The Beds and your front desk staff who really didn't care about us. They gave us a room with one bed when it was my cousin and i checked in.we spoke with manager in (Ivonne who is not a people person I don't what she is doing working there) Then they gave us room 1403 which was horrible it smelled like a sewer/ we had a leaky faucet/ water leaked from the ceiling the iron didn't work We went to front desk to complain nothing was done.they just looked at us like we was crazy.
NOW THE Good: the food was GREAT i stay at a few resorts. the staff such as the bartenders/servers all great people when you go to the buffet please sit near the bar Erica our was great and was very attentive.
It's just the front desk with their crappie attitude

We have stayed at over 30 some different AI's and some many times. We usually stay at the Gran Porto Real in Playa, but this past May decided to try the Allegro Playacar. And it was a great choice for us. We've wanted to try it for years, but some of the reviews put us off. Well it was so good that we went back the end of November for our 16th Anniversary. I think the great service started with Slivia as many others have said. We got the room we wanted, which was the same as the 1st trip. Thanks to Silvia helping us pick!. Food was good, always manys choices. Fresh fish is hard to beat and they had it, awesome! We are pretty big drinkers and the 1st trip there was a better selection, we were a little bummed they were missing some of our favorites the 2nd time. They did have Havana Club Anejo our 1st couple of days, but then the bartenders said they were out, they had to save what they had for Christmas and New Years. We've seen this at other resorts and were bummed. But after talking to the right people we were set for the week. Manuel, Hilario, and the rest of the pool bar staff took such good care of us. Honestly between them and Silvia, that's a big part of why we returned, and will go back in a couple of months again! Jacobo was always friendly and helpful as well. May not be a high end new Huge resort, but that's what gives it the charm. That's why we go to Mexico. Perfect size resort, and the beach really is hard to beat. Probably the best we've ever seen!! We can't wait to see everyone there soon!!!!

Having reviewed a couple of facilities in my time, find it very puzzling to see reviews that actually had me quite worried about what kind of dump I had booked. Nothing could be further from the truth. SO, it is an older construction, but, it is maintained meticulously, staff is constantly mopping, cleaning. The buffets are amazing. Seriously, the people who complain about repetitiveness, it is by their choice. I am a native of Mexico, and the breakfast and dinner buffets are both veritably a cornucopia of some of the finest, classiest, most exotic Mexican food treats. assorted drinks with the tropical fruits you cannot find anywhere else. If you are not adventurous, I am sure there were enough bland things. I counted 23 types of breads and pastries, there is a taco bar (real stuff), a grill with fish and steaks made while you wait, pasta. station, among other assorted choice. The lunch is just slightly less abundant, but I found special treats that speak of a thoughtful, creative culinary staff.
OK, now for the actual rooms. Small, ours had pretty bad Feng Shui. Try to give it some sort of tropical feel by putting a hammock on the porch, Not much of a view Tired, old CRT TV that shuts itself off and on randomly. It did not matter. the beds did the job. The air conditioning is either on or off. But,I do not know about you, but we had our eyes closed about 90% of the time we were in there.
NO ROOM SERVICE.
The hotel is in a development that is highly residential with very nice houses, and you would be cheating yourself if you do not walk the 800 m (about 1/2 a mile) to the city, and you will see a number of ancient Mayan structures, and the actual shopping/commercial district is a lot of fun, and you can see the people lugging their suitcases as they are getting off or getting on the ferries to Cozumel.
Caters to Italian Tourists. Just because you can buy a string bikini or tiny Speedo, it does not mean it should be worn in public. Just sayin'.
Bottom line: We all would go back tomorrow.
Home away from home! Staff are amazingly helpful and friendly

Hi all, this review is really late, I thought I had posted it but see that when uploading my review an error must of happened. I apologize Silvia and the Allegro team.... Here comes a deserving review!
We travelled for a second time to Allegro and OMG when we arrived it was like arriving at a family reunion. Everyone remembered us!
I million THANK YOU for Silvia. We had contacted the hotel before travelling as we wanted to surprise our couple friend at the hotel. Silvia arranged everything everything for us and was very happy to do so. She was as excited as us! and yes our surprise was a success!
We where treated like royalty the whole time we where there!
Our favorite waiters, Manuel, , Nestor, Abel are the best at making our drinks... as soon as they saw us they remembered what we liked. Always making us laugh! Jacobo as usual goes out of his way to make sure you are happy and well taken care of. I would be looking for a table to sit and eat and up comes Jacobo telling us that he had a table ready for us.... Always made sure we had what we needed!
We dined mostly at the Mexican restaurant, the food is always delicious and Fidel and Cesar made our supers memorable!
Again thank you to Silvia, Carmen and Yvonne at the front desk, they have the best smiles. They thrive to please there guests! If we needed anything at all, they where always ready to help.
Everyone mentioned above, always go out of their way to make you happy! You can see that they love there jobs !!!
I would recommend this hotel to all that loves a quaint hotel. Its a small location with a homey feel. Grounds are always nice and clean. You don't have to walk very far to get to any point (beach, restaurant, front desk). The resort was fully booked but we never felt overcrowded. I love love this resort and will be back.
Remember to be nice and tip... being rude doesn't get you anywhere
See you soon Allegro family!!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here Dec 23-27 and we absolutely loved it! We were offered a promotion to go to the 5 star Grande Xcaret hotel but missed being at this one greatly and wanted to go back! We loved how quaint and personal this place was compared to the hotels with large grounds and concrete buildings.
The staff were all great and we loved the grounds. It was a few minute walk from the front lobby to the beach which was great. We loved how at home and comfortable we felt in our room. There is a hammock on the balcony and the rooms were in little villas. Our room was off to the side at the edge of the property which was nice because it was quiet. We had a new little towel animal on our bed every day which I loved, and a fruit tray for when we got there. I was worried about the AC and the hard beds from the reviews I had read, but we actually found out bed comfortable and our AC worked great! We contacted Silvia (hotel manager) on here (Tripadvisor) and mentioned that we were worried about those things but it wasn't a problem. We even got VIP wristbands and a special, and hilarious, event on Wednesday night for contacting her ahead of time.
The beach was amazing! The water was so clear and the sand was perfect. There were vendors that came along the beach, jewelry vendors and people offering things such as jetskiing and parasailing. We went jetskiing and it was so fun!
One day we walked to Playa Del Carmen which was about a 15 minute walk along the beach and you can see all of the other places along the way. You can see Cozumel across the water too. If you leave the hotel out the front there is a little mall with a starbucks a few minutes down the street where you can get free wifi and a cheaper ATM than in the hotel. Another day we went to Xel Ha which was also amazing!
The food was pretty good and they had good variety. We only got to eat at the Mexican restaurant which was really good. The service is great and they are very attentive. The only thing that I would say about the food that wasn't fantastic was the vegetarian-friendliness. I would recommend that they label their food as vegetarian or not because I had a hard time sometimes deciphering whether or not there was meat in the dish and there was often meat in the salads. All that is needed is a little symbol showing there isn't any meat in the dish. Also, the late night snack of taco's was only offered as meat, but we were given tomatoes and I just had that in my tortilla instead. Maybe a veggie option for this? Veggies other than the tomato salsa or even guac? By the way, the guacamole was delicious! If you are vegetarian I suggest taking some food from the lunch/snack buffet and keeping it in your room (covered or in the fridge) and eating that as your late night snack.
Also, it's important to note that it is a super safe area. It is a gated community so walking to Starbucks isn't a big deal and same with walking into Playa Del Carmen along the beach (we took it both ways so not sure how the walk is back along the road).
Overall though we absolutely loved it here! Every day felt like the best day ever and we will definitely be going back!
Thank you Silvia and everyone else for an amazing first time in Mexico!!
