Beautiful Beach. The resort grounds and lobby are well maintained and nice

We stayed there for two weeks. On arrival we were assigned a room that had a musty smell, the bed clothes were damp from humidity and there was a wall unit that was broken and had no drawer. We had paid for a premium room but had difficulty with the front desk staff trying to get this room changed. They told us we would need to pay for a more up-graded room! Eventually, they agreed to change us but we did not get the up-graded room until 7:00 pm that day. The new room was clean and nice but small. We lost one of our cell phones and reported it to the front desk. They told us they did not have it and to keep checking back. We did this at least five times. Almost 48 hours later we tried again and in fact they had it. It had been handed in shortly after we lost it and they had it all the time. That was a frustrating experience. The resort has potential and the set up is nice but the front desk staff need serious training. They do not seem to know what they are doing and are unable to make basic decisions. We were told that the resort is under new management and going through some teething problems. Unfortunately that does not help the guests who have paid a lot of money to stay at the resort. Wi-Fi is not free and the cost of either $10.00 US per day or $50.00 US for two devices for one week. The front desk staff do not always have the codes available and we were constantly asked to return at a later time. The food was mediocre at best. The Asian Restaurant was the best of the A La Carte restaurants. Italian was disappointing with very small portions. The Mexican was average. The buffet was also very average. The bar and waiter staff were all very nice and worked hard. Special mention to Claudia who directs everyone to their tables who was great and also the bar man David at the Amber Bar. There is an issue with beach towels as they seem to run out constantly. We had to wait a whole day before we got one. The pools were nice and the poolside entertainment was good. We did not attend the evening entertainment but heard it was good. The grounds are very well maintained. Bring your own Kleenex and straws as they do not supply these. The only shade at the beach is some young palm trees. They have not updated their photograph showing these. This is definitely only a three star resort.

this was our second trip to Allegro Playacar.. the changes that they have made are wonderful. the rooms have been updated and are so much nicer. the staff was friendly and remembered you. The Mexican restaurant is not as good as last year, but they have added a oriental restaurant that is excellent. the buffet at night did get a little old with mostly the same thing every night. The resort is small and easy to get around. the beach is beautiful. Location is excellent, close to Playa Del Carmen. Good job BarcelĂł for making a nice resort a awesome resort!!

We had an absolutely fantastic vacation at Allegro Playacar! The resort is gorgeous and well maintained. The beach is fabulous! Jorge has an excellent waiter and bartender staff. Breakfast buffets and poolside lunch are a must with Humberto, Bernardo, Alejandro & Emmanual! Abel and Manuel are magnificent bartenders who remember exactly what your preferred drink is! The walk ways and restaurant area is kept clean thanks to Sarri and Mirivinena (I think I have the spelling wrong on these names but they were wonderful!). Are Rooms were spacious and clean. Thanks to Thelma who kept our room clean and fridge stocked with water and beverages! The Raptor Guy with the falcon was fun to watch and kept any pesky birds away. Daytime poolside entertainment was fun and enjoyable! The night time buffet food gets repetitious but you can always book reservations for Mexican, Italian or Asian cuisine. People enjoyed the nighttime entertainment at the outside theater but we preferred the quieter evenings at the poolside bar. Daniel takes good care of delivering luggage quickly to your room. Also a special mention to Jose, David and Fredi who were the night time wait staff at the buffet and always remembered us and our preferred table!

The grounds are very well kept, a lot of work being done even in the peak season. They have added an "A LA CARTE" oriental restaurant it is a good idea and the meal and service were very good, but for that they have taken part of the seating area of the BUFFET. What is negative on my part, a lot less choices in the BUFFET, missing a lot of good choices we had the previous years. And of course like every year, there are a lot of fans above us and this cools your plate, so you eat cold. I love Mexicain food and Italian food but I don't like my food when it is cold. So a lot of times I had desserts for my meals.

5 Stars to Zero

The service staff was fabulous, friendly, helpful and soon recognized us. We probably doubled tipped in some cases for outstanding service. The food too was wonderful. The buffet was perfect for dinners and only ate 2 times at the other restaurants. Breakfast and dinner both had stations for made to order items. Lunch by the pool was equally as good. Now for the Zero Star. We arrived on Saturday, now this was a dive trip, and the front desk did not have a clue as to where the dive shop was. We wanted to check in and get set up to start diving on Sunday morning. As it turned out ProDive had a representative by the pool and the operation was at an adjoining hotel. ProDive was 5 Star Plus operation! So now we missed the morning dives. And now the room. We complained Sunday of a water leak coming down from the ceiling to the floor by the sink. It got progressively worse during the week, constant complaints, they tore our the ceiling panels 2x while we were occupying the room and the leak continued. It was so bad - see pictures - we had to move out of the closet area entirely and live out of our suitcases. FINALLY on Thursday they offered us another room. We explained we were going on a 12 hour bus tour on Friday and leaving on Saturday and moving would not help at this point after dealing with it all week. We tried several times to speak to the GM but only got 2nd in command. After that we were offered free wifi - what for one day? Massage free - when? We were going to be out all day on Friday and then offered dinner by the sea. Again we were not getting back till 9:00 pm on Friday,. We did request a room comp for 5 nights (not 7 that we were there, nor any part of the meal plan with the all inclusive, just room) and got no where. Apparently we found out that after the renovations there were leaks in our quad unit building. No way should we have been put in that room knowing that until resolved and as early as Monday be offered another room. We also should not have been inconvenienced with workmen in the room on 2 different occasions. Again, fabulous staff, food and service but beyond poor in acknowledgement of guest needs on the part of senior management.
