Jan 23, 2026If you have lower expectations, then maybe this resort is OK at best!
My wife and I have been coming to this resort every year since 2004. Every year it has continued to improve. We just got back this year, and I have never been so disappointed. I was in contact with the resort two weeks prior to my arrival to make sure that we would have the VIP bracelets and hopefully the same room as last year facing the pool. When we got there, they had us staying in a room overlooking the neighbouring resorts truck delivery entrance. I told the person that was taking us to the room that I wasn’t going to take this room. I asked him to take us back to the front desk. They then said they didn’t have any rooms facing the pool. They ended up giving us a room as far away from the pool as possible saying that’s all they had. We had no choice. This room had a smell from the air conditioner which I called to have them change the filter. Then we had no hot water. Wasn’t working right until mid week. A few of the restaurants food was horrible. M.E.A.T was horrendous. I noticed a LOT of staff is new and untrained throughout the resort, though no fault of theirs. A lot of management has also changed and not for the better. My wife and I won’t be returning to this resort again. We have seen the demise over the years and have had enough. Time to move on. I hope you pay heed as my review as it is based on experience here and the fact that I was in this industry for over 15 yrs in Canada. After spending approximately $100,000 since our first visit, it looks like the VIP experience is going by the way side. TRULY UNFORTUNATE!

Overall, we had a great time. The food at buffet was good - lots of variety. We ate at Limbo, Maiko, Capriccio, and Nomad - all of which were very good, and Nomad was my personal favourite. The app was not easy to use, and I would highly recommend that visitors book as far in advance as possible for a la carte restaurants, and also keep refreshing, as availability changes. And screen shot your reservations - twice, ours didn't stick and we had issues getting in, although staff did accommodate us. The rooms are dated - they have not changed in 15 years. And the beds are HARD. If you are over 25-30 years old, be prepared to feel stiff and sore when you get up in the morning. The staff we encountered everywhere were fantastic - smiling, happy and always willing to help out with any request. The shows we saw were top tier - Circus and Fire Show were our favourites, and the Silent Disco was so much fun! The trolley system is easy, convenient and needed at times. I would recommend adding somewhere for people to eat breakfast at the beach - the only place we saw was exclusive to Ambar and Grand, I think. It would have been nice to have something closer to the beach for the other groups.

Needs serious makeover
Beautiful grounds. Beach is beautiful. We had a lot of mold in the room. Inconsistent replenishing with towels and water. Trolly service was always available. Booking à la cartes was a nightmare. Wine was terrible. Few service providers were happy and attentive - only a few that made us feel welcome and did really well at ensuring we were taken care of.

Excellent resort!!!!!
We stay in Bahia Principe Ambar for 2 years in the row. The 1st time was very good, but last year in 2025 was not good experience. Food was very bad in main buffet, service is very bad. This year we decide to stay in Bahia Principe Aquamarine, and we not regretted. Excellent service. The rooms is outdated, but very clean. The cleaning ladies came every morning. Food in restaurants and buffet is very delicious. Drinks is above and beyond. Every day night shows and all day along excellent activities. Good job team entertainment!!!! I would like to say about waitress Karena in buffet, she does excellent job. She always smile and very polite, she make us happy every day and we feel like a one big family with all staff. However, there are a few minor issues: only 2 bath towels in the bathroom for a day, no bathrobes, and there is no drying rack for swimsuits on the balcony. Otherwise the resort is excellent
