets and Iberostar and the level of service is completely different. Support a brand that focuses on customer satisfaction, organization, luxury experiences, not one like this that makes your stay hectic, unorganized, confusing, contentious and overall a poor experience.

  Kids area - waterpark

  The kids area at the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum hotel in Riviera Maya certainly won’t disappoint families traveling with younger children. The resort offers a thoughtfully designed kids-pool and shallow children-friendly sections, complete with gentle ledges around the pool where small children can safely sit, splash, or ease themselves into the water. This design makes the space feel especially manageable for toddlers and early-school-age kids. One highlight is the water park oasis, which provides just enough water fun without feeling overwhelming or unsafe. These smaller slides and sprinklers offer entertainment for little ones while keeping parents at ease. The children-oriented zone, featuring soft water features and a tranquil atmosphere, is perfect for supervised play. Parents will appreciate the plentiful loungers, seating, and shaded areas surrounding the pools. These shaded spots are ideal for keeping young kids out of direct sunlight and for taking breaks to enjoy quick snacks or drinks. The kids-pool area is also conveniently close to snack bars and restaurant-style amenities, making it easy to grab food without a long walk. Overall, the pool setup is relaxed, safe, and family-friendly, offering a calm all-inclusive experience perfect for families with younger children. However, travelers seeking large slides, big splash parks may find it a bit modest. If you’re looking for a resort in Riviera Maya that strikes a comfortable balance between fun and relaxation, the kids-pool and overall pool area at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum is an excellent choice — enjoyable, easygoing, and ideal for younger families.

  Still looking back in anger.

  This hotel was so bad that I still look back in anger over our stay there. Our room was incredibly warm and humid at all times, so our clothes never fully dried and were always wrinkled. Our view was of a cement retaining wall at the rear of the building, which was ugly but at least private. The towel inventory was managed with plastic cards, which we had to present at the end of our stay so they didn't charge us money for the towels. There were no activities for adults, no watersports offered, and being more than an hour's taxi from Cancun, there is no where to go. All I could do all week is walk around the property. Drinks were never made the same way twice, so we always had a fun surprise at the end of a long wait. We missed one of our a la carte reservations, so the hotel passive-aggressviely cancelled all our subsequent reservations, too. We prepared all of our own meals at the buffet. Entertainment? Grab a microphone and do that yourself, too. After reading other reviews, better options are available. In fact, literally any other option would be better. I will never set foot on a Bahia property again in my life.

  Relaxing Vacation at Beautiful All Inclusive

  Spent 5 nights in November 2025 at the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal. We had access to the other 3 locations, which you could reach by trams that ran constantly. The resort was clean, the staff was friendly, and the onsite activities were many. The location is simply beautiful. You MUST book your a la carte restaurants 10 days in advance. We did, and got reservations for every night of our stay. Would definitely stay here again.
