I have just returned today from this hotel, on arriving home I unpacked my case only to find that a dress that I had packed was missing. I had left my case open after packing the previous day and just added the last things that I had left out. I know for a fact that I packed this dress. I am really upset that the staff that I had been friendly with could do this to me. I have contacted the hotel by e mail but they have not replied to me yet. I was in room 3114 and various staff have c leaned this room so I am not blaming one person. It has really spoilt what was a nice holiday. My husband has had an item taken from a neighbouring hotel a few years ago, as my sister in law did when she was on holiday with us. this was a present for her granddaughter again taken from her case just before she was leaving. I am so upset about this at the time of writing this and feel I never want to visit Mexico again. Again please all be aware of what is happening at this hotel. More>

I feel that the facilities are good enough unlike some people here say, unless you are a snob perhaps? Resort is not super modern or polished but you get that rustic feel to it. Lovely rooms, nice resort set up. Buffet was delicious all the time and definitely can recommend a la carte Mexican and Italian! The beach is amazing, very good for nice long walks and runs if you're into that, ocean is beautiful and warm. We did parasailing and it was awesome. Very friendly staff, except animators team, they seem to be quite friendly with more local people, not so much with English speakers. We weren't approached once and felt a bit like outsiders, but just got on with our own things. Timeshare and membership sales people do hassle you to attend a presentation. We did it out of curiosity, had a nice time looking at the other hotel and member areas. However when we were back in the office it was a hard on sale, there were no brochures or proper charts, all was written on pieces of paper with different numbers coming up every time a new paper was whipped out, very fast aggressive talk, I really wanted to just get up and walk away! So unless you like to be pressurised for purchase, don't go to the presentation! More>

We stayed for a week between 13th June - 21st June, firstly please put into perspective the negative reviews, this is a reasonable priced hotel in Mexico, as with all destinations in the Caribbean, you're not paying for the room but the fantastic beaches, pool, good food, friendly people, that said the rooms were fine, always well cleaned & good facilities. The beach & pool areas are always kept clean, I can honestly say the team here work non stop around the clock to make sure it stays this way & do so with a smile :) The food & drink was plentiful, always lots to choose from at breakfast, lunch & dinner, The Mexican & The Italian are fab & the service was always good. All in all despite some rain we had a great, relaxing break, the entertainment team & all the staff work very hard to make sure everyone has a happy stay, even going the extra mile & streaming the England v Wales game when it wasn't on to.... Thanks all, we will definitely be back! More>

Came here for a family holiday with my nephew and brothers etc, such an excellent place that suits all ages. Could not fault all the staff from the cleaners to the bar staff to the entertainers, all provided good service and could tell they all loved their jobs! Would definitely come again and we were sad to leave. Thank you! More>

Me and my partner stayed for 10 nights (4th June - 14th June). Overall a pleasant stay, was apprehensive about going after reading some reviews but was pleasantly surprised. We didn't pay 5* prices so didn't expect a 5* hotel, I would say a basic 3* but great for the price. The rooms are small but the air conditioning worked perfectly, the room was spotlessly cleaned every day, mini bar restocked and the maid always left some decoration made of towels and comfy beds. No free wifi but if you walk 5 mins down the road there is a Starbucks. Breakfast was lovely, we only had lunch down by the pool - fresh variety of BBQ'ed meat and fresh pizza, I would recommend the nachos with salsa and guacamole, delicious! Definitely visit the al a carte restaurants, you can visit one every three nights you stay. The Mexican served authentic Mexican food and the Italian was superb, we ate there twice! The al a carte restaurants have to be booked at guest services but I never found this to be a problem. The main restaurant had a theme every night which again was pleasant for a buffet. A big special mention to Alex who couldn't do enough for us at breakfast and lunch down by the pool, within two days he knew what we drank and always appeared genuine when talking to you, I hope he is recognised by the management. As for reviews that talk about rude staff, I never experienced this, the staff were always friendly and helpful. The two pools were nice and warm however the pool with the bar in did become dirty (sun cream residue sitting on top of the water) at times but there was always someone coming round to clean it. The beach was beautiful and very clean. The grounds of the hotel were lovely with lots of wildlife around. I'm prone to mosquito bites however I bought a brilliant liquid plugin repellent (mosqui-go duo) from a well known online retailer which I used in the room and a strong repellent lotion (Pyramid Trek ultra) I only got 6 bites the whole trip however a lot of people were covered in bites! The timeshare people do bother you a little and me and my partner did go for the presentation, we were taken to another hotel for a gorgeous breakfast and then shown around. One of our reasons for going was the discount vouchers we were given for trips. We are very well travelled (30 + countries) and this was our 4th holiday this year, I do have to say Mexico is the most expensive country I've visited for excursions however with the discount vouchers we got made them more reasonable. The presentation only lasted 3 hours and we didn't feel pressured when we returned so we felt it was worth it for the money we saved. Overall would I go back? Yes I would considering how cheap it was for Mexico. If you want 5* then this hotel is not for you. I'll be interested to see what changes Barcelo make. Thanks for a great holiday! More>
