Terrific Family Vacation
bretamon, Denver, Colorado

We had a terrific family vacation here. I would go as far as to say one of our very best. The beach was terrific, very clean and some what protected so swimming was good, even with our 10 year old daughter. The pools were fantastic, service was better than I ever expected. The constant activities and constant attention from employees are what really made the trip! Swimming with the Dolphins was just one of the many activities we enjoyed. Offered free of charge every night was some sort of entertainment. Daily activities and pool games included beach volleyball, short sailing excursions, Zumba classes, they even set up a zip line on the beach!.. How cool is that! Above all I have to say there seems to be a very genuine caring attitude from the employees. The hustle is not on, although I did tip often to the servers and so on, you never felt like they expected it. One absolutely outstanding employee is Jorge.. He seems to be the cruise director if you will. His overwhelmingly friendly and caring attitude toward me and my family made our trip. All I can say to Dreams management is you better do your best to hold on to this young man, he is destined for great things. ! All this said and we were very happy.. the food could be a little better. Specifically the dinner restaurants. Surprisingly El Patio the Mexican Food restaurant was not good at all.. But hey.. the constantly flowing drinks, all breakfasts and lunches were good.. We found a couple other close by restaurants that were very good and that seemed to be a good fit for us. We were there for the experience, not just to squeeze every meal into the hotel all inclusive basket. The location is perfect. Super secure as it is located in a gated community which made my wife feel safe. The fire show on the beach is amazing! This place is well managed and you can tell right from the start. Other employees worth a mention were Julio at the front door and Carlos at the front desk. Both offered excellent service. We will be back! That is a lot for me to say as I like exploring new areas and so on. We have stayed at many high end resorts over the years and I can be pretty tough. Your spending a lot of money to be there and it all better be pretty good, I get that. This place deserves and earned my 5 star review.. B, M and Av.. from Colorado.. see you soon

Just spent 11 nights at this hotel. Lovely hotel, very friendly staff and a great selection of bars and restaurants. Beach location is lovely and it is used for evening events as well as the usual daytime beach activities. New year beach party and buffet was truly magnificent, the staff worked amazingly hard to bring this together and make it a huge success. We chose a dolphin view room and it was well worth the extra, and we did enjoy watching the dolphins in the pool. It impressed me that all inclusive did mean just that - it included room service, the room mini bar and wifi throughout the resort (some, or all of which in other resorts we have been charged for as extras). We found the food to be great - obviously there were things that were not to our liking but we always found something that was good - the seaside grill prepared some excellent grilled fish and the steak in the Italian restaurant was excellent and cooked exactly how I wanted it. I liked the fact that there was a separate adults only pool were we were looked after by one of the nicest waitresses at the resort (Dulce), for whom nothing was too much trouble. All of the staff were very helpful and as I say Dulce was exceptional but I also must mention Alberto - at the Seaside Bar during the evening - Cheers Alberto you looked after us fantastically well every evening. If you are considering trips out from the resort I recommend an evening walk around the marina at the back of the hotel, you will see some great wild life (pelicans waiting hopefully for titbits from the fishing trips) and the enormous selection of marine animals at the Ocean Dreams centre - Dolphins, sea lions, manatees and oh the variety of fish is incredible! Further a field I can recommend a visit to the Cenotes - this was the highlight of our trip - swimming in underground caverns was truly stunning. Akumel beach is incredible - snorkelling above the coral and watching wild turtles and rays below us - a definite experience not to be missed. We did swim with dolphins which again was a fabulous experience although I do feel that this is much too commercial and very expensive - my hope is that some of the cost goes into conservation programmes as it is very expensive - still I am glad I've done it, can't say I would do it again though. A further trip was to Sian Ka'an which again is incredible but a long way to go from Puerto Aventura - but we did see nesting magnificent frigate birds, wild dolphins and giant turtles in the lagoon which again is a once in a lifetime experience. We did have some negatives about the hotel and that is mainly the shortage of sunbeds, which is not entirely down to the hotel - we witnessed guests claiming multiple sunbeds (not even sitting in them for a single second) - in order to reserve a bed on the alternative side of the pool to where they were sat! (presumably to move on to later in the day when the sun moves around) Most sunbeds around the pools/ beach etc. remained devoid of humans just their possessions to stake a claim on the bed - Perhaps a policy of an empty bed for more than an hour will be cleared for someone else to use - Being such a friendly hotel I am sure they don't want to upset any of their guests so it could lead to difficult encounters. Other guests complained of dampness in the rooms - it is not something we experienced but please be warned you are visiting a jungle area and it is extremely humid - thankfully the air conditioning was excellent but that itself does cause condensation - so you may well find things feel a little damp - its normal for that area - a quick airing on the balcony solves the problem very quickly. All told we had a fabulous holiday, were treated like royalty and have some amazing memories to reflect on. I would definitely go to Mexico again - I would definitely stay in a Dreams hotel again I would just like to see a different area of Mexico next time as I am sure there is lots more to see.

Horrible beach with rocky bottom, dirty unclean sand. Smelly adult pool with broken glass. Horrible dress code for breakfast and lunch,I only had with me two cover up see through and was not allowed in for breakfast. I ended up wearing my yoga pants all week. Food selection at the buffet was horrendous, nothing to eat, I don't understand how this place being rated so good, don't believe others what they say! We where at many other places in Cancun and Rivera Maya but this resort is the worst ever!!!

Good time with the family

So this was our first trip taking our kids (all boys). Resorts are fairly limited when taking three kids anywhere and My husband and I enjoy smaller resorts - so we chose Dreams Puerto Aventuras. The rooms were nice and clean, staff was very friendly and the food was so-so. The Portofino restaurant was AMAZING this is a must, during the day your best best bet is burgers and pizza at the grill by the mini golf - everything else was just ok. Breakfast was very busy in the buffet but decent. There was one we didn't go to on the adults side and the El Patio Mexican restaurant was so-so. The Seaside Grill we only had lunch at and it was a very long wait and the food was just ok. Although, the beach is small - it is very nice and the water has so much sea life to explore! The kids had a great time snorkelling. As with most resorts, get up early and get a chair. My advice is to get one up on the point passed the dive shop. Nice breeze for hot days and you won't be disturbed by the daily activities going on. Which leads me to my first con. At least 5 days out of the 7 we were there - they would begin clearing the beach mid-afternoon to set up for supper and by clear the beach I mean move all the chairs and the people. This was a bit annoying since you come to Mexico to lay on a beach and then by 2pm they are forcing you off it. I'm still unsure of why they couldn't have found a better solution to this. This is why we started sitting on the 'ledge' passed the dive shop because we were never bothered over there. The dive shop guys were great, visit them and book a trip! They have free scuba tryouts in the pool once in the morning and afternoon. Kids thought that was good. As far as the dolphinarium goes, it was a great experience. However, I think you are best to book right at the dolphin place and not through an agent. I booked at the agent in the lobby (Amstar maybe?) but I think it would have been a bit cheaper just to book directly at the dolphin place. They seemed to have better exchange rates than the hotel. We didn't participate in the Explorer Club, at 7, 8 and 10 my kids weren't interested in it at all. They did however do the water activities everyday with Jorje and loved it. My second con is that although the resort was small enough if something was going on, you usually knew it - there seemed to be a lack of information posted about what was going on and what they did have posted didn't seem to be updated very often. They had an app you could download and have some Daily info on it - but the last thing I want to do on vacation is carry my phone around and check schedules. Overall it was a nice vacation. Not sure we would go back, not because we didn't have a good time but next time the kids will probably want more activities to do like some water slides or something.
