Great time at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar
JCasHer, New Jersey
Wed Jun 29 07:19:24 EDT 2016
We spent the 1st week of June at the Del Mar and loved it. We are a family of 4 including a 19 and 22 year old. It was our 4th time at an Iberostar property, the first time here. We previously stayed a few times at the Tucan. My children love the Iberostars because of the activities and overall fun atmosphere. (We've stayed at the Barcelos and did not like the food or lack of activities.) This resort was beautiful. The property is very large so plan on doing a lot of walking which is a good thing because the food was good. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. Loved Julia in the Lobby. Very helpful. The pools. Amazing! They have the largest pool in all of the Riviera Maya. The front pool closest to the beach was where all the action took place. We liked to stay there because it was close to the beach and our room. They play music by this pool and do the pool games and aerobics there. The other pool is enormous too and is like a lazy river winding all the way back towards the lobby ending up with a large cavelike formation with a waterfall and jacuzzi tub. There are chairs and swinging beds along the length of the pool. There are 3 pool bars on the resort as well as one by the beach. There is a beach grill which is nice especially when you stay at the beach. You can sit at the picnic tables in the sand under the talapas and have a nice lunch or ice cream. The beach bar is there too. Or there are 2 restaurants between the beach and the pool that also serve lunch. They have a nice variety daily. Or you can go to the lobby buffet and eat. We stayed more down by the beach area during the day. The rooms are very clean and well kept. This hotel is one of 5 Iberostars together who share a little community. The Del Mar is for the fun crowd. Not stuffy. The higher end hotel is amazing but a little too quiet for us. There is a shopping center with some restaurants which are also part of the all inclusive plan. There is also a nightclub for all of the 5 Iberostar hotel guests so it gets pretty crowded at night also covered by the all inclusive. They also have a full fitness center in the community which has classes all day and equipment. The Star team does a great job keeping people who want to participate having fun. They also have shows at night time which end around 10:30. There is a lobby bar and also a sports bar in the lobby that shows games that are on. The sports bar is also a restaurant that you can go without reservations. They have a Hibachi restaurant and a Brazillian restaurant that we went to that were good. We also ate at the steakhouse by the beach which was nice. We usually at breakfast at the lobby buffet as well as a couple dinners. You can always find something you like. We did not do any excursions this time since we've been on a few before. That would be my only negative comparing it to the Tucan's location. I liked how the Tucan was in the Playacar gated community only a couple of minutes from 5th Avenue. From the Paraiso Del Mar it's a $25 cab ride each way. We liked walking around 5th ave and also the convenience of being a couple minutes away from the ferry to Cozumel. FYI, if you go to Cozumel you can rent a jeep and travel around the island and then use the Iberostar on Cozumel for free. We ate lunch there and used the pool/beach. That was fun. Wherever you stay, the Iberostar does a really good job on making great vacations. More>

Iberostar does it again

A large group of us traveled to the Iberostar in Playa Del Carmen in June, 2016. Overall it was a great experience. The hotel is extremely large - 4 or 5 lobbys in the resort. We stayed in the Del Mar side. Although it is big, it's pretty easy to get to know where things are within a few days. There are several buffet restaurants that are exactly what you'd expect - buffets are not 5 star dining. We were able to make reservations at the Mexican, Mediteranien, steak house, and habatchi - with the steak and habatchi being the best. The pool is extremely large with several pool bars. Rooms in buildings 15, 14, 13 are closer to pool and beach, with rooms in buildings 20, 19 closer to the lobby. There are shows in the theater (near lobby) nightly and again, these are what you would expect from a resort, not broadway. The beach is wide and they keep it very clean. There are plenty of seats and we never had a problem with finding chairs. We had a wonderful time and would consider returning to this resort again in the future. More>

Iberostar Playa Parisio and Del Mar

Overall great experience, enjoyed the buffets and the steak house. Most of the food is pretty decent and selection varies from time to time at the buffets. Staff are pretty friendly and hard working. As well as the star friends performances, activities and competitions. Enjoyed the nightly performance shows with different themes. Like a broadway show! Was originally suppose to stay at parisio beach but ended up ataying in del mar. Fairly family oriented place, sorta like a mini disney land in a way. More>

Great hotel and great entertainment

Second stay at this hotel. Great experience. The hotel grounds/campus is large, and the walk from lobby to pool and pool to rooms can be long. So if you have any kind of walking restrictions you may find this property challenging. They do have a shuttle that runs throughout but a few times it was full and we ended up having to walk. Don't believe the weather forecast on your smartphone! Our phones indicated rain and thunderstorms every day of our trip...and we had several hours of gorgeous sun every day! Each building has 3 floors...and there are no elevators....so again, if you have any restrictions, may not be the property for you. Food was great. Highly recommend the Brazilian restaurant.....fantastic meat! The only negative comment is that there is no designated spot for smokers. We are non-smokers, and we were clearly the minority at this resort. Coming from the US where most states have restrictions on designated smoking areas, the lack of designated areas was a problem. Sitting at the pool or the beach and enjoying a nice relaxing afternoon and someone pops down next to you and starts smoking....we had to move places several times to get away from it. Same issue with walking back to our room....lots of people smoking on a sometimes crowded path...and you are in the path of it. Would love to see this resort implement designated smoking areas....and enforce them. More>

Fantastic Pool

Stayed at this resort for 7 days in June, check-in was a bit slow as there was only one person checking guest in, but after that got to the room quickly which was as expected and found it to be clean and well stocked. The grounds are very well maintained and it did take a couple of days to get familiar to find your way around never found the same path twice. The buffet food was good but the lack of air conditioning did make some of the meals very uncomfortable to enjoy. We only went to 2 a la cartes the first being the Mediterranean and found the appetizers better than the main meal, and the second was the Japanese where there was no air conditioning, very hot to sit in front of a hot plate show and enjoy this meal. We did find a lobby sports bar which was air conditioned and could order food. Service was good and food not bad. The pool is the hightlite of this resort but there were days in the afternoon when we were not able to get a lounger, so instead we went to the ocean where the beach was nice, good swimming areas and loungers available. Overall had a good time but would not go back due to the lack of air conditioning in the eating areas. More>
