Dreams? More like a Nightmare

Beach was not maintained, water was black, not swimable, concrete barriers in water, smelled so bad you couldn't even sit on the beach, picture online was highly photo shopped and very misleading, hotel smelled like mildew, rooms were dirty, mirrors in room covered in rust, pools were filthy, swim up bar not very accessible, dolphin area also filthy, 3 of 5 restaurants were closed for multiple days. Got switched to another resort but had to pay an additional 1067.45. Emailed Apple customer care as instructed and haven't heard back. I'm requesting a refund for the difference in price. Not only did we have to pay more money but we lost an entire day and a half of our stay dealing with this. We weren't the only party to switch hotels either. I have pictures of the filth. Please respond to my email or call me. 859.760.6847

Seaweed seaweed seaweed and stench from seaweed
PAUL D.
Jun 06 2018
Extreme seaweed started to collect in the resort’s bay/lagoon. From what staff said, this is seasonal, which I fully understand is uncontrollable. What is controllable is the cleanup. They started trying to clean this up with two guys and wheelbarrows. Clearly this was not even close to enough manpower to clean this up. As the week went on they added more manpower, then a pump, then a front end loader. The issue was how long it took to get the equipment out there they needed. If this happens every year, they should be PREPARED EVERY YEAR! The combination of the stink and the fact we couldn’t go into the water really ruined the majority of our vacation. I realize the resort doesn’t want to shut down during this time, but they should be prepared for the cleanup and be up front and honest with potential customers so they can make an informed choice or be prepared for the atmosphere they will be spending their precious vacation time at. I would also like to note that the weeds/ stink was the talk of the resort and some guests were helping the staff shovel the weeds from the water and beach.

Dreams Puerto Adventures Vacation

We stayed at this all-inclusive hotel 5/25-6/1. This was our second year staying there. I had emailed the Concierge prior to our visit to let them know about a birthday and an anniversary that we were celebrating and i received no response. Upon arrival we were talked into upgrading to the honeymoon suite to celebrate our anniversary. The suite was less than perfect. The large mirror in the bathroom had mold and fog behind it. The sliding glass door had no lock on it from the balcony and it took someone 4 days to fix it. Numerous times during our stay we had to call maintenance for bathroom problems that were not answered quickly. We also had a very unfortunate experience with poo being smeared on our bed after one of the maintenance visits. We are not one to complain about our rooms and we are very kind and generous in tipping to our maids and to all staff. We realize that are on vacation and understand that issues arise, but this was one step too far. The incident was reported 3 times over the course of 4 hours before someone actually came to strip the bed. It was awful. The pool had mold in all the grout lines below the water level. It was clean only above the water line. The food was decent, we didn’t have any complaints there and room service was very good. We also had a romantic dinner on the beach that was wonderful. My husband and I each had a 50 minute massage and a foot reflexology which was also very nice. The bartenders were very attentive and we were happy with their service. Upon checkout we had room charges which were expected but they were trying to tell me that the charges were for something that they were not for. They kept telling me we didn't use our coupons at the spa and had to pay the full price for our massages. I had to fight until they a hold of a manager at the spa to confirm that we did in fact use our coupons. It was finally settled and i paid our bill. We have been traveling with Apple vacations through Baltimore Travel for 9 years now and we have never had an experience like this before. We were very disappointed with the level of service and cleanliness of this hotel. Overall we are very proud to say that we travel with Apple and usually don't have issues but this was our one trip that was not something dreams are made of. On a side note we did fish with Captain Rick’s Fishing Charters in the Marina area of Puerto Adventures and the two trips we went on were spectacular! Go Captain Danny & David!

Not a Mexico Beach Vacation

Arrived at hotel told by staff they have had 7 months of seaweed covering the beach. Daily trucks would try and hall it off the beach and staff would try and remove it from the water. So enjoying the ocean and the smell about killed you from the lobby stairs to the pool area. It is unacceptable that the Apple rep at hotel would not assist on fixing issue or even help us get out of there early. Other hotels in the area did have clear beaches and it would have been NICE that Apple would have given appropriate advice at time of booking, LIKE you will have NO BEACH! Very disappointed in location and Apple!

My 3 day experience at the hotel was just OK. I say that because the sea weed issue was terrible. The smell was more then I could stand and because of of the smell, it attracted bugs and my husband and I was unable to enjoy the beach at all. On day 2 after we went to breakfast and returned to our room, our room was not clean or the bed was not made up. At 12:00 noon I called house keeping and asked if someone could come clean our room. We went to lunch and when we returned, our room was still not clean. Our room wasn't clean until after 3pm. That same night we didn't have air condition in the room. We called and asked if they could do something about this. They said they would send someone up but no one came.

Where should I begin!!! The ride to the resort had the air conditioning broken with a van that had more than 15 people in it. the only way to cool off was buying beer from the driver? even that wasnt enough since he ran out. There wasn't one day that we could go in the ocean, we stayed for 7 days. The beach was rocky and full of sea alges. The water was so bad that a number of people got really bad skin rashes. when we complained about this they told us that we need to leave a review in order for them to do something about it. The resort prides itself that there are no dinner reservations needed for any of the restaurant. But if you are a bigger group the only way you can sit together is if you buy over priced bottles of tequila or wine. We purchased some wine for $120 just so we can sit together. There was a show that lasted for 2 hrs, by the time the show was over we didn't even get our appetizers, everybody was starving. Once we got the dinner 2 hrs later there was 1 spoon of mashed potatoes, a piece of salad and a piece of meat. The stake was so hard that we couldn't even cut it with the knife. The only place to eat if you were hungry was the buffet which had a limited selection of food. when we complained about this they told us that we need to leave a review in order for them to do something about it. The room was great no complains there Free room service is also great Good liquor was served like captain Morgan, jack Daniels, tanquaray gin etc the only place allowed to smoke was by the bathroom. when we complained about this they told us that we need to leave a review in order for them to do something about it. Dont think about upgrading your room to the dolphin view, they only come out if someone purchases a package with them The transportation people were calling us early every morning to get us to go downstairs so they can try to sell us in to buying trips and different things. The transportation people told us that they will cancel our ride back if every person on the reservation shows up.

"meh" in Mexico

Our trip to Dreams Puerto Aventuras was ok. The service and staff were AMAZING! BUT the beach was unswimmable-seaweed everywhere. I understand they can't control it and that is why we got such a great deal on the trip, but it was still a huge bummer to not be able to access the ocean. They also do not have NEARLY enough beach chairs. My husband and I were verbally berated by another guest for using two of the twenty chairs he had reserved with a folded towel for his group. I know this is something that people do all the time-save chairs-but it is rude and selfish. I hate it. I purposely paid for the Preferred Club to have a designated lounge area on the beach where we would not have to deal with this. This resort does not have a Preferred Club beach area. We ended up paying for a cabana the last two days to avoid the whole thing. People are always going to "save" seats for themselves because humans are selfish, but the hotel should have some sort of enforced policy to prevent it, limit it or avoid it. Maybe chairs are numbered by room-2 per room? It is not relaxing on your vacation to be accosted by other rude guests. The food at this resort was also ok. It wasn't bad. It was just ok. The buffet was very disappointing. The same tired stuff every day. We ate at most of the other restaurants and while I understand feeding the masses means cutting quality, I have had better at other all inclusives. One great thing was being able to walk around the marina area outside the resort. We ate at a restaurant off the resort one night and did a little shopping. It's wonderful to be in such a safe area. Our room was very nice and well kept and as I said the staff were excellent. There were just a few real bummers that would probably stop me from visiting this resort again.

Our overall stay was good. 1.) The pool on the adult side needs work desperately. Tile was overlayed atop the previous tile work and it is no longer holding. It is dated and needs some serious attention. 2.) I also found it difficult that there wasn't really a place to hang out for adults that was 24 hours. As we venture to these resorts, we make friends from all different parts of the country and world. It is a great way to connect and wind down from the day, eat some snacks and for some, sober up before laying down to make a mess for housekeeping. 3.) High pressure sales needs to end. We wanted to stay at the resort and specifically chose the resort due to having excursions on the grounds. We were given the sales pitches, multiple times, and our answer just wasn't enough. We were then told to check back with our Apple Agent at his desk to finalize our transportation to get back home and he was extremely rude to talk to and even dumped us on to his colleague. While I might recommend the hotel, I can not say that I would recommend AppleVacations.

Great visit to Mexico, as usual!
Rsls11, Anna, Illinois
Wed Jun 13 12:22:55 EDT 2018
This was my husband & I's 7th time visiting Mexico together. We have been via cruise, excursions, and many all inclusive's. We were there the first week of June. I believe the weather was the best it has ever been anytime we've ever visited, as it didn't even rain once. We quite enjoyed this resort. We stayed there our entire visit, with the exception of one day - we went to Xel-ha (which we have been to 3 times and we HIGHLY recommend!) Definitely want to comment on the food and drinks. We were very satisfied with both. There are a lot of negative reviews for this resort and I really don't understand them. We are not the pickiest people, but we really are QUITE picky. lol. (Please refer to my review of the RIU resort & how we will never stay at another RIU resort ever again!) We had a terrific time here. My main complaint would be the travel between resort and airport is over an hour; keep in mind if that is a concern/deal breaker for some. I wouldn't pick this resort when traveling with my 5 year old for this reason. We always stay closer to the airport when traveling with him. The seaweed was only an issue 1 day and I will comment, much as other's have, that the staff works 24/7 to rid the beach of seaweed. Overall, great time.

Good resort but not good for a beach getaway

If a beach is important to you, this is not the spot for you. Where the resort sits is right at a cutout of the gulf of Mexico and unfortunately Mother nature decides to dump a ton of seaweed there. The hotel works very very hard to try to manage it, but unfortunately there's just no way of really managing it. The room was fantastic except for how loud it was at night. You can hear tons of noise from the hallway and we didn't get a good night's sleep most nights. Very clean and secure however. Food choices and drinks were excellent along with a great pool area. Nightly entertainment was awesome and having the dolphins at the resort was a highlight for our family.

Exceptional staff!

We had the opportunity to visit Dreams Puerto Adventuras on our first family vacation last week. The kids had an absolute blast and we loved connecting with the most friendly staff I've seen in awhile, from waitstaff to the entertainment team. I'll breakdown the highlights and low lights. Explorer's Club: absolutely fantastic staff who are AMAZING with kids. They have activities going on ALL day and the best part for our family was the nightly activities. We dropped the kids off, got a 'beeper' and the kids had a blast with others their age, while we enjoyed a quiet dinner alone. Perfectly safe. Love this feature. Entertainment staff: Very excellente!! They work so hard and have endless energy. To Erik, Mitzi, Alejandro, Govanni and Bernice: thank you for making our trip special and memorable. We miss you already. Food: Buffet was ok. Great for breakfast and the occasional lunch. Our favorite restaurants were Sushi and Portofino, but we had exceptional dinners everywhere! Late night fries and pizza hit the spot on several occasions. special shout out to the fantastic waiters we met (exceptional service always to everyone!) Eva (love you and so does my daughter Ava), Edgar, Julian. Drink: Beer selection is awesome! Corona on tap and everything but Dos Equis in cans. Mixed drinks were equally tasty and the bartenders worked very hard to fulfill special request for ALL guests. Special shout outs to Luis, Edgar, Miguel and Francisco. Beach: It really is so unfortunate and completely beyond the resorts control in regards to the seaweed. It smells... comes and goes. But on clear days the snorkeling (just a few feet away) is awesome! kayaks and hobie cats are awesome and the guys at the shack are friendly and helpful. A+ All in all. It was a fantastic trip. If you are considering this resort for a family vacation and the price is right... book it. you won't be disappointed for the money spent. I asked the kids to write down their favorite staff. They were: Luis, Eva, Edgar, Miguel, Bernice, Govanni and Francisco. Thank you Dreams!

We have stayed at Dreams before and were expecting the high level of luxury we have gotten before. However, this hotel is needing some love. The pool areas need updating and repairs need to be made. Lights on the pool walls were loose which concerned us. The bar area was chipped up badly with lots of tiles missing. Unfortunately the beach is suffering badly from sea weed pollution. It is obviously a massive ongoing problem. Bringing in a JCB digger to help is not ideal as we then were sucking in the diesel fumes and listen to the noise. Not sure how they are going to deal with this problem but honesty to guests before making their final booking would be appreciated. We paid extra for the preferred club and was disappointed. We had one un-airconditioned room at the end of the hallway - we did use this room every evening later to play cards but not sure it was worth the extra $$$$s! Our room was extremely cold and everything was damp. Clothes in my case and in the closet were all damp. Tried to raise ac temp but then everything just got very humid and even damper! Not sure what that problem was - maybe old age of the system. Floors became extremely slippery and dangerous too. Our room on the 7th Floor had a sea view which was awesome. My two adult kids had a dolphin view which was beautiful, We would get a text from my daughter telling us what the dolphins were up to - they were suitably impressed! The food was disappointing. Again the food we were expecting from the level of other Dreams was far superior to this resort. Everything was very basic. The breakfast buffet was really not that good. It was hit or miss. . The hotel staff were phenomenal. The Entertainment Staff were amazing and kept us laughing all week. The Housekeeping staff were fantastic. The staff in the restaurants were great too. We found a hidden gem in Juan at the Seaside Grill. On the first evening we asked if he made spanish coffees and the answer was yes. He went out of his way to find the ingredients and every night thereafter we went back to visit him before bed time and he entertained us with making spanish coffees - it is a must! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Dreams but felt that it was not worth the high cost that we paid. Sorry Dreams you let us down on this one!

Nice Hotel, Great Staff... VERY POOR BEACH!
brettcarney10, Ames, Iowa
Mon Jun 11 06:29:34 EDT 2018
This hotel does NOT have a usable beach, so if you have visions of sitting on the beach and playing in the ocean water, then this is not the hotel for you. The beach is just a pile of stinky seaweed and the water around it is filled with so much seaweed you can't even swim in it. The smell is so bad that you can't even be near the beach. It is also VERY rocky, so you must wear water shoes to be in it or around it. So we spent our time mostly in the pool and laying out in a sand area away from the seaweed beach. The rooms are average, but the humidity in the rooms is pretty high, so your clothes get slightly damp and your floors get pretty slippery. This is not a new hotel, it is pretty worn and outdated in many areas... but they did a great job of keeping it clean. The entire staff here was great, we only had one incident where a worker rummaged through our suitcases and took all of our money we had stashed.. so lesson learned to use the room safe or take it with you. The hotel entertainment staff was excellent and there was live music daily, shows in the theater, and organized games through the day to keep you entertained.... which helped since no one could use the stinky seaweed beach. If you are looking for a reasonably priced resort and just want to lay by the pool then this is the hotel for you... BUT if you are looking for a great beach experience and a newer resort, then stay away from this one as you will be disappointed for sure.
