I have stayed at several Dreams resorts but this one was by far the worst. We arrived at 1030am and did not get into our room until 4pm. Different members of the hotel staff kept telling us the room was ready and then another would come by and tell us it wasn’t. We upgraded because this was a surprise birthday trip for my boyfriend. I had discussed that they have something available for his birthday and they forgot. The pools are very limited. The food was horrible and made me sick. The entertainment that was available was nice. As soon as you enter the hotel salesmen dressed as hotel members bombard you with sales presentations and phony bribes. I was upset with this trip and will not book it again.

The staff was was great! My issue was the very small beach and the fact that although the food was good- the options were very limited because each day Atleast 2 of the restaurants were closed.

Mold in mildew made the hotel smell horrible especially on the fourth and sixth floors. Our room was so heavily ordered with mildew that I broke out in a rash only two restaurants were open for dinner and both were so full they had 45 minute wait we had to leave the hotel complex to go find dinner in a nearby town all of the gym equipment was broken and amenities like the inflatable obstacle course for kids didn’t even exist. Hotel staff pretended these issues werent real. The Apple representative on site wouldn’t help me find a hotel to move to we had to wait until the next day and then it took us another 12 hours before we could leave and we had to pay over $1400 transferred to a hotel of the same quality and the same price had we not been missed lead by the Apple vacations website

We have stayed at many places in Riviera Maya. This was a smaller hotel, very nice. Great food for lunch and dinner! (breakfast not so much!). The beach area is actually a cove. so I you are looking for true ocean, you may look again. We were a bit disappointed in that, however the fish life made up for it. The room we stayed in lacked drawer space, which was a bit frustrating, but other than that rooms were clean.

We enjoyed our stay, the rooms and the staff were great, also the entertainment. The food was good, not great but good, the pools were very nice and clean. the only complaint is the beach it was a mess not usable and it was not the fault of the resort, the seaweed had overtaken the beach area. The staff worked very hard to keep the beach open but they were fighting a loosing battle and the seaweed they had piled up next to the beach left a terrible odor throughout the resort. we did have a great time in Mexico and plan to return again.

I had been at the resort about 8 years previous and had a great experience, top shelf liquor, facilities well maintained and room where very comfortable. This visit was different. The room did not have a dresser for cloths or lighting in the main part of the room, only in the bathroom. The selection of liquor was not top shelf. Food was good but not great. Adult pool was murky and needed paint and attention/repairs. Family pool was clear but needed repair/paint. Tile leaaking air in hot tube and hot tub on family side was not hot. Seemed a little run down. Staff was attentive and friendly. Not sure I will visit again unless they do a total renovation. Water pressure was good.

Hotel itself is dated. Older fixtures and furnishings. The staff makes up for that, every working person at this resort has a smile and a hello. I mean everyone, from the front desk, to the bar staff, to a bus person and even the crew working all day on the beach. Thank you.

We booked this on a last minute deal. We were desperate to get out of the cold. We read the mixed reviews so didn't have huge expectations. We were so pleasantly surprised! We loved everything about this place, and how well everything worked out. The only negative was when we checked out, we were in a hurry as we had to grab some lunch before our ride came. The gal was insistent that we complete a survey first. I would have rather done it later, as I am doing this one. But I would go back in a heartbeat!

Good Vacation Spot, Not Great.

We were looking for a last minute vacation spot for our Anniversary and took advantage of the Apple Vacations Deal of the Day. Booking was easy and we got a great deal. The resort is nice, clean, kept up well. Food is fair. I was expecting to have some of the best mexican food of my life but I was surprised to see that most of the food was cheap mass feeding options. Nothing very authentic. Rooms were clean and turn down service visited everyday. We have vacationed in several tropical location but this is the first where our linens were just "a little bit wet" all the time and some of our pillows smelled greatly of mold. Staff at the resort are very friend and kind. At the pool area waiters are quick to come by to serve drinks or take orders. You'll never have to get up if you don't want to! The beach itself is very pretty. We came when the wind was strong so we were able to watch some very talented surfers and that was very enjoyable. Unfortunately because of the wind none of the included water sports were being provided which was a disappointment. Of course you could spend extra money to do these activities off site if you wished. The beach had copious amounts of seaweed. The resort hires teams of men to constantly rake up the seaweed and they work so hard - but if you get into the water you are going to be stepping on a great deal of it. It was not a pleasant ocean experience. I mainly stayed on land or took advantage of the pools. Visiting the dolphins and manatees was a lovely daily experience. That is a great feature of the resort. The spa was lovely. If you have the time, definitely visit. VIP services will offer you discounts for this. To conclude, this is an average resort. It's not going to blow your socks off. It's not going to be the worst place you've ever visited. Side note - during our stay we were offered resort credit if we attended a session for the Unlimited Vacation Club. We were shuttled to the Secrets Resort and given a sales pitch for an "exclusive" vacation club deal. Basically they wanted us to prepay for 30 years of vacations. I would not recommend signing up for this club. Be cautious.

Great place for families with kids. Love the Explorer's kids club. Our four year old girl loved the Kids club as well. They took care of her and she had so much fun. Great service and friendly staff. Food is good and lots to choose from. We stayed in the Dolphin view room and it was spacious and beautiful.

We just returned from a week at this resort yesterday. Travel : April 2 - 9 2019 Group: 8 adults, 2 children OUR BACKGROUND: We are a well travelled couple, travelling 3 - 4 times a year (mix of all inclusives, land and cruise travel) Resort Travel: Palladiums (3), Rius (3), Bahia (1) Sandals (1), Couples (1), Azuls (1), Barcelo (1). We are in our mid 30's, travelling with another couple our age, and our parents, and two children (boy 6 and girl almost 3). We booked via Air Transat, with their Deal of the Day Room, flew out of Hamilton and paid 1310.00 pp. ARRIVAL: We were quickly greated once off our bus from the airport (which was just over an hour with two stops prior to our resort - beer and margaritas were served on the bus for $3.00). The bell hop took our luggage and navigated us to the lobby. Since we arrived early our rooms were not yet ready, but we were prepared for that, and went to grab some lunch prior to hitting the pool. ROOMS: 244 - 2nd floor, mid resort facing kids pool and oceanview. When our rooms were ready we were pleasantly surprised. It was a very spacious room, including the bathroom. It was extremely clean, and I didn't notice any significant flaws. Maybe if I really focused on the grout, or tiles I would have noticed something upone closer inspection, but nothing that really screamed out at me. It was cleaned every day twice a day, and the fridge was also topped up with water, corona, and soft drinks. THe balcony was also a great size, we had breakfast out there from room service in the mornings. LUNCH RESTAURANTS Seaside Grill - We unfortunately were really disspointed in this lunch venue. Hubby and I prefer a la cartes for lunch. We are admittedly not big on buffets. When we booked this was adverised as an off menu lunch service. Our first day of arrival it was off menu, but the whole resort was out of chicken. I am not sure why, I would assume perhaps it was not to peoper standards (the resort received chicken on Thursday). After our first day this venu went strictly to a buffet style venue. We had tacos from here as it was being served by a staff member (beef, fish, calamari and after Thursday chicken). They had all the toppings to build your own tacos, the fish were really good which says a lot os we are not big on fish. The chafer dishes were filled with potatoes, or rice, ribs or chicken wings, and pasta. (IMHO it was very limited - but the tacos were good). You can also ask for ice cream, usually two options everyday. I wish they had more consistency, Sometiems they had vanilla, sometimes they didn't. They seemed to rotate from choclate, vanilla and cocnut. Barefoot Grill - We ate here most days for lunch. We enjoyed the pizza - which we had for lunch most days. I had a chesseburger the one day which I also enjoyed, but I went to have on on our last day and there was no burgers. The kids loved the hot dogs. Buffet - We did not eat here for lunches or dinners. As mentioned earlier we are not huge on buffet meals. I did eat here a few mornings for breakfast. It is a smaller buffet, but it makes sense as it is a smaller resort. The made to order omlets and eggs were very good. As was the french toast in the kids section. I also enjoyed the fresh fruit paticularly the pineapple and mango. As, other reviews and comments have mentioned, the "sausages" are hot dogs, and bacon is hit miss, we found it usually came out later in the breakfast service. TIP: My sister in law often was able to get bacon by asking our waiter. I can take or leave bacon so it wasn't a huge deal for me. DINNER RESTAURANTS Portofino (Italina): 5/5 We ate here 3 times during our week stay. We found this restaurant to have the best food and service out of them all. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Paticularly the Fillet , Arrabatia and Carbonara (the special one night - they were often two specials each night). They also had some nice liquers for after dinner. El Patio (Mexican): 4/5 We also thoroughly enjoyed our meals here (we ate here twice during our stay). I had the chicken fajitas, and the taco el pastor that are made to order at the appetizer buffet were also tasty. Other members of our group had Shrimp Chimichongas which they also enjoyed. I wish they had a few more different options like Chicken Mole, or a skirt steak/chorizo with chimmichurri. Hence the loss of a point, Service was also very attenetive. I love mayan coffees and was happy to see they offered them at this restaurant. Oceana (Seafood): 1/5 Hubby and I are not big seafood fans, but a few in our group were and the menu had a fillet. Unfortunately, this was by far our worst food and service experience on the resort. Our waters were not refilled all meal. All of our steaks were undergcooked, we ordered medium and a couple were completely raw and cold in the middle. This was the first time we had experienced anything undercooked. It honestly was a completel fail and dissapointment as the ambance was nice. Seaside Grill Dinner (Steakhouse): 4/5 Amazing service, we really enjoyed the appetizers. Our main dishes were good. Our waiter took our orders perfectily as there were a few modification requests to dishes, and everything came out as requested. Gohan (Sushi): We didn't eat here, as mentioned we aren't big on seafood, but other members in our group did really enjoyed the meal. Bars 5/5: We received impecable service at all bars, honestly it rivaled with the service we received on cruises/Couples/Sandals. We were truly amazed! After one night in Desires, the bartender knew what we drank! We returend the second night, and when we got to the bar, he looked at each one of us and called out or drinks - Bud Light - Cabernet - Stoli and Cranberry. Very impressive after one night. The regular bartender at the family pool was also very efficient. He often joked with the kids, remembered our drinks, and always seemed happy and had a smile. Alcohol: We were happy to see Stoli, Smirnoff, Absolute (flavors), Bacardi (Dark White, and Solaro (which my father in law really enjoyed), Jim Beam, and Jack Daniels. For Canadians there is not a lot of Rye (Canadian Mist), we find that to be a tough one to find at most all inclusives. This resort had some of the best variety we have ever seen for beer: Bud, Bud Light, Modelo, Montejo, Carona Light in cans, and Modelo Negro on tap. ENTERTAINMENT Entertainment for Kids: This is one of the reasons we chose this resort, so our neice and nephew had a lot of activities they could choose to participate in. Cookie and cake decorating, bull riding, zip lining, movies and popcron and candy bar on the beach, scavanger hunts, rock climbing, minute to win it contests, and the list goes on. All the activities are geared to kid participation. The entertainment staff was great with kids. Entertainment for Adults - was a bit lacking - but we chose this resort for the kids. They did end up having the foam party in the adults pool, which was a blast!! They had to close the kids pool due to an "Accident" they had it opened back up later in the day. Iit was moved to the adults pool so us adults had a fun party that afternoon. THere is beach volleyball and abike rides. We loved going for walks into the marina and town each morning. Other Comments: If you are a larger group it is challenging to all sit together at the restaurants (we were a group of 10). Which I understand as some venus are smaller. They did their best to accomdate or sit us at tables close to one another. It was my in laws anniversary on the Friday, and it was the only meal we really wanted to try and be all together for one night. We tried to arrange it through conceirge and they said it may cost us 100.00 US, but they said they had to look into it and would get back to us. When we went back they wanted 25.00 pp, kids were free (200.00US), and that $$ would go towards bottles of wine. We turned down the offer, as we thought it was a bit much. The day of their anniversay we requested to see a wine list at Seaside, Wilbert helped us and asked what we were looking for we explained our situation. As we were looking to buy a nice bottle of wine, even two for our parents anniverary dinner but we wanted to all sit together. He took care of everything for us. Called Portifino, got us reservations for 10 on the terrace, and arranged for our bottles of wine. BEACH: The beach is a cove as many should be aware if you look into the resort, but it is very pictureque. There was very little seaweed the first 5 days. Then the wind came in and the waves picked up which caused an absolute abundance brought into shore. Completely out of their control. The workers truly were working extremely hard the second day they brought in more reinforcements and made quite a bit of progress, and the wind/waves settled. It didn't put any of us off. You wouldn't be able to swim in the ocean, but you could definately still enjoy the sand on the beach, and lay out. Due to our carribean travel we have been a bit spoiled for beaches. Overall: Would we go back? We would love to go back for the staff, and drinks were good. One of the few AI where i could drink the wine and enjoyed the chamapgne. But there were dissapointments with food variations and options. some items were outstanding, and others missed the mark. Especially with the no a la carte lunch, no chicken the first couple days (that being said i would rather not eat chicken than eat bad chicken if that is why they weren't serving it), and no hamburgers the last day. We made due with what we had, and by no means starved but i wouldn't be able to do more than a week. I will mention the 3 members of our group did have some GI issues, no one lost a day. Not certain if it was food born illness, or changes in diet/drinking, heat, or a combination. No days were lost. The service was impecable. I would highly recommend it for families. They truly have a great program for kids. I would also say it would be great for people with mobility issues as there were may ramps, and elevators, and a smaller resort. Very excessable friendly.

Relaxing Trip

My boyfriend and I traveled to Puerto Aventuras in early April. After we booked the trip, I read reviews and got very nervous about our decision. I was worried for no reason! I have no complaints about the resort, the staff, or the food. The resort was clean and while there were some areas that would benefit from some updates, overall the resort was great. The room was pretty, the bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, and the shower was spacious. The bathroom was a bit dark which made make up application difficult. The toilet was a little hard to flush, but once we figured out it's little quirk there were no issues. We ate in most of the restaurants and enjoyed most meals. There was one meal at the World Cafe that I didn't particularly enjoy, but I am a pretty picky eater. I don't drink much alcohol, but felt comfortable ordering alcohol free drinks in all but one instance. And in that instance, the bartender was definitely joking and I as in a bad mood. The beach is pretty small and the water is shallow. My boyfriend quite happily played beach volleyball everyday while I read in the sun. The staff encouraged everyone to join in, but quickly remembered the people who played regularly as well as the people who didn't. They were all very friendly. We got massages and were given a two for one discount that was much appreciated. In the evenings, we walked to the nearby marina to look around. I felt safe with him, but would not have gone without him. Many of the sidewalks are dark. Use the buddy system if you go after dark! During the day it felt very safe and made for a nice run/walk.

We stayed for two weeks, a little long for a small resort, but -

The hotel employees made our vacation great. Just ask and you shall receive. Ruby our concierge did an amazing job. Every problem solved, every request fulfilled. The bar staff were top notch. No need to repeat your drink request, after a couple times they remember exactly what you want. The wait staff in the restaurants, also excellent. Need something or don't see it, just ask. It was almost like having your own private crew to look after you. I can't get over how they all remember everyone's name. The hotel is gracefully starting to show it's age. The food is great, a good variety and lots of everything. The steaks ran out one night in one of the restaurants but that is what happens when everyone orders steak! The entertainment was outstanding and a great deal of the credit goes to Giovanni ( the energizer bunny ). Kudos to you. I could go on & on but it sufices to say we would go back in a heartbeat.

Hubands pre 50th birthday surprise trip

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews about this resort. The staff were amazing and they made my husband pre 50th birthday trip very special. What makes this resort is the people, they make guests feel very special and give guests a memorable holiday. They were very friendly and attentive, excellent service everywhere on the property and gave us a great welcome on arrival. We had the dinner service on the beach and the waiting staff made it very special even with a beautiful birthday cake, Plenty of beach and pool chairs – no need to run down first thing in the morning to save chairs! We got to try the oceana, the Portofino Italian and the seaside grill and the food was excellent and no reservations were required. Room service was prompt and excellent – the food we ordered for the breakfast room service was excellent. Lots of clean towels and the resort overall was kept very clean. The entertainment team was brilliant and great fun, Giovani and the team really did their best to make the resort events and shows fun and entertaining. The acrobatic show, the tenors show and the beatles tribute band in the lobby were great. There was a brilliant carribbean show by the pool with a fun party in the lobby afterwards. We did the dolphin encounter and swimming with dolphins which was superb. Although some facilities are old and I hear that the resort is being updated next year which is a good idea, we would return if we ever get a chance. Thank you all for a great 6 days.
