I was fortunate enough to spend 5 days at Secrets the Vine. At first we got off to a rocky start but the staff went out of their way to make my stay perfect! I traveled solo so I can't comment on the various restaurants that are offered to the guests. You didn't need reservations but from I hear the earlier the better.I ate room service and the food served was very good. Being a preferred guest, I was treated like a Queen. They have a preferred lounge that had been loaded with many goodies such as breakfast and hor d'oeurvres. There was also a full bar and many butlers to help you. I particularly loved Rene. The preferred room came with a special pool that was on the 12th floor. It was a bit crowded but the water was nice as well as the quietness. The people I met were very friendly, especially the girls at the bar and Diego the bartender. I felt very comfortable there and Mus me made sure my stay would be wonderful. We have communicated through emails and she made sure my requests were met. I didn't meet one employee who wasn't friendly. I suggest you reserve a room on the Sandos side, it's more serene. I hated to say goo-bye but know I will be back in January! More>

Great Place for Couples (August 11th-18th 2015)

My husband and I decided on this resort after much research. We stayed at The Vine for seven nights. Overall we were quite satisfied with our choice. Pros: -Food: It was absolutely amazing ( with exception to the room service, not good at all and takes more than 45 minutes. Buffet was decent, only went to buffet for breakfast. As a preferred member (will go in to detail about that more later) you have access to the 12th floor pool and restaurant for lunch AMAZING shrimp and seafood! Steak house was pretty decent but the meat was OK, in exception for the rack of lamb great!!! Hands down best restaurant was Ollio's for lunch as stated above must pay for the preferred member, and Dragon ( One of the best Asian restaurants I have ever eaten at) -Service: With the exception of a few issues we had (will list that in the Con's ) Service was great again I emphasize do get the preferred member added to your stay. Pool side service at the main pools is quit mediocre (and its much more loud and obnoxious) compared to service on the 12th floor pool. Plus, it's more relaxed and calm upstairs. You should definitely bring some U.S dollars to tip with. The employees work quite hard and deserve a tip not to mention the service is even better if you take care of them. But, don't tip too much, becomes a sort of battle as to who will be servicing you. We tipped our servers at restaurants 3-5 $USD for each meal of course for example (lunch 3 bucks, dinner 5), pool side 3-5$ per day, breakfast buffet which no one seemed to tip we might leave a buck or two, and butlers a total of 15-20$USD for the whole stay. Of course at the piano bar we also tipped the bartenders a couple of bucks a round. You will get faster service if you tip. -Amenities Hotel was beautiful, clean and very modern. 12th floor pool as I said is a best bet that is only included if you purchase the preferred member definitely worth it. Be sure to also tip the Pool butler, if you take care of them they'll make sure to hold you a spot. Beach was breathtaking in exception for the seaweed. Just depends on the weather and time of year, but they do try their best to clean it up. View was absolutely breathtaking. We had a Junior suit on the 27th floor. Tip: (email the concierge, we were on a belated honeymoon and we asked for a good ocean view room on a high floor. They accommodated us quite well as the highest floor was the 28th and we were on the 27th). There is a nice gym and spa, we didn't take advantage of. However, as a preferred member you get one free trip to the spa. I have to take the time out to give credit where credit is due. Our servers, and butlers, and service staff were amazing. They were so amazing I can give you names. They were so sweet, kind, helpful, and went above and beyond. They made our stay much more pleasurable. I want to say thank you to: Oliver, Brenda, Itzel (servers at the 12th floor private pool). Danny Cruz (12th floor pool butler). Christian( our personal butler on 27th floor). Piero and Antonio (downstairs main pool bartenders). Rasando Upstairs Ollio Bar). Jorge (Ollio's waiter), and Raul and Marcelo (servers at the market café and Blu water restaurant). Cons: Private bookings: IE wedding receptions etc. One thing I was not happy about is during the weekends they book (FAR IN ADVANCE MIND YOU) private events. Now, the preferred member as I have said before gives you private access to the 12th floor pool and restaurant for lunch among other things. So, I was quite bothered on Friday when around 4:00 pm they started picking up chaises and umbrellas in the private pool area getting ready for an event. It was in very poor taste and it made the guests feel unwelcomed. We paid an extra price for the added amenities, and should be treated as such. As a preferred member you get a private check in where you butler takes you through everything in great detail. Now, we all know no one plans a wedding a week ahead. Therefore, the resort knows of these events well ahead and as a courtesy to the patrons paying the additional fee for the preferred member, we should be informed at check in that there are going to be private events in which staff will be clearing out the pool for. They actual refused entry at 4:30 to preferred members that day even though pool is opened until sundown. That is just bad business, we paid for this extra and deserve to use it. And if there is a private event then as a courtesy inform your guests. It's called respect. - We had a two unpleasant issues which I don't wish to get into to great detail about, but I will say main concierge down stairs is not helpful and a young lady refused to give us the manager and tried to pretend that she was a manager. We spent an hour of our time arguing and filling out paperwork because our maid accidentally threw out our cigars. We had to escort security upstairs to rummage through our personal belongings as if we were smuggling kilos of coke. And fill out paper work, all in all very unnecessary for 30 bucks worth of cigars. But, in the end the manager did send our butler out to purchase the two cigars accidentally disposed of the following day. Another issue we had, was at the Italian restaurant. The resort has a standard dress code for all restaurants, which on this day the hostess was afraid to impose on a group of young black girls. let's just say they were dressed very inappropriately and the manager was afraid they would play the "race" card. I spoke with he restaurant manager and that was his response in so many words, I also spoke with the night manager Gustavo regarding this. So, instead of imposing the dress code which mind you was imposed on my husband during breakfast at the buffet. They allowed these girls to come in wearing underwear. Which I thought was in very bad taste, as did the other patrons because as soon as they walked in the room everyone stared. Because, everyone else was dressed appropriately. -All the bars close at 11 except the piano bar. They have an amazing bar on the terrace management should look into leaving this bar open until 2 am as well. -Hotel does not have any nightlife in exception for Piano bar (which sometime has a foul smell sewage). - A butler we didn't know on the 12th floor covering another butler shift told us he would remove our stuff if we were gone for more than 45 minutes. (I thought this was in bad taste). -Wifi is bad! Tips: -Book through a third party otherwise you will pay through the nose we got a great deal for 7 nights plus airfair on expedia ($3,500 and some change). -the $100 bucks extra per day for preferred member is WORTH IT! -Bring cash and enough, we ran out and had to use the ATM like 40 bucks worth of fees for $200 withdrawal. -Go on the Jungle tour amazing (outside resort, they will approach you one the beach or you can book through downstairs concierge) -La Casa de Havana, best cigars and Mojitos, and Margaritas ever see the Mojito Man (outside resort about 10 minutes) -Email concierge prior to stay for requests -Tip your servers, and butlers maids etc. -wear sunscreen sun is CRAZY strong - They have Kettle one, belvedere, don Julio and other top shelf liquors but if you don't ask you don't get. (They are not visible) - As a preferred member if you ask for early check in and late check out they will accommodate you. -They will try to sell you bottles of wine and alcohol as well as special beach front or pool side dinners (was a little annoying but it's how they make an extra profit) -Portions are small, but don't waste order only what you will eat. :) All in all we were quite happy and would consider staying again... Recently I went with my boy friends to this Hotel to celebrate my bachelor's party. I was very surprised about the excellent service, food and drinks they served. One thing I will always remeber was the warm and friendly service of Alberto (Beto) and Silvia at the pool, they really rock!! I outmost recommend this Hotel. More>

Luxurious and Romantic Getaway at Secrets the Vine
Allie B, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
Mon Sep 07 16:13:20 EDT 2015
My fiancé Scott and I travelled to Secrets the Vine during the week of August 22 – 29. We stayed in the Preferred Club Junior Suite with an ocean view. The room was immaculately clean, bright and beautifully furnished. There was a fair-sized television in the room which we loved to turn on for a movie before bed. The minibar was well-stocked and refilled every day. We were in room 2109 and were able to enjoy a nice view of both the ocean and the lagoon. We could certainly hear people outside and in the hallways at night, but it was hardly a bother. Our housekeeping staff were unbelievable. They cleaned twice a day and turned down the bed at night. When we returned from dinner each night, we loved that the staff would put our slippers beside the bed, cold bottles of water on the nightstand and itinerary for the next day on our pillow. They could not have done any more to make the suite feel like home for a week – thank you so much. Entertainment was at the exact level that we enjoy – moderate and not highly participatory. We did wine tastings with the sommelier, tequila tasting, made fresh paella with one of the resort chefs and enjoyed the Mexican dancers and acrobats brought in during the evenings. Food and drink were absolutely above average. We tried every single restaurant and still can’t seem to pick a favorite – they were all so different and delicious. The chicken satay and yellow curry from Dragons, the gnocchi from Nebollio, the fillet mignon at Bluewater Grill and the ceviche at Sea Salt Grill were among our favorite dishes. We were not harassed at any point to have a romantic dinner on the beach or buy a bottle of wine. They gave us a soft sell on our last night, but as soon as I started to shake my head, the waiter stopped and didn’t mention it again. That night he brought out a special dessert for Scott’s birthday. Prior to arriving, I had emailed the concierge contact at this hotel to let them know that Scott would be turning 30 during the trip. The concierge provided me with a menu of items that could be purchased to celebrate his birthday, but I politely declined. However, she must have made a note in our account because they showered us with special treats and bottles of wine nearly every day in celebration of his birthday. It was amazing – between chocolate-covered strawberries, personalized birthday cards signed by the staff and champagne, the staff went above and beyond to make this a special occasion. From the ample amenities, to the strong drinks and the well-prepared international cuisine, we would highly recommend this resort. For seven full days we did not hear one staff member utter the word ‘no’ or turn down any request from the guests at the resort. This was a very special experience at Secrets the Vine. Gracias! Had a great time! Staff was excellent, food was amazing, rooms were good. Cons: Smelly hallways and lobby area frequently No hooks in bathroom to hang anything on. Beach was pretty crowded, not enough chairs. The club at night was fun, dj tried to play what guests wanted to dance to. The Italian restaurant was very, very good.. We went there twice it was our favorite. I've been to Mexico a lot, this was a different area then I normally go to, we didn't venture off the resort, but it's close to lots of things. We booked a transfer from airport online and it was only $35 for all 3 of us! More>
