Excellent
Excellent experience. The staff was very welcoming and was always polite with my poor attempt at speaking Dominican. Alam, our concierge took care all the tough stuff so we could just relax and enjoy. Thanks Alam.

Food ruined an otherwise beautiful resort
The good: the resort and atmosphere were beautiful! Great atmosphere. Weather didn’t cooperate the whole time, but that is no one’s fault. Our personal concierge Adriel Cabrera was incredibly helpful, kind, and responsive! The not-so-good: the menus look great, and our first night experience was very good, so I want to say it was hit or miss but honestly after that it was mostly miss. Food quality was maybe a 6/10 while food safety was a 2/10. Both of us got sick. Food that should be hot was barely warm or cold and food that should be cold was room temperature. Not much can redeem the overall experience from that. Sad, because the staff and atmosphere were wonderful.

A 5 star resort for circle members, 4 star for the rest of us.
This was an excellent family vacation. We enjoyed our 7 day stay, our first time at a Melia resort, 10th time in the Dominican. This resort has all the characteristics of a 5 star location but there were a few key details that made this resort a 4 star ( with a 5 star price tag) for us and the Melia resorts locations we might not consider in the future. The staff, absolutely outstanding in the bars, restaurants, buffet and the housekeeping services. The front desk staff were friendly but uncompromising and not exactly helpful. Concierge services were a big let down for us. This person’s main and only interest was to make sure we attended a Circle sales pitch at the beginning of the stay, then we didn’t see him again after that. The Master suite was spacious with comfortable beds, and was very, very clean. There was a great outdoor space, a dressing area, 3 sinks, excellent A/C, complimentary snacks, good water pressure, wifi was steady. Almost a 5 star room. However the fridge was acting up, we asked the concierge and the front desk to take a look, nothing happened. The safe didn’t work well, buttons were broken. We found a couple of roaches in the room and the floor leaked water on rainy days. But we were on the first floor and have had similar issues in other resorts. The room had a few glitches but was the best room of any resort we have stayed at. Security was widespread and attentive on this site. Guards and cameras everywhere, I felt very safe in this resort. Grounds were immaculate and stunning. The sound system was wonderful too. We preferred the small pool, it was clean, cool and had plenty of Bali beds and comfortable chairs. Every chair has an umbrella which was definitely needed. The deck chairs have a thick comfortable pad. Really top notch. The beach….. oh the beach. This was a wonderful location, fully staffed lifeguards, wide open beach with white sands and amazing views. But….. The main reason we might not return to a Melia resort is because of the CIRCLE membership incentive programme. This resort is constantly trying to upsell the client. To the detriment of non circle members. One of the worst examples of this is the beach. In the circle members section there is an unobstructed view of the ocean on the beach. In the non circle section the resort has planted large balli beds in front of all the palapa and deck chairs. The balli beds are for rent and completely block the view for everyone behind them. So we didn’t bother setting up on the beach. This is my main reason for coming to the D.R. To sit, read a book and enjoy the views. Every restaurant had a circle section with premium choices for entrees. The steakhouse was renamed the meat house because there are no steaks on the all inclusive menu but there are for circle members. There were select bars, restaurants, preferred chairs , late check out accommodations made for circle members that were not extended to non members. I am sure the concierge would have been more attentive had we become a circle member. We have been to Dreams, Catalonia, Grand Bahai, Ilberostar, the Princess etc….every resort has programmes like this but none as aggressive and obvious as the Melia circle programme. I also question if this programme is effective, tons of these preferred spaces were empty and it is off putting to new visitors who clearly feel the second class visitor status. It is a bit of a shame because I would love to go back to this resort. I loved the pool and the staff. The room was wonderful and we had a great vacation. But the devil is in the details. We spent more on this vacation the”an we ever have, we don’t want an empty balli bed plunked in front of our deck chairs on the beach so the resort can make a quick buck. It feels chintzy. We don’t want to know we could get the good spot if only we were in the cool kids club.
