This was our second visit to this resort
Feb 16 2017
We stayed at Allegra Playa Car in 2015. Since then there have been some updates, which were all very nice with the exception of the removal of the grass umbrellas on the beach. They were replaced with palm trees. We appreciated not being attacked by time share people. They now approach it as a vacation club, with much less aggression. The entertainment staff is not as good as back in 2015. The resorts in the area usually put on a nice super bowl evening. All the bars on 5th avenue were running the super bowl on an English speaking channel. They really dropped the ball on it this year. Victor chose to run the biggest night of American football in Spanish. All of the audience with the exception of about six people spoke English. During the commercials they would turn up the lights so you could not see the screen so Victor could play football trivia games with the audience. One time, they turned up the lights while the kicker was going for the extra point. Some of the entertainment staff were much friendlier than others. Some would not even make eye contact.

Review of Allegro Playacar
Feb 08 2017
The wait-staff was excellent. The great ones remembered us from day-to-day. The beach was awesome!!! The front desk staff was not all that helpful. The "concierge" only wanted to sell us a timeshare. Our bathroom smelled like a sewer and the bath water came out brown each time we turned it on. There were certain areas of the grounds that always smelled like sewer and the public bathrooms were gross. The buffet was ok but we did not enjoy any of the restaurants. The entertainment was so-so; there was even a time when they stopped translating in English because there weren't enough Americans and Canadians in the audience. That was a little frustrating.

we had trouble with our room the first and second night. once we overcame the room issues the resort was great. I understand the resort had some remodeling done. the room I was in should not have been listed as available. The resort was able to find me a more accommodating room.

Facility was worn and dirty, swimming pools were filthy and had no filtration or water treatment, swim up bar was controlled by ignorant parents with toddlers sitting at the bar all day, the food service was poor quality, nothing like our previous trips to this area, witnessed a child pissing in pool after parent removed diaper, air conditioned spaces weren't air conditioned, entertainment was lousy, people overall not courteous at all, just a cheap resort overall, wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!

bed bugs after being upgraded
Jun 21 2016
My wife and I arrived at our hotel the lobby was very aged the marble countertop sticky and the particular person checking Us in someone unattentive. After checking in we went to our room very dark had a smell we took a look at the sheets and there was hair on the sheets and disdain. I went to the front desk complaint about this they were very apologetic he said we will upgrade you it will be the same kind of room only closer to the beach ok. The room in the condition of the room still not good stains on the tables on the floor we had twin beds this time one had hair when did not. I told my wife I would sleep on the air bed she could have the other. She needed to leave immediately however we could not make arrangements with Apple fo leave. During the three-day period my wife experienced a lot of bed bug bites we know these are bed bugs because they're not sand fleas and looking at the conditions of the mattress how healthy they looked under the sheets with the cheap foam cushion on top it was bed bugs not mosquitoes and gnats and fleas bed bugs we even looked it up online and there were some sample pictures that matched what my wife had exactly this was pretty much torture for her. On the fourth day we were able to speak to an Apple representative and make arrangements to get out of that place we transferred next door to the Royal Hideaway Hey sister Resorts of where we were staying. We did have to pay significantly for the upgrade but it was well worth the money it was good to leave where we were. As for the Royal Hideaway perfect. Donn ovshak Oklahoma City Oklahoma USA

Departure Transfer Confermation

I usually need to spend valuable vacation time on the phone to confirm my departure transfer to the airport. It would be beneficial to to streamline this procedure.

Great beach and resort
Feb 01 2016
The beach is one of the best. The food is adequate but we didn't come here for a food trip but for the sun and surf. The staff is amazing. We had to change rooms and Ivan and Ivonne were so kind and helpful and exceeded our expectations with a complimentary message. The room we were in (5711) was outstanding. I like the small feel of the resort and that it doesn't feel like a "cattle call". You get to know others because you run into them regularly.

Overall we liked the hotel, as we stayed in similar hotel in Cozumel 1.5 years ago.. however we didn't like the constant hassle off being asked to goto a viewing off the more luxurious hotel, and every person who we talked to offered something different. Even though we agreed to go it wasn't 90 minutes it ended up being 4 hours, and we were with our autistic son. When we went to collect the day trip at the Allegro in Cozumel we were told its full and we can't get the day trip, and even the supervisor was surprised why the representative lied to us. Also the sink was leaking all over and there was mold and rust on the walls all our things were wet. We felt that this should have already been addressed thru the maid service that this was an issue. I was also not able to enjoy any diving excursions with my husband as play place staff were only available for 2 hrs.

Our getaway

We stood at the Allegro for twelve days. We frequent Playa Car several times per year. Our stay is usually at a Riu, so this was a change for us. This resort is much smaller than most in Playacar. The rooms are bungalows with an outside hammock..great touch. We found the beds too hard for our likings. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and it's a 20 minute walk to 5th Avenue or a 7.00 cab ride. The food was fair/poor quality, they should incorporate chicken breast & some other carved meat into their buffett. We actually ate down town three nights just to get some decent food. As for the activities team they are great, Alejandro, Fernando. Fernanda and Mario were wonferful. They will keep you laughing and entertained. Manuela(pool bar waiter) was the best always smiling and making his way around the pool and beach area. Victor our waiter knew what we liked to drink every morning..he also got me peanut butter everyday. These people work extremely hard, we tipped everyone. It is sad to see so many people not tip them. The nightly shows were entertaining. All in all we had a good time..would we visit the Allegro again..maybe if the price was right!!

Meh...But good enough

This is like the Toyota Camry of all-inclusives. It gets the job done, runs well enough, relatively economical. But if you're looking for "bells and whistles" and aesthetics, this is probably NOT the place. We were there on a dive trip, so our primary entertainment was the diving. If we were there for the resort, I wouldn't have been terribly pleased. But it's probably best it wasn't a super nice resort since I would have felt rather out of place dragging my smelly dive gear through people's relaxing atmosphere. Better place for partying, not honeymooning (but everyone has different preferences). Food/Drink - Pretty good food. Varied enough that everyone should be able to find something they like. Minor complaint -- there's a couple hours gap between each of the 3 meals, so if you're like me and don't eat at conventional hours of the day, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything other than old pizza. Major complaint -- as a coffee addict, I was sorely disappointed that "specialty" drinks like cappuccino, latte, etc. were not available after the breakfast hours (or they were, but for extra $ an "all-inclusive".....) Drinks were pretty much customizable, but if you're looking for presentation, you'll be disappointed. Like I said...Toyota Camry. They had alcohol and you can get buzzed, but the drinks are served in cafeteria style plastic cups and weren't aesthetically pleasing. But hey....not a big deal. They did seem to consistently run out of Bailey's and Whiskey though. Pools - Good. I'm sure it's difficult to keep super clean with a bunch of drunk people swimming around in them, but maintenance probably could have been a bit better. Activities - Fun group of people running the activities. I think they had enough activities throughout the day to make it entertaining. Rooms - Good. I liked that they had a fridge and coffee maker in the room. Beds were a bit hard, so if you have back issues, bring something to lay on top. Our first room had a major issue, in that twice a night - around 9:30PM and 2AM - the room would fill with cigarette smoke. I woke up every night and had to sit outside the room for hours waiting for it to clear. After the 3rd night, I finally said something to the front desk and they moved us to a different room. All good after that. So I appreciate them accommodating us with that. Service - Good. Front desk, bell hops, maids, bar tenders, dining room wait staff were all good, friendly, helpful. Would I go back? Probably not. But I'm just "bourgeois" like that. ;)

We travelled to Allegro for a week for our honeymoon Sept 30-Oct 7, 2017. The resort is very nice and clearly and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food was better than expected and very tasty. We tried all the a la cartes, which were all good. The buffet always had a food variety and never for boring. This is a very relaxing resort. Not the kind of place you go to party. It is quiet small and mostly European vacationers, and not a lot of English being spoken. I would love to go back to Playacar as the community was beautiful and very safe. There is a Starbucks a 5 min walk away with free wifi. 5th ave and shopping was only a $6 cab. We loved that each room had a hammock, and we used it a lot. No complaints aside from quite a bit of rain while we we there- but that is obv not the resorts fault!
