this was our third stay at this resort..we love the quietness of a smaller resort.. the food, service and staff are awesome.. the only complaint is there is not a gym or a workout facility on the property. a suggestion is to perhaps give a pass to use the neighboring gym at the royal hideaway.

Relaxing time in Paradise

This resort is clean and relaxing. The low key small scale of it makes it very appealing. If you want a relaxing vacation this is the place for it!!

This was our second visit to this resort

We stayed at Allegra Playa Car in 2015. Since then there have been some updates, which were all very nice with the exception of the removal of the grass umbrellas on the beach. They were replaced with palm trees. We appreciated not being attacked by time share people. They now approach it as a vacation club, with much less aggression. The entertainment staff is not as good as back in 2015. The resorts in the area usually put on a nice super bowl evening. All the bars on 5th avenue were running the super bowl on an English speaking channel. They really dropped the ball on it this year. Victor chose to run the biggest night of American football in Spanish. All of the audience with the exception of about six people spoke English. During the commercials they would turn up the lights so you could not see the screen so Victor could play football trivia games with the audience. One time, they turned up the lights while the kicker was going for the extra point. Some of the entertainment staff were much friendlier than others. Some would not even make eye contact.

Review of Allegro Playacar
Feb 08 2017
The wait-staff was excellent. The great ones remembered us from day-to-day. The beach was awesome!!! The front desk staff was not all that helpful. The "concierge" only wanted to sell us a timeshare. Our bathroom smelled like a sewer and the bath water came out brown each time we turned it on. There were certain areas of the grounds that always smelled like sewer and the public bathrooms were gross. The buffet was ok but we did not enjoy any of the restaurants. The entertainment was so-so; there was even a time when they stopped translating in English because there weren't enough Americans and Canadians in the audience. That was a little frustrating.

we had trouble with our room the first and second night. once we overcame the room issues the resort was great. I understand the resort had some remodeling done. the room I was in should not have been listed as available. The resort was able to find me a more accommodating room.

Facility was worn and dirty, swimming pools were filthy and had no filtration or water treatment, swim up bar was controlled by ignorant parents with toddlers sitting at the bar all day, the food service was poor quality, nothing like our previous trips to this area, witnessed a child pissing in pool after parent removed diaper, air conditioned spaces weren't air conditioned, entertainment was lousy, people overall not courteous at all, just a cheap resort overall, wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!

bed bugs after being upgraded
Jun 21 2016
My wife and I arrived at our hotel the lobby was very aged the marble countertop sticky and the particular person checking Us in someone unattentive. After checking in we went to our room very dark had a smell we took a look at the sheets and there was hair on the sheets and disdain. I went to the front desk complaint about this they were very apologetic he said we will upgrade you it will be the same kind of room only closer to the beach ok. The room in the condition of the room still not good stains on the tables on the floor we had twin beds this time one had hair when did not. I told my wife I would sleep on the air bed she could have the other. She needed to leave immediately however we could not make arrangements with Apple fo leave. During the three-day period my wife experienced a lot of bed bug bites we know these are bed bugs because they're not sand fleas and looking at the conditions of the mattress how healthy they looked under the sheets with the cheap foam cushion on top it was bed bugs not mosquitoes and gnats and fleas bed bugs we even looked it up online and there were some sample pictures that matched what my wife had exactly this was pretty much torture for her. On the fourth day we were able to speak to an Apple representative and make arrangements to get out of that place we transferred next door to the Royal Hideaway Hey sister Resorts of where we were staying. We did have to pay significantly for the upgrade but it was well worth the money it was good to leave where we were. As for the Royal Hideaway perfect. Donn ovshak Oklahoma City Oklahoma USA

Great beach and resort
Feb 01 2016
The beach is one of the best. The food is adequate but we didn't come here for a food trip but for the sun and surf. The staff is amazing. We had to change rooms and Ivan and Ivonne were so kind and helpful and exceeded our expectations with a complimentary message. The room we were in (5711) was outstanding. I like the small feel of the resort and that it doesn't feel like a "cattle call". You get to know others because you run into them regularly.

Excellent, comfortable, and friendly resort.

Excellent, comfortable, and friendly resort. The staff are attentive and pleasant, the food/drinks are plentiful and good, and the beach is fabulous (white sand, wide, blue/ green water). Close to the town and diving - use Pro Dive Mexico, located on the premises.

Fabulous Allegro Playacar

A very well kept and presented hotel. Great food, friendly staff, and great surroundings. The two pools are really nice, and are kept immaculate, with the beach backing onto the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel for couples and families.

Will not go back
Wed Apr 18 12:46:55 EDT 2018
We just returned from Allegro Playacar, and we won't go back. Last year while in Cozumel we were conned into buying a “test drive” timeshare for the 1st club which gives us 3 weeks at certain resorts. Based on the dates they had available and our work schedule Allegro Playacar was our only option. When we arrived the bell boy grabbed our luggage and handed me a ticket and said “you can't check in until 3:00 we will bring your luggage.” We went to the front desk told them we were 1st club and didn't know where to go she told us to “follow the sidewalk almost to the beach and take a right, follow that until you come to building 20.” We arrived at building 20 (no number on it) there were 2 very nice ladies there that told us if we needed anything come to that desk, help ourselves to the buffet by the pool come back at 3:00 for our room assignment. Oh and if we want reservations at 1 of 3 restaurants let them know, but we can only make 1 reservation at a time and it can ONLY be made 24 hours in advance. So far everything looks good, beach is beautiful, service at the buffet appeard good and everyone around the pool seemed to have a good time playing a game. I asked for a “light” beer I was told they had Corona, Corona light? No just Corona. (Yuck) At 3:00 we returned to the 1st club desk, they handed us our key card and told us our room number, we were on our own to find building 45. When we opened the door we were in complete and total shock... It was clean but outdated, musty and hot. We looked for the mini bar, found it! It was in this particle board wood grain looking cabinet. 3 bottles of liquor, Rum 3/4 empty, whiskey 1/2 empty and an unopened bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila (dusty and sticky), 2 champagne glasses. The mini fridge had 2 cans of bud light, 2 cans of Modelo, 2 of the following, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, apple juice, water, 7up and some orange drink. Night 1, we figured out that in order to cool the room you had to close the bathroom door as the window over the shower was permanently open. Then the toilet handle kept sticking until the flapper came off the handle, I reached in the tank, reattached the flapper as best I could because the handle was rusty and breaking apart. The next morning, while getting dressed, I walked into the sink area and found about an inch of water and it was pooling in the closet. The tube in the toilet tank had come lose and was spraying water straight up hitting the lid and pouring out. Got that stopped, had to use the beach towels to soak up the water enough to get to my clothes. We went to the 1st club desk and explained to the girl what happened she just look at us like she was lost, never apologized, just looked. They fixed it that day but it was messed up by the next day. Dinner at the Mexican restaurant, I ordered a glass of White Zinfandel and was told they only have red or white wine. I ordered the Sirloin because it was the only thing that didn’t contain bell pepper in the ingredients and it was like eating leather. My boyfriend ordered the “stuffed chicken” OMG they brought it out, all I could do was laugh. I told him I had never seen a chicken that looked like a roll of white sausage, both ends even had the creases from the wrapper it was squeezed out of and it didn’t taste like chicken. Rather than bore you with the details let me just sum it up for you. Draft Corona is all they serve; the food in the main dining room was terrible almost everything had bell pepper the 1 thing that I can’t eat. They don’t give you any information you just have to figure it out yourself. Service on the beach is with a smile but you only see them about every hour. Mixed drinks are bad, Strawberry Daiquiris were bitter and didn’t taste like Strawberry, ordered a Rum Punch frozen, no straws so it was hard to drink and there was almost no rum in it. Breakfast was the same every day but wasn’t bad and the service was great, Lunch around the pool was the same, Hot Dogs are awful, tasteless cold hamburgers, ketchup looks like BBQ sauce, service was good. The fake pepperoni pizza was awful. Dinner in the main area service was only good if you spoke Spanish otherwise you would be half-way through dinner before you could get anything to drink. (If you caught someone) Last couple of details, we were on the 2nd floor and every morning I would look up and see sunlight through a small hole in the thatched roof, thankfully it never rained. One morning, 6:30 a.m. I was awaken by this loud squawking of a bird, I looked up and there was a bird with his head through the hole trying to get in. You could see him picking at the straw trying to make a bigger hole. When it was time to check out we went to the desk to ask what we needed to do, again we were met with the deer in the head lights stare, we were handed a ticket and told to take it to the bell boy up front and if we had time to fill out a survey. I asked if I could fill it out up front, my boyfriend was standing outside with our luggage, I got the stare, and then she nodded. I got up front and handed the ticket to the bell boy and said “I was told to hand this to you.” He nodded and said that “she just called and wants the survey.” (As he was reaching for it.) I told him it was blank and I had just walked up here to fill it out, he reached for it again. He didn’t want the ticket he just wanted the survey. Not 1 time did anyone ask if we enjoyed our stay, said thank you for coming NOTHING. I am a beach person but if we had not gone into town a couple of days and gone to Cozumel for a day I don’t think I would have lasted the entire week. We had to get some good food and fun somewhere. We still have 2 weeks available, I doubt we will use them.

Very good holiday

This is a small but very good hotel, all the staff are excellent, they cannot do enough for you. The 2 Alejandro’s (entertainment team and waiting staff) were very good and help full. All the grounds and rooms are spotless. The only issue was the food verity in the buffet restaurant in the evening, could have been better! But it was ok. We would still comeback as every thing else made up for it. Clive, Michelle and Amber

At the recommendation of recommendation of our travel agent we chose this resort. It's a small resource in the gated community of Playacar just south of Playa del Carmen. It is about 15 to 20 minutes from Cancun airport. We had a fantastic stay, There are two pools both 1.2 m (4 feet) deep. One is a quiet pool the other a party pool. Neither one really gets too out of hand or too full. The beach is huge and beautiful. We played quite a bit on the beach as well as in the pools. The resort is about a 30 minute walk up the beach from downtown Playa del Carmen. At the end of the walk is Senior frogs a great little bar to get a drink and cool off. I recommend the walk and spending some time on/in the shops of 5th Ave.. My 10 yr old son and I travelled with my parents and we all really enjoyed ourselves. The food was also excellent.
