Iberostar hit it out of the park!
NANCY A.
Nov 12 2017
Our all-inclusive stay at Iberostar del Mar was amazing for the price we paid! It far exceeded our expectations and surpassed the quality of a previous all-inclusive resort in Cancun. We loved the proximity to great scuba diving and snorkeling. Next time, I'll spend more time with a good book on the beach on one of the many cabanas/sleeper lounges or in the perfect aqua water on the beach. I loved being able to order a drink or snack right on the beach, with no money exchanging hands. What a great place! Great restaurants and buffets throughout and available golf carts to carry you wherever you want to go. The pathways and beautiful landscaped areas invite evening strolls too.

Service amazing but food was awful

Almost everything about our trip was amazing except the food. Highly disappointed in almost everything. Need better quality even at the a la carte. Japanese was good but Mediterranean was not at all. Service every where was nice. Workers were so friendly and nice. Most hard working people I've seen. Food ruined the experience and would make us not go back.

Upon check in I was told the room I paid extra for wasn't available so I was put in a small room with 2 double beds not what I wanted for a get away with my husband so I complained first told I could move next day then told next week so I went to desk and complained and was moved within 2 min. room was nice. Pool was very dirty every day. Only one swim bar open so was very busy we had to order 4 drinks ar a time just to get drinks. Staff for the most part weren't friendly. Felt like when they saw our blue wrist band we were treated differently. Spoke with others who had been there before and they said they would never come back it had changed in a year. Set a glass outside our door and it sat there for 3 days. Had to wait along time for a ride to anywhere since the resort was so big you really needed to ride everywhere. S a lot of time was wasted waiting for a ride or walking. While eating one night workers came by with a back pack blower on and were spraying bug spray came right in on our food needless to say we didn't eat that night. Pool was always dirty no matter what time never saw anyone ever clean it. I have pictures of the filth. Felt that the resort was very understaffed.

Beautiful Resort

The resort is beautiful and well maintained. The food was excellent, especially in the specialty restaurants. The entertainment was not the greatest and the venue was not air conditioned, so it was not comfortable to sit and watch. The rooms were nice, but the air conditioner could have been a bit cooler as well. Plenty of chairs around the massive pool area, but not on the beach.

Great Vacay - Friendly Staff & Beautiful Property
ALEXANDRA A.
Sep 19 2017
This was my first time to Mexico and I was not sure what to expect but the reviews of Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar seemed good and my boyfriend and I were looking for a budget-friendly vacay. I will start off by saying that this is a great choice for those like us who are "ballin' on a budget" - you get a lot of value for your money with the beautiful resort, nice rooms, and amazing service. Other highlights of our trip included the amazing bartenders who all went out of their way to make sure we had plenty to drink and that our drinks were made the way we liked. The entertainment team did a great job organizing fun activities during the day - we had a blast playing pool volleyball, horseshoe games on the beach, and even lost terribly at the beer chugging contest! The shows at night were a lot of fun too - we saw a "Dancing through the decades" show with music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s as well as a very entertaining magic show our last night. The only things that I took points off the review for are the far distances required to walk to the pool, beach, lobby, etc. - we were in building 1600 and were fairly close to the pool but had a 5 minute walk each way to the lobby or beach and I would have liked if everything was a bit more central. That being said, the grounds are immaculately clean and we saw so many cool exotic animals during our walks such as flamingos, lizards, swans, peacocks, and coatis (my favorite!) so that made up for the long walks. The food was hit or miss - the buffet wasn't bad for the most part, it really just depends what you get. We tried the Mediterranean and Brazilian a la carte restaurants but accidentally missed Japanese due to a long nap after a few too many Bahama Mamas our first night! The Mediterranean was just okay - the lobster I had was very dry but the steak was pretty good. We really enjoyed the Brazilian and enjoyed all of the options available to try - I stayed away from the cow thyroid but the BF was more adventurous! I had read good reviews about the Japanese restaurant so we are still both kicking ourselves for missing it. Overall, we had an amazing time at this beautiful resort and would recommend it for the price we paid. The staff was all super friendly and is devoted to making sure you have an awesome vacay and the value is very good. P.S. Be sure to check out the unique Star Wars themed disco next door at Paraiso Beach - we had a blast and it was one of our favorite nights!

I will write a bigger review on trip advisor but to make a long story short we had to extend our stay twice due to hurricane Irma. Our four night trip turned into 12. We have been very lucky to have been able to continue our stay here and the hotel gave us cheaper rates to accommodate our unexpected extended stay. We will definitely be coming back.

Overall our family (19) had a very good experience. All went very smoothly overall. Was disappointed that we were not all in the same building as requested..and the rooms we requested several were to be adjoining rooms (especially for my 82 year old father). That was about the only drawback..and there was no real effort to ever try to correct this throughout the week.

I cannot stress enough how wonderful the staff was at this resort. Not only was the resort very beautiful, I met not one staff member that provided less than superior service. From the front door to the back we were pleased and made to feel welcomed. This includes the spa staff and shopkeepers as well. Thank you.

large resort, but did not mind the distance to walk from place to place. hotel grounds were fairly well kept. Food was pretty good, some hits & some misses as with most resorts. the highlight was the meal at the Brazilian a la carte. stayed in a base level hotel room and thought it was was good enough, no problems. one of the best things about this resort was their kids club program - they did an extraordinary job - so may different activities for the kids. at night, kids performed various shows on the theater's stage before the main show - what a great way to build kid's self-esteem, confidence, & social skills!

Attractively-Unattractively unusual/old-fashioned/boring
Anna S, Calgary, Canada

My husband, daughter (16) and I booked this property from Oct. 28th to Nov. 4th, 2017 We were pretty excited to escape Alberta, Canada for a week. Vacation was booked with Sunwing (as usual). Our flight from Calgary to Cancun was just plain awful, with crew so low on a customer service, to the point I wanted to explode. However, my Sungwing flight WG487 review will find its place somewhere else. Going back to Del Mar review. Before I make any remarks about this property I would like to say that staff at the resort is so nice, polite and helpful. Multiple staff members interacted with us for two days stay and all of them were just amazing. Sunwing/Nexus guy at the property (his name) Oliver was so helpful and We were pleasantly surprised BY HIS EFFECTIVENESS. Check In/Reception: Once again really good customer service, very helpful, we stayed in building 13 (closer to the pools, or you can say half way between the beach and reception. Property/Grounds: well maintained, choice of exterior and interior colors is from 1920, but I guess some people like that. I love walking, but dear God it was so much walking in two days to get where you wanted to go. There are golf carts passing by almost every 5 min so yes if you choose to be driven around, yes you can do it. I found that most of the times carts are not going in my direction or they are taking different routs around the property so in all honesty it was faster to walk. There are some building's facade where you can clearly see maintenance is to be done like (last year) but I guess with humidity and all the rest management is trying to catch up and do the best in their power. When you stay at Del Mar you have access to Iberostar Beach, if you would like to visit any of other 3 properties you HAVE TO PAY, and the range per person per day was from $50 to $300+. When you check the commercial or promotional video and pictures of Del Mar there are in fact pictures including other Iberostar properties (such as hammock area). Sure you can go there and enjoy in hammock for a day $50 USD per person. Not cool. For instance IB part has gym, tennis court, archery and some other perks, which yes you can visit at no extra cost. But, how about if you are already selling two different properties both can have same amenities accessible for the guest at each. My opinion. All I want to say is that this is not a first time property has been misleading in advertising. Now I am not sure if this is up to a travel agency or a property. Rooms: Dear Mother of God. Needs some updates as soon as possible. Mattresses so uncomfortable, double beds...I believe beds on purpose are shortened for an inch or two. Cleanliness of the rooms it is not close as to 4.5* rating. We were ready to pay extra and be transferred to a better room but after checking out couple of rooms we have decided it was not worth spending extra $$$. When you stay at Del Mar you have access to Iberostar Beach, if you would like to visit any of other 3 properties you HAVE TO PAY, and the range per person per day was from $50 to $300+. Pool: we did not spend much time by the pool, but it did looked clean, lot of pool chairs, and after 4pm water is on a cold (no heating pools). To us pools looked like a dead end, it was quite, entertainment was not much...it was sad. We were told it is low season, but again if advertised it should be delivered, or maybe a note or two advising travelers of high pick good entertainment, low pick slow entertainment season. Note like this might avoid bad reviews and can only be a plus. Entertainment: Soooooo boring. This is not a reflection of people who work as entertainers at the resort but rather about not meeting our expectations. The usual show is 9:30pm to I think 10 or 10:30pm and after that you can indulge in a cairokee, DON'T. All in all we were bored to death. Food: plain. A la cart was clean, but food (ugh). There is an area highly advertised by all the staff, it's like a small version of a mall, where food court is included in your stay, Please if your stomach is not made from iron, do not eat there. I have had a cheese cake so bad that 5 min after having two small fork-bites of a cheese cake I was sick. Stores at the "mall" are nice, clean and freaking expansive, just go out to Playa and do not waste your time at the so called mall. Beach: absolutely the best part of this resort (if you walk more to your right). Ocean was very clean, same as beach, but for some reason it had that dead quite boring feeling. If it is up to me I would have some music there (other then personal headphones). All in all not impressed with what I have paid for...so Sunwing and Oliver helped us to transfer to another resort rated at 4* (Riu Tequila) way, way better. One thing I was not impressed with is paying for a Taxi to be transferred, and that ride cost us $40 USD. I guess if you are looking for a quite not eventful vacation then this is the property to stay at, or if you are first time at an All Inclusive resort then you might be in awe...us not so much. Oh and do not let me forget: beware of mosquitoes!!! For end I would just like to once again point to all the staff at the resort, really nice, pleasant and helpful people. Side note to the staff at reception: just because I do not speak Spanish that does not necessarily means I do not understand, so your comments about us or other guests or remarks you make were quite funny for somebody with a sarcastic sense of humor (such as me), but those same comments can be easily misunderstood by others and can get you in a "hot water".

I had a great stay at this resort. Javier and Isarel the drivers were so great. Orlando and Jorge did a great job at the bar. Esteban gets 5 stars because he is an exceptional human being! Please recognize him for all that he gives while providing the highest level of service. My room did not get cleaned one of the days I was there, but there are worse things in life. It's resort food so my expectations were not very high...but at least they try. Wish I had gone to the ruins...next time for sure!

Nice Resort. Downfall is the number of Coati roaming the property
Joey H, Upper Marlboro, MD
Wed Nov 08 07:50:20 EST 2017
I returned from the resort on Sunday, November 5. The resort property is nice. However, the downfall is the number of Coati that are roaming the property. These animals look like raccoons and are all over the place! I could not enjoy the pool or beach without being on guard for the Coati. We were at the pool and the Coati were running under the chairs and attempting to go inside someone's bag. They were also going inside of the covered trash cans Something needs to be done. I'm sure the Coati are not running rampant around the Grand property. Also, the availability of the restaurants need to be evaluated. We arrived on Wed, Nov 1 and was told that we could not get any reservations until Saturday. I was not pleased with this answer and asked for a supervisor. After speaking with a supervisor, we were able to get reservations for Friday, Nov 3.

Best Bartender Ever!

This is the second time my Wife and I have stayed here and it is wonderful. Found the best bartender ever! His name is Eduardo Alei Larate Sanchez and his imagination and use of fresh fruits and veggies is amazing! This is the kind of talent is usually only found in the big cities at high end establishments. Don't lose him!! Loved the snacks that Octavio made for the members beach. The only downside was the music soundtrack loop that played at the members beach. This is Mexico and we are on the beach...a little bit more lively and a loop that is more than 3 hours. We've had our Iberostar membership for 2 years and it is the most value oriented return on investment dollar of any plan that we have seen.
