I read all the negative reviews and have one conclusion- if you are prissy or expect perfection this place not for you. I LOVED IT, friendly people, beach was great, food was ok( some nights really good other nights average).. For the price it was fantastic.. I will go again if I find the same deal.. The rooms are rooms that's it. The hammock was a bonus touch.. If you think you are royalty this place is not for you!
2 weeks spent here the best part is the beach, clean stafe and no jelly fish. The music from around the pool area is loud and all day and filters on to the beach and up to the rooms not a moments peace what with the constant noise and smell of petrol from the jet ski's this doesnt make a very relaxing holiday, but there is always beds free you have to get up early to get shade.
The rooms are a good size with separate dressing area and a safe. The air con was to noisey to have on at night, we had a upstairs room and the way the roof sits there is gaps around the top so you can hear next door this needs to be addressed, but cleaned every day with fresh towels not always cover on duvet but we just used the sheet due to no air con and ceiling fan squeaky. Extensive building works being carried out on some of the rooms near reception the drilling started at around 10am and lasted most of the day, disappointed that we were not made aware of this before we arrived as we would have choose another hotel.
Sales people just outside reception we actually thought they were part of the hotel team due to the uniforms being the same colour don't be fooled they are not and just want to sell you trips and were persistent and annoying even a polite No does not work and they continually hassle you even if you walk in and out of reception 10 times a day.
Food wasn't the highest of qualitity but there is always something to eat and we never went hungry and didn't have an upset tummy at all.
Overall not a bad bad hotel there are some issues that the management need to address apologies mean nothing if your not going to act on reviews get on and make the changes.
If you want peace and quiet this is not the place for you.
Exactly what we wanted! Love this hotel and would definitely go back.
We went here on honeymoon, just the 2 of us, stayed 15th-24th June 2016. We wanted a peaceful, no frills, quiet honeymoon and we got exactly this. We have never been to Mexico and we absolutely loved it. The hotel is lovely and all the staff are so nice! We wouldn't fly with Thomas Cook long haul again but found most other aspects of the trip really good.
We landed 2pm and were at our hotel for around 4. The journey in a private taxi is about 1 hour 10 minutes. The hotel is set in a gated community, we found no problems walking through the gates but if you left the hotel in a car/bus they would ask your room number at the hotel before you left. The hotel is set in a lovely area. Turn left out of the hotel and it's 5 minutes (if that) walk to starbucks and a shopping area where you can get souvenirs, cigarettes etc. Turn right and it's a 15-20 walk into playa del carmen, just walk straight down till you get to the gates, and then it's 2 minutes and you're at a big shopping centre. The shopping there is brilliant, lots of big shops that we've never seen before. We booked our trips in playa del carmen while we were there shopping, it was much cheaper than the touts nearer to the hotel and definitely a lot cheaper than the timeshare guys in the hotel, even with the "honeymooners discount". We went to Xel Ha which is great if you like swimming and snorkeling. We went to coco bongos that is an absolute must do if you're into lively nights out. We booked with the girl who wore a coco bongos shirt in the hotel, she was called Maria I think. She is a lovely girl who got us a great deal and made sure we were fully reassured, happy and we always knew where we were with her. We also skipped a HUGE queue going VIP - well worth it.
Back to the hotel, check in was quick, they brought our bags up for us. I absolutely loved the room. It was so romantic and cosy. The roof is made from straw like material but it rained hard when we was there at times and it never let any water in. You can hear the birds singing in the morning and I love it, they rarely woke us up. The aircon was out of this world, my husband had the room literally like a fridge. It was like walking into an oven walking out of there outside. It had a lot of room, wardrobes and shelves for your clothes, a separate toilet and shower, and then a sink between with a big mirror. In the shelf area you got a safe which was free to use for your whole stay (you set your own code on your first day). We had a flat screen tv with remote and a lot of channels. The room had a good hair dryer and a good fridge. They filled it every day with cans of beer, pepsi and a big bottle of water. They also left us a plate with strawberries dipped in chocolate and made things out of the towels for on the bed. They were so accommodating.
The mexicans work very hard! Very long hours but they always have a smile on their faces and seem happy to see you. Our first morning my husband wanted to watch the england v wales football game, it kicked off at 8am due to time difference. We went down to reception and asked a man if they were playing it. They couldn't get it to work in the upstairs bar so they streamed it on a laptop and put us all in a conference room with it projected on a big screen. They brought us waters etc and it was so cool in there. There were only about 10 of us in there. I was impressed they went above and beyond to make us happy. The maids, entertainment team, bar staff, reception staff and all the ground cleaners and maintenance people that we met were all nice, friendly and always smiled at us or said hello. The hotel had a really friendly feel and we didn't get any animosity at all from anyone. We loved Martin he is an asset to the hotel. The 2 ladies in guest services were also extremely nice and friendly. The beach is amazing! We loved the pool with the swim up bar but we also went by the other pool which we found is quieter and less windy. We enjoyed sitting by the pool by the beach because the entertainment team were at it all day getting people up, playing drinking games, pool games, quizzes. But, on days you didn't feel like it, the quieter pool on the other side or the beach was perfect to have a quiet day. There are touts on the beach which occasionally come over offering whatever they have. Every time we went on the beach we were offered drugs after we'd said no to their cigars. But a quick no thanks and they went off straight away. This said, the hotel seemed to be very secure, the beach had a security guard, there is about 12 entertainment staff which are always around the pool or on the beach. The front door is manned by 2 lovely guys who just seem to have your safety in mind.
When you walk through the front of the hotel and come outside, there is an area with tables and chairs where all the "timeshare" touts congregate. They tried to get us on our first walk through, when we'd just got there! We ended up listening to the bull poo for 10 or so minutes the next day, he told us how he would give us all these amazing offers if we went on this hotel tour, and it was only for married couples and honeymooners, but the deals he was giving us was for honeymooners only and only if we went on the tour. We later found out you can get the trips cheaper in playa del carmen even with the "discount". We agreed to go on this "hotel tour" just so he'd leave us alone. He told us we'd need to take a credit or debit card, he went pretty cagey when we told him we only carried cash and had no cards with us, but he said that it was fine anyway. We booked it for the next morning but we didn't go. We met a lovely couple from the UK who had also booked to go on the same morning as us. When we spoke to them after they'd been, they said it was awful. They said the man got very aggressive with them, asked her if she was stupid and then started screaming at her "why do you come here if you don't want a timeshare" :-/ I'm glad we didn't go. One thing though, after we told them we had no cards and didn't turn up they pretty much left us alone when we walked past.
The food is plentiful and there's so much to choose from. I am a fussy eater, so I hardly ever enjoy the food at all inclusive hotels, but I did here. They had a pizzeria next to the pools which had fresh cooked pizza and paninis. You made up the panini yourself with the ingredients and then gave it to them and they toasted it. The pizza bases and bread is all made fresh. On the other side there is a burger/hotdog bar. They were both open 12pm-6pm. Then there is a main buffet restaurant open something like 7-11am, 12-2pm, 6:30-9:30pm. In there you are waited on and they have a different theme every night. They had some gorgeous food. They always had someone stood cooking fresh to order, fajitas on Mexican night, garlic chicken on Italian night, stir fry on oriental night. In the mornings they had someone cooking fried eggs and omelettes fresh to order, it was always the same man bless him he was brilliant and great at cooking eggs! The butter wasn't very nice, so I hardly had bread or toast, but what I did have the bread was so soft and very fresh. The cooked veg was hardly ever soft. Apart from the potato wedges they did one night. But other potatoes, any kind of boiled veg, it was always hard. The pasta was occasionally hard but it was hit and miss, the lasagna was beautiful. We had a meal in the italian restaurant one night but it wasn't great. I had carbonara and the bacon was really grizzly and it was covered in a really fatty cheese, the pasta was also hard. We went to the inside restaurant by the pool too a couple of times, they had Mexican style food in there mostly. Between 11pm and 1am they served kebabs in this area too. All in all though, the food was great. You could always find something.
Drinks were also plentiful, extremely varied and poured well. Not too strong so you can't drink it, but not measured either. They had top shelf brands of spirit on the all inclusive, Smirn off, Jim Beam, Absolute, Gordons etc. They had a cocktail book at every bar and I tried pretty much all of them. All the bar staff always said, I make the best cocktail, they took so much pride in making the best one.
There was an onsite photographer. They had a different show in the theatre every night and some of the shows were very good. They had a sports bar which played mostly american sports. There was a kids area but we didn't go there so can't comment. We paid for the wifi once and we both used it for the whole of our stay. It was ok connection, worked the majority of the time but occasionally went slow, we got by with it.
We did have a very good holiday and we really enjoyed it. There were negatives, but, the positives massively outweighed them. We would go back if we wanted something cheap and quiet and to see a friendly face. For the price, I think we got a real bargain. Thank you to everyone at Allegro for making our honeymoon so great!
hello, just came back from this hotel with my partner, been to cancun before, it is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in it was hotels from hell. the food is total pigswill its just pots, topped up a sprinkle of something on top to make it look fresh, soon as you get there they are like sharks selling you timeshares, the rooms are small cant leave the air con on to noisy run alive with mosquitos. thatched roofes with lots of holes, swimming pool is manky, music entertainment is a joke, its all give me your money grab grab, no free internet, had to stay for 2 weeks, seckond week all I eat was boiled eggs my partner just toast, the happiest part of our holiday was leaving rip,
