The whole place is kept clean and tidy by such a hardworking ground staff maids .The staff was always so helpful and you must eat in the Japanese its such a fun experience. The animation team are fun but not pushy in getting you to do things if you would rather watch ( Justin Bieber ) as he is know is a great lad. We love this place and have met some great people from all over the world here and will be back .Thank you to everyone who works there . More>

We just came back from 7 amazing days at this wonderful resort. First, you cannot beat this beach, which is why we went to Punta cana. It was my first time, my husbands second time. We are Mexico lovers but he really wanted me to see this beach and it was amazing! The pros: the beach! We walked along way on the beach and did not see anywhere that looked as nice..it is a very wide part of the beach. Staff, service, rooms and the grounds are all great The Cons: the food was not great but I cannot compare it to other resorts in Punta Cana. They give you their best...it is Dominican. We could always find something to eat,not a problem. Hints an tips: go platinum, worth every penny...we were in suite 777 - two units from the beach and two from the platinum lounge which was great. The platinum beach area was wonderful! The other benefit was making reservations for dinner. A huge bonus. Check in and out were quick and easy and the platinum staff were lovely and helpful. I could not choose this resort if you cannot do platinum We took the snorkel/party boat from Carlos at the water sports place, they come around in Red shirts, it was really fun! We booked a reservation at another princess resort (free if you are platinum). Le Petite Fondue...is was really nice, highly recommend doing this, they drove us and picked us up...food was great! We enjoyed the Japenise restaurant, fun show! And the filet at the steak house was decent, better than expected. The seafood and Chinese were ok, again, they are giving us the best they can, not quite what we are used to, but ok. The poolbar was fun for later in the day but the water was very warm,we like to end a great day at the beach with going there for drinks and to talk to people...we met some awesome people and had a great time! We did bring a lot of one dollar bills for tipping...you will want to tip, they are all very hard workers and appreciate the tips. We did a lot of research about what to pack etc...it is hot in the summer, really we wore bathing suites and light summer dresses and shorts for dinner...don't bother bringing a lot of clothes. I do recommend bringing some powdered gaideraid- if you don't feel well or get dehydrated it helps a lot! We crossed the street and went to the shops not much to buy but the people were fun, yes they got a little pushy, but we just have a good time with them and buy a few things we don't need! We went to the casino...they drove us there and home even though it is a 5 minute walk! The grounds are spectacular! I would recommend this resort if you are looking for an amazing beach, beautiful surroundings, a nice clean room, a mix of fun and relaxation and don't care too much about the food. More>

Not what it's cracked up to be

We just came back from a week in this resort. Avoid at all costs to stay in the rooms adjoining the lobby. Rooms on the resorts are way better! Food is decent and grounds are clean. Main pool is quite dirty despite huge amounts of chlorine. Most salespeople stayed away from me and my family so we were okay. Kids club is great. Only issue is that the animators don't animate. Also, no lifeguard on duty which means you have to keep an eye on your kids at all times. Also, animation for adults seemed to be lacking as well. Not sure I would return. The locals make up quite a bit of the guests here so keep that in mind. Still, it was enjoyable as vacations are always great. If you are picky...this place may not be for you as many of the people staying with us were unhappy with their choice. Cheers! More>

Relaxing Girls Trip
Vino08_13, Halton Hills, Canada
Wed Jul 13 06:08:26 EDT 2016
5 of us turned 40 this year and decided to take a few days for a girls trip. Our only request was to RELAX and that's exactly what we did! We picked the Bavaro Princess based on a recommendation from a friend. and the resort suited our needs just fine. I will point out that we had narrowed our choices to Jamaica or D.R as we had all visited Mexico a number of times, and D.R won out over Jamaica mainly due to the price. We visited for 5 days, with 3 adults in one room and 2 in another. The resort is only about 20-25 min bus drive from the airport (which was a whole other story - be prepared for lots of line ups when you arrive), and is HUGE. I prefer smaller resorts, but we managed with the Bavaro, and the trolley service that runs through the resort is frequent and pretty much starts and stops wherever you ask the driver to. The rooms have a funny lay out - the bed is on an elevated area, two or three steps up from the main floor, and since there were three of us we had one 'king' bed, and one single cot on the lower level. We were going to take turns on the cot, but the noise from next door (strangers, not the other 2 girls travelling with us), was ridiculous, so by the third night we all squeezed into the king bed. There was actually more than enough room for 3 adults so it wasn't too bad. It is your typical resort type room - I find no matter where you go, the bathroom privacy is limited. Our shower also leaked so badly that we would have to put whatever towels were left down on the floor or the water would literally spill out into the dressing area. There was a 2-3 inch gap at the top of our doorway that we would also have to stuff with a towel to keep the bugs out, but I will comment on that a bit later. I found the resort so big, that we always found it to be a bit of a maze when trying to find our room either coming from the beach or the lobby. We were in building 41 which was a decent distance from the beach and set in between some of the other buildings so we always misjudged our route back. The grounds are very well kept, with lots of foliage and 'wildlife' closer to the lobby. We tried the pool on the first day, but the weather was so hot and there wasn't any breeze at the pool, so after an hour we moved to the beach and only went to the beach for the remainder of the trip. The beach was beautiful - we never had a problem getting loungers or palapas, but that being said, I got eaten alive by sand fleas!! I've travelled numerous times to the Caribbean and Mexico and have never had an issue with bug bites, but apparently Punta Cana flies really like me. And I was the only one of the five of us to get bitten! So definitely pack some bug spray - of course it was the one thing I forgot to bring and paid for it! The food at the resort is decent - the breakfast at the main buffet is typical - omelette station (which actually used real eggs and not an egg mixture, which was nice), juices, pastries, various meat dishes, etc. There was a crepe station that a couple of the girls visited daily but I never tried. We tried the beach grill a couple of times for lunch - nothing fancy, mainly burgers, fries, hot dogs, etc. Two or three of the days had a special beach grill set up which was always good. There were a number of a la cartes, but we went back to the Italian restaurant 3 times because the food was excellent. We also tried the Japanese (which I would definitely recommend), but I can't comment on the other restaurants. Since we were there for a few days just to regroup and relax, we really didn't do much else besides lay on the beach, eat, and drink - which was exactly what we had intended to do! I see people comment on the wifi at resorts - wifi is only available in the lobby and is slow. One of the girls in our group rented a modem to use and it functioned well, even at the beach. When I travel for relaxation, wifi is the last thing I care about. I actually prefer NOT to have to be online every waking minute, but if it's what you're looking for, rent the modem or you won't be happy with the wifi service. A few girls did get a massage at the spa and really enjoyed it. We weren't really hassled by vendors on the beach - a simple 'no thank you' and they would move on. The service was good, and we made sure to tip the wait staff trekking our drinks through the hot sand in the 35 C weather. I didn't find a lot of the staff overly friendly and outgoing as other people have commented, but we did have two regular waiters on the beach who were always friendly and outgoing. I only gave the Bavaro 3/5 because I wasn't 'wowed' by it. I've seen it marked as a 4+ or 5 star on various travel sites/agencies, but I have stayed at a lot of 4 and 5 star resorts with much nicer facilities. I will admit I find the nicest resorts are always in Mexico, and any of the islands (Jamaica, D.R, Cuba), just don't normally come as close to Mexican standards (like the gap in the construction of our doorway), which I do attribute partly to it being mainland, and not an island. Would I revisit Punta Cana? Absolutely. I would likely try a different resort, but for the price and what we were looking for, the Bavaro Princess worked. And one other thing....we did have a fairly large cockroach in our room. In all the years I've travelled to tropical destinations, this is my first encounter with one, and luckily I didn't see it. We actually figure it came up through the drain in the corner of the bathroom, and one of the girls has no fear with that sort of thing so it was taken care of quickly (thank God). So just an FYI to keep the drains covered. We really didn't see any other bugs (besides my friendly sand fleas which I didn't see either), and bug sightings are usually the norm in these hot destinations. If you are looking for a decent resort for some R&R, I would recommend Bavaro Princess. The recommendation also came from a friend who has visited multiple times with her husband and two children, but it's not a resort I would take my kids back to. I also wasn't looking for the kids activities since they weren't with me, so maybe there is more for kids than what I saw. We also didn't do the Platinum upgrade so I can't comment on that, but we didn't miss it either. More>

Another Fantastic Stay!

This was our second time back and we booked platinum for 2 weeks. Once again the staff was amazing. Quite impressed how many of them remembered us and were willing to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Beach and weather were great had maybe 20 minutes of rain in 2 weeks. Food was good never had a problem finding anything we liked. Drinks were always great, they definitely dont skimp on the booze. These people at the resorts work very hard and will bend over backwards for you, from the bartender's, cleaning staff and ground maintenance crews. Dont hesitate to tip they do deserve it. We will be looking to book again in the near future. This place is paradise. More>
