The staff was very friendly, pleasant and many times humorous and were a delight to be around. They certainly earned our respect and we truly valued their hard work and dedication. The resort itself could use some updating and maintenance. The beach had quite a bit of seaweed at the water's edge which kept us from fully enjoying it. Also we did not appreciate being approached or "harassed" by certain members who were very persistent in trying to get us to invest in premium vacation upgrades. We were promised certain miscellaneous items for our time and never received any items.

We went on this trip with friends so we had a good time regardless but there were several issues we had with our stay that have caused us to not want to stay at this resort again. #1 - our key to our room stopped working 5 different times during our stay. Luckily we were close to our friends rooms a couple of the times because I had to use the restroom and it's quite a trek from our room to a public bathroom and the trolleys are not dependable at all times of the day. Twice when this happened we were returning to our room for the night and had to go to the lobby to get new keys. At first they tried to tell us that it was because we kept our key by our phone/credit card but then found out it was an issue with the lock itself. Super frustrating. #2 - the service. Every morning at breakfast we had to ask for water or coffee at the buffet. We were never greeted or asked if we needed anything. We got a letter the day before we left saying that the workers in the DR were going on strike so I don't know if that affected things or what. Our room and one of the other rooms had no hot water for half the trip. Our minibar wasn't filled the 2nd day we were there and since you can't drink the water, having the bottles in your room is a must. #3 - the food was not good. The Italian restaurant was not very Italian. It's not clear what or how much you could order. We couldn't get into the Teppenyaki restaurant the entire time. The 'romantic' dinner at Liceys was not good or romantic. The hotel itself is beautiful. The grounds and beaches were beautiful. But this is not a luxury resort. Everytime we talked to the staff about the key or the water they made you feel stupid as if you just didn't know how to use a key card or a shower. No apologies or offering for the inconvenience. We love Punta Cana but will be skipping this resort in the future.

This is from my most recent published TripAdvisor Review: I was hoping my 100th TripAdvisor review would be a big celebration of an experience that was nothing less than spectacular. Unfortunately for us, last week’s stay was a smidge past average but definitely NOT a “good” experience, overall. The best parts about our stay was: 1) the AMSTAR (Apple’s DR company?) rep, Ellina 2) the wait staff at restaurants and bar areas were great! (Extra tips might have influenced their kind attentiveness!) 3) the fact we did not pay an arm and a leg for a so-so experience (but we still grit our teeth a little when we think of even paying for such meh experience). If you’re thinking the casino is “on-site” as the name of the resort indicates, it’s not. It’s off the resort, across the street. We’ve done all-inclusives before, so we had some expectations (if your travel package comes with charter flights-EXPECT TO BE DELAYED-six “charter flights” later and NOT ONE has been on time YET! Not a half our or hour late, we’re talking a couple hours to 3 1/2 hours delayed). When we checked in (after a long day of delayed travel), Remy (front desk associate) was so polite and helpful. When reviewing the resort, the map of the resort, restaurants that do “not need reservations but you can always get a reservation if you’re a platinum guest”-we asked, “What would the cost be to upgrade to Platinum?” (Other than close proximity to the beach-a vendor-free private beach-and 24 hour room service that’s “free”-other room type guests pay for room service-I’m still not sure what “perks” there are to upgrading. Remy went behind he wall that separates the front desk from the person who apparently makes all the decisions and returned to tell us all the platinum rooms were booked (no beach view/direct walkway access) but they’d send staff in to make our regular room “just like platinum” and add nice robes and house shoes we could wear while we stayed (no differences in the structure of the rooms, apparently?) it’d be a $700 fee to upgrade to platinum for our Sunday evening to Friday morning stay, to stay in the same regular room but have a different color bracelet and a nice, rented robe/house shoes outfit. No thank you, Remy. We stayed at a Grand Riviera Princess (Playa del Carmen) in July of 2013 and had some expectations of an increased price; for our 8 day, 7 night stay there, our platinum upgrade cost was a little more than $250. I dug out our old receipts just to make sure I wa

Large Room but uncomfortable beds
TIMOTHY M.
Jul 25 2018
The room was very nice and spacious but the beds were totally uncomfortable and hard as a rock. I asked for a topper and they brought a thin mattress pad that did not help. We have stayed in All inclusive hotels for 20+ years and this was the worst food I have ever had. We only did the buffet so I am not sure about the specialty restaurants. The service was non existent. We had to get everything ourselves which was fine but they often ran out of glasses for beverages. The beach was a seaweed mess and they tried to clean it up all week but they just used their hands and trash bags to there was a 20 ft wide area of seaweed as you entered the beach. Very gross and stinky

Hotel and staff were excellent! The grounds and overall appearance were beautiful! The only downside was by Mother Nature with all the seaweed on the beach shore. The resort did everything they could to clear it.

Roaches
TRUPTI P.
Jul 22 2018
I found roaches on my last day of my vacation. When I advised hotel staff during checkout they simply stated they will spray “again.” No sorry no apology no nothing. Could not provide real milk for a toddler who went hungry and cried to sleep several nights. Lots of bug bites and four out of 15 people are sick with travelers diarrhea due to unsanitary conditions in buffet. Hostesses for restaurants very rude. Italian restaurant closed for four days. Lobby had no power one day but then reopened for buffet later how did they store the food that they served to all the people without power? WiFi terrible and not available. Three friends left the resort and booked elsewhere due to terrible conditions. Leaky rooms, hair in tubs on first day of check in, toilet clogged. Just terrible and we will never return again. The hotel staff is very rude those that speak English but the non speaking people were tipped generously from our family. This hotel is poorly run and has no regards for children let alone adults. I will never go back there again. The trolley system takes forever and the geological park is nothing but a smelly dump. Nightly entertainment was terrible and even the day activities were bare to minimum. Returned to America and had to go to a doctor for medicine for food poisoning and travelers diarrhea for me and my husband. Worst trip ever! I have pictures to prove all Of this. Never again.

Great family vacation, weather was perfect and the Platinum upgrade made the trip! we had access to a private lounge and area on the beach which had full bar and waiter service for the platinum guests. Had a large seaweed day post a rain storm which made the beach a bit hard to navigate but this has nothing to do with the resort which was great! there were two adult pools and one childrens pool, nice sized pools but would have been nice to have a bit larger pool or pool area as seating at peak times became impossible although we generally beat the peak times and had seating most days of the trip.

Fantastic Holiday

We had a great family holiday at this hotel in July. The rooms were beautiful and cleaned to a very high standard. The food was really good with such a wide choice, two themed buffet restaurants a Steak house, Chinese, Italian, Fish restaurant and Japanese. The grounds and gardens were immaculately kept with lovely wildlife. A beautiful beach with a beach restaurant and two pools. The only slight negative is the evening entertainment could be a bit better. Lettie from the Animation team was lovely very friendly and chatty and not pushy at all. The beach vendors and excursion people were also very pleasant and didn't hassle you if you just politely said no thank you. Wilfred the waiter at the beach restaurant and Japanese gave us exceptional service, he was very friendly and made sure we always had plenty of drinks! We loved this hotel and really couldn't fault it at all. Thank you Bavaro Princess it's a big thumbs up from us!

Needs improvement

Pros: -Rooms are very good -Bar service at lobby is very good -Casino and Casino Disco are great Cons: -Pool is very small for a hotel this size. It becomes overcrowded and unless you arrive very early in the morning you won't be able to get umbrella chairs. -Tram service that moves you around hotel needs improvement. Very often I had to wait for 20 to 25 min for it to arrive. Even when you ask for transportation after-hours over the phone it would arrive 10 to 15 min after requested time. -They don't have servers at the pool going around bringing drinks to customers. You have to get up and go for your drinks. -The water sport activities that are included are provided by a third party company, not the directly by the hotel. The quality is low, missing equipment and low availability. For example, only 2 canoes. -In the weekends the resort seems to become very crowded with locals which is not a bad thing except that the resort is not prepared to handle itself at capacity and therefore the service suffers considerably. Crowded buffets , crowded pool and not enough service staff. -The beach is infected with seaweed. This is not hotel's fault but because of this everybody uses the pool instead, which is very small for the huge amount of people. In the weekends is even worst. -Customer service staff doesn't go above and beyond to meet customer needs. At least in my experience they won't facilitate something unless is included in your package. -Overall the food/drink service staff try to do their best but they are understaffed. The installations are old and beaten up. The pool is too small. In my opinion if you will stay more than 4 days then save up a little more and go to another resort in the same area with better infrastructure.

Overall a decent resort

We were here for 7 days the last week of July 2018, there were many things that we like and also dislike about this resort but overall we had an enjoyable stay here. - Resort size: It's a big resort, our family requested 2 rooms close to each other and we were put in the hotel complex at the very front of the resort which is a very long walking distance to the beach, about .8 km (1/2 mile) so we only walked once the first time and used the shuttle for rest of the stay. During the evening rush hours (dinner time) the shuttle always got full after a couple of stops, a lot of people just gave up and walked during dinner hours. The resort should increase the # of shuttles during the dinner hours. - Room: rooms are bigger that most other resorts. Even though most of the furniture are old and outdated but they're functional and still reasonably comfortable. The good thing about our rooms in the front hotel section is that it's located by the front lobby, so very they're very conveniently close to the main buffet and the theater, so no need to catch the shuttle in order to eat at the main buffet, or see the entertainment at night, or just crashing out in the lobby if you need to catch up with email using their wifi. - Restaurants: During the week we stayed there, 6 other restaurants were open besides the main buffet. 3 of them are located by the beach and the other 3 are in the middle of the resort. However, since they're all operated on a first-come first-serve basis, you either have to show up 1/2 hour before they open or wait more than an hour to get a table. We ate at Bella Pasta (Italian restaurant) once, waited 1.5 hrs, the food was ok, not great but not bad, nice atmosphere and good service. We also ate at Chopin once, nice view with tables by the pond, but the buffet choices are very limited. El Gaucho is convenient place for lunch if you want to camp out at the beach all day, we never had to wait for a table during lunch, but also a much smaller buffet that the main buffet at the lobby. We didn't even try to get into the other 3 restaurants as there's always a long waiting list to get in. So we ate at the main buffet most of the time because you can always get a table and there's quite a variety of options for food. - Beach and Pool: The great thing about the beach here is that it has plenty of chairs and shades on the beach so you can always find a comfortable place on the beach at any time, unlike most of other resorts I've been to where you get to the beach at 7 AM to get a chair. There were a lot of seaweed washed up on shore every morning, but still plenty of sand to enjoy, it's just the nature of the area, not sure why people complain so much about it. The main pool on the other hand is not big enough for a resort of this size, the main pool as well as other smaller pools are always packed with people, there were also a lot of people who got up early to put their towels on the chair sand went back to bed so it's almost impossible to find a chair there. We enjoyed the beach more anyway so it wasn't a big deal for us. Others: The resort's ground were well maintained and very clean. The gym was quite big for a resort, and well equipped with a staff there at all times. There's a free bus that take people to the mall in town, I believe you can catch one every hour on the hour. Free wifi at the lobby and also on the beach next to the reserved area for platinum guests. Advice: If you can't get a room near the beach, the main hotel section where we stayed would probably be best as it's conveniently closed to the lobby, the main buffet restaurant and also it's the first stop of the resort shuttle route. I would definitely return to this resort in the future.

We met friends here from the uk for a week. Rooms were a disaster to start with, our friends room had no hot water and had big leaks from the ceiling when the shower was on. after two days they finally got moved to another room. Our room had the same no hot water they had to rip ceiling down, it was fixed in a day though. The only wifi is in the main lobby which isn't good, you can ask to hire a hotspot for your room but they are very limited I managed to get one half way through the week. Grounds are lovely and food was average. Entertainment was poor . The pools are lovely and we had no problem getting a bed everyday.

Very Charming friendly resort

What I really was impressed by was the staff, they are very friendly and accommodating. Their restaurants are great, their entertainments are fun and is located close to town which I liked as well. The rooms are cozy, unfortunately the AC in our room wasn't that strong but the ceiling fan distributed the air to sleep comfortably. The resort is surrounded by beautiful trees, bushes, flowers etc. so make sure to bring bug repellant
