We stayed in the preferred rooms and had a fantastic experience! David was our bartender on the 21st floor and he always greeted us with a great smile and from memory knew exactly what we wanted to drink. Early in the stay I requested "something different." David asked what I liked and created a drink according to my tastes. He then made the same drink for me whenever I wanted. We met some great people, had a great time and have already booked our next visit together with the same group. We loved this place! More>

The Realist : Named The Vine for a Reason

Before my husband and I booked here, I read a lot of reviews just like you are right now. I wondered how many of the reviews were written by individuals that have been to other all inclusive resorts of similar stars. Just to give you an idea, we have been to 4 different all inclusive resorts. I rated The Vine a 4 because of the value and we think it has potential. So let's begin..... Pros: 1. The Resort. With many other all inclusive resorts, everything is spread out across the property. We actually enjoyed having everything close by within the resort. We had afternoon showers and we were able to access the restaurants without getting wet unlike other all inclusive resorts we have been to. Room accessibility is great too. Also, the decor was beautiful! Probably my favorite interior out of all of the all inclusive resorts. 2. The staff is very respectful and kind. 3. The Beach is Gorgeous!!!!! We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres a few years back and the resort was on point, but the beach wasn't near as beautiful as the beach here. (warning the waves are strong) 4. The preferred area by the pool!!! Btw, this is the only way you have access to the "infinity pool" you see in the pictures on the 12th floor. We purchased the run of the house preferred room. Definitely recommend doing this. I felt like a queen up there by the pool. I wished I remembered her name, but she was so sweet. She would lay out a towel over the chair, and then use another towel for a pillow, and move the umbrella however you would like. Also, the servers come by more often and they have premium liquor there. (See below more comments of the preferred) 5. Coffee Cafe' "The Vine Bazaar" : I'm a huge coffee fan. This was amazing having access to snacks and coffee 24/7 in the main lobby. The coffee was really good. Many other all inclusive resorts don't have 24/7 access to coffee so I definitely consider it a plus. 6. The gym!! The view is gorgeous!!!! The best gym we have been to at an all inclusive resort. 7. Deep Tissue massage by Guadalupe! She did an amazing job. 8. Wifi was good=)) No extra charge. Cons: 1. Named the Vine for a Reason: Upsell! Upsell! Upsell! My husband and I were given coupons for wine when we arrived. We like wine, but we don't Love wine. Therefore we never purchased any despite having coupons. Warning to the wise: If you don't purchase any wine you may feel outcasted despite purchasing the preferred room. My husband and I have never experienced this in our life at an all inclusive resort to this degree. Yes other resorts offer you wines that are not included in the all inclusive, but this was pretty intense. My husband is in sales so we completely understand. You have bills to pay, job description, etc, but in comparison this was a bit much. Examples: 1. Workers come out to the pool and beaches asking if you want to see a menu of the restaurants at night. One time it was mentioned to us that there are ways to get a reservations if you purchase a bottle of wine. 2. There is special tables if you purchase a bottle of wine. One night they had a Mexican show. If you Do Not buy a bottle of wine you go straight to the back of the restaurant where you cannot see the show and there is not any Mexican decorations. You can stand or possibly get a seat at the bar to watch the show. 3. We went to the Italian restaurant on our last night. After my husband and I were seated, a large party was sat at one of the special wine tables right behind us. Our server couldn't even focus on us when we were telling him our order because he was listening to his manager discuss and show the whole party the bottle of wine options. I feel bad for even saying this, because the server was very nice, but honestly this is what happened. He ran straight over to discuss the wines with that table and pour wines. After a good 15 minutes my husband went to ask if someone else could bring us bread. We just didn't feel valued as we have felt at other all inclusive resorts. 2. Seating on the beach: This beach lacks proper amount of umbrellas and cabanas. We had to wait for an umbrella almost every time. I was jealous of the Sandos place next door because they looked like they had tons of cabanas. 3. Wasn't provided champagne during our very expensive spa experience. Saw someone with champagne so it must be an upcharge. We are used to being provided a glass at other all inclusive resorts. This is not a big deal to us, just recommending to the resort small touches that could really improve the experience for their guests. FYI $225 per person for a 80 minute massage. 4. Check in is for real 3PM!!! Okay so I'm not going to be this entitled person who demands something that isn't part of the deal. It says 3pm check in. All I'm saying is that it would have been an extremely appreciated nice touch if they made guests feel a little more special. We arrived at the resort by 10am and having only 2 hours of sleep, I was pretty exhausted. Check out is at 11am and I highly doubt they were booked. We kept checking and checking. 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 2:30pm and happened to be ready at 3pm. I was discussing this with another guest and they said the same thing happened to them. I haven't experienced this anywhere else. I just felt there wasn't any sense of urgency in trying to make guests feel special with this. FYI: The preferred room gets you pool access to the 12th floor which is great, small premium liquor bottles in mini refrigerator, M&M's and small pack of pringles, food on 21st floor which isn't open all the time (food is okay, better than nothing), and bigger room. In comparison to our favorite all inclusive so far which is Excellence Playa Mujeres: At Excellence the food is better and so many dinner options we didn't get to try all of them, all rooms had full bottles of premium liquor and great snacks(not just for preferred and not just M &M's and pringles), No big upsetting of wines, and beach has better seating, but water not as beautiful as here. Butttt that resort was $1000 more than we paid for Secrets The Vine for the same week. Overall, I would say Secrets The Vine is a great bang for your buck and will be a fantastic memory if you haven't been to another all inclusive resort that is better to compare it to. We still had a Great Time! Beautiful resort! Beautiful Waters! Food is pretty good. Service is good. If you want better service buy a bottle of wine. More>

Absolutely exceeded our expectations in every way!! The customer service was above and beyond, we truly felt as though every employee genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay. We were in the preferred area junior suite and the room was impressive. It was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Loved the shower! The food was incredible, amazing flavor and quality. It was obvious that time and effort went into the menu/food preparation. Market Cafe and Dragons were our favorites! The pools and beach area were not over crowded, very pleasent environment to soak up the sun!! Wait staff were extremely attentive, always there with a drink refill and extra towel if needed. Entertainment staff also did an awesome job, really enjoyed the pool games. I am completely spoiled now and very much looking forward to our next trip to Secrets The Vine!! More>
