Great hotel, basic rooms, good food, great entertainment team

We had a group of 9 stay here in mid-February 2018. The hotel was nice, the rooms were okay, we were expecting a little more for our swim up suite, but they were clean and housekeeping took good care of us. I did have to track the beverage guy down a few times to get more beer! The food was good, the place by the ocean that had steaks was our favorite, the Mexican restaurant was lacking. The entertainment crew was excellent and we had a lot of fun with Tacofest, pool foam party, water exercise, the dancing girls in white and we even made some of our own games in the pool that they participated in! There were some great staff including the famous Eddie Murphy, Willy Mays, Jeans, Spaghetti, Milky Way and a cast of others I can't remember. The only downside was the wind, which obviously is out of everyone's control, however it made spending time on the beach difficult unless you wanted to get sand blasted. There were also brief downpours, however the rooms included an umbrella, which was a nice touch. Overall we had a great time and I would recommend this resort!

5 Star Resort with 2 Star food rating!

Just returned from a stay at Secrets Royal Beach Punra Cana. The overall resort was very luxurious & very clean. The grounds were absolutely GORGEOUS! The beach was excellent as were the bartenders/waiters gave us A++ service! I need to commend our friend Joel, beach drink waiter, went above & beyond & made our beach time the best part of our vacation! On the negative side, the food was very, very, poor quality. Guests that pay high prices to stay at this type of resort, expect a much higher quality of food. I hope the resort will take my advice to highly approve the food for future guests. We will probably not be returning to this resort.

Not a bad resort, but not great

There were 6 people in our group and we all agreed that there were pluses and minuses to Secrets Royal Beach. The first plus was that the layout, convenience and furnishings the studio rooms were lovely and spacious. The bathrooms were gorgeous with huge showers, lots of fluffy towels, excellent toiletries, a stocked minibar and even a robe. There was an outdoor whirlpool with each room, but no one in our group used it. The rooms seemed very clean, however my friend's room next door had a distinct mould smell and she had such a dreadful allergic reaction. All week her face and eyes were swollen red and runny and she had nights with no sleep. Another friend down the hall experienced those same symptoms, although her roommate did not. I did not either, so I guess I wasn't allergic to whatever it was. The food at Secrets was very nice with lots of variety and numerous restaurants to choose from. I wouldn't say it was gourmet quality, but very nice, and presented beautifully. Room service was available 24 hours and was included in our meal plan. That was a real plus as we arrived quite late and were able to order dinner. The beach was beautiful and you can stroll for long distances in each direction so that was definitely a plus. However the breeze was constant and sometimes very strong, so that wasn't pleasant. On days it churned up the waves, so unless a person was strong, even wading a few feet into the water was tricky - easy to be knocked over. Also there was seaweed throughout the water, which wasn't pleasant to swim in. The hotels work hard to clean it up on the beaches, but since it is in the water too, it is always present. The Atlantic always has its drawbacks. Pool. Since Secrets Royal Beach is adult only, the river portion of the pool was quiet and pleasant. There is only one pool if you are not a Preferred guest. The resort has a main pool with swim up bar and then the rest of the pool area, which is shaped like a meandering river. The pool area is the biggest drawback of the resort. The main pool with the swim-up bar is very crowded with absolutely no hope of getting a lounge chair at all. At 3:30 pm it turns into a party- foam, dancing, contests and loud music. That is ok if you are twenty-something. We are not, so we chose to lounge by the river portion. The biggest annoyance of our whole vacation was to try and find a lounger anywhere near this portion. The grounds around the meandering river are extensive, but wasted. There are only a few spots with chairs and these are highly sought after. Every morning at 7:30 sharp, two of us had to get out there with our towels and guard chairs so we would have a place to sit. We felt like it was war every morning. Ridiculous since there is so much space where lounge chairs could be placed. There are many lounge chairs on the beach, but if it is windy, that is not where we wanted to be. Also there is no bar near the meandering river, so to get a drink while sitting in these highly prized lounge chairs, you had to walk a long distance. Waiters would occasionally arrive to ask if you would like a drink, but not very often. I am sure they hated the long walk to the bar and back too. Another plus was the resort staff. They were friendly and helpful at all times. Bring lots of U.S dollars though for tips. This is a small price to pay though for their friendly help. One other annoying thing happened when we arrived and it may be Air Transat's fault and not the fault of Secrets. I made the travel arrangements on behalf of our group. 4 of our members, including me, are ladies travelling on their own. I specifically asked for rooms that were not on the ground floor. As a single traveller, I always request to have a room on the second floor or higher. Also, I had requested rooms that were closest to the dining areas, since walking is difficult for a few of our group - they are elderly. I also asked that we be located near each other. When we arrived all our rooms were on the ground floor and in the very furthest building from the dining areas. Our request had just been ignored. The hotel said they may be able to move us, but not until late the next day and they couldn't say where our rooms would be in the resort. Since it was 10 pm when we arrived, we were tired and decided not to endure the aggravation of a move to who knows where. Despite the minuses, we still enjoyed our holiday. The weather was lovely and the people of Dominican Republic could not have been nicer.

My wife and I just returned from a return stay at Secrets Royal Beach and wanted to share our experiences. We stayed on Resort last January 2017 where we had 9 young adults (22-28) and ourselves, 11 in total. We enjoyed that Trip immensely and selfishly booked a return trip for only ourselves this time. Jan 2018 We joined the Travel Club which entitled us to many upgrades and privileges which we took advantage of. I prebooked a direct car for us from the Airport and to the Resort and back, which while pricey was certainly worth it for us as we were 3 hours late in arriving in Punta Cana from a blizzard and frozen plane at home. One of our pleasant unknowns was having a Butler- Mr Marcelo. Marcelo is an outstanding person in his own right. Nothing was too much trouble, he is very processional and intuitive. He found us where ever we were and checked in to ensure our experience was the best that he was able to provide. This trip experience was certainly different that our last. Unfortunately the evening rains of Dominican Winter showed up most nights right before the entertainment. But a few shows did take place and the entertainment staff did their best. The Accommodations we as nice as we expected, we upgraded to pool view. The food to be very honest was a disappointment this time. A member of the staff let us know that "the Chef from last year is no longer at the Resort and the current Chef doesn't to be there, and they are hoping to have the past chef back next year". Good to know but not encouraging.folks coming on the grounds The property is well maintained daily, no litter, grasses and pool are perfect The beach is very very well maintained and security is on the ball straight away for wandering folks trying to take over the beach Breakfasts are excellent. The serving and preparation staff are fantastic Pools were COLD so was the hot tub; more of an artic splash. But 2 Tequilas and your warm all over. Best dinner Porto Fino hands down. >>>Entertainment staff Stand out: Mr Milky Way >>5 STARS of Excellence >>> Preferred Pool Staff; Anna Maria and Jeffery AMAZING>>5 Stars of Excellence >>> Yohano; still giving it his all even after a broken leg--Thank you for your company and looking after us once again<<< Mr Marcello once again a stand out for sure. Staff on site are very friendly at all times and greet you warmly without hesitation. We would return to the Resort, butu would hope that the old Chef is back as the food was a disappointment. We have stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid Jamaica Also a fantastic destination

STAY AWAY! A RIP OFF WITH AWFUL FOOD & MAIDS WHO ENTER ROOMS WITHOUT KNOCKING BEFORE 8 AM!!

Having vacationed at Secrets Wild Orchard in Jamaica twice, I was expecting a similar level of food, service, and hospitality. I was, unfortunately, disappointed with all of the above. Food choices are extremely limited. If you do not spend extra money to upgrade to their Premium section, you are limited to the buffet at breakfast. There are no a la carte options. The scrambled eggs, french toast and bacon were all terribly undercooked. For lunch, there is once again the buffet or you can stand on line at the beach grill. Secrets Royal Beach advertises that there are many more restaurants to choose from at dinner than there actually are AT Secrets. You can eat at the adjoining resort, Now Larimar, but that is a family resort and therefore the restaurants there have the babies and children those of us who opted for an Adults Only resort are trying to avoid...especially at dinner. Food at dinner was mediocre in most restaurants except for Seaside Grill, where both the food and service were outstanding! Now on to service...if you are lucky enough to get a server who actually understands and speaks English, you then may be lucky enough to get what you actually ordered. My husband and I each ordered a Cosmopolitan and were served two completely different cocktails - neither one a Cosmo. At one meal I ordered a glass of Proscecco. I was served an empty glass! Expect to rise early, very early, as the few chaise lounges they provide around the pool are all gone before 8 a.m. They have a policy against that, but I did not see it enforced ever. I purchased a spa treatment for Valentines Day for my husband and myself through their All-Inclusive department prior to arriving. When I got there, I spent over an hour trying to get what I paid for and attempting to get them to credit the actual amount that had already been charged on my credit card. This was never done correctly and not only was I overcharged, but had difficulty checking out due to the Spa changing the amount I owed them 4 different times. When I got home, I spoke with the All Inclusive department again and all they owned up to was the fact that the amount they charged to my credit card was indeed MORE than the spa credited me. I spent another hour trying to check out with the manager who didn't offer any compensation for the amount of time wasted on this ridiculous issue. And, by the way, our actual massage began 20 minutes late and ended 5 minutes early! Probably the worst experience was when a maid entered my room before 8 a.m. without knocking! I was alone in bed (my husband was out looking for chaise lounges!) and this person just walked right in! It was actually the day we were checking out, so there should not have been anyone cleaning before we checked out! I told the manager about this and all I got was a weak "Sorry". Nothing was offered to compensate! So all in all, there are SO many better choices out there. Do yourself a favor and avoid Secrets Royal Beach!
