The pool at sister property Marriott was closed but we were able to use pool at the nearby Westin. The pool is nice and next to beach. Not good for swimming laps due to shape and crowdedness. There is a swim up bar but crowded. Drink beer as margaritas are weak with hotel prices. Pool waiters are busy due to crowds when we were there.
Stayed here for a few days while attending a conference nearby. The property is absolutely gorgeous with four well maintained pools. The room was absolutely clean and the staff are amazing. The restaurant staff are also very good. Already looking forward to coming back.
Nightly resort credits changing after booking
The property is wonderful and I've been a repeat Platinum Titanium customer with my family for the 4th year in a row now. Needless to say I am planning to be back and thanks to some fortunate booking I was able to make a reservation for this October that comes with a USD 100 nightly (!) resort credit. For no apparent reason the hotel reservation team keeps trying to a) eliminate the daily credit altogether or b) now reduced the credit to USD 75 a night. It is more than frustrating that I as a Platinum Elite member have to permanently check my rate and benefits to make sure it is still in the reservation the same way as I booked it.
Dangerous Cleaning Products
Got to this hotel tonight around 4:30pm and was expecting a rather uneventful check-in. Needless to say, the front desk person said she was having trouble making our key. While we waited a concierge approached us to pitch a special rate for "gold members" if we want to come back. After about 7-10 minutes our key was finally ready and we made our way to our room. As soon as we entered our room we were overwhelmed by a very strong disinfectant that literally had just been sprayed in our room before we walked in. The floor was slippery from the overspray and we immediately started coughing. We went to the balcony and called the front desk to change rooms. Had this just been a normal disinfectant we wouldn't have hesitated to stay, but this was so strong that we were coughing while on the balcony trying to get fresh air. Both of us now have headaches from the chemicals. What a great way to start our stay. After waiting for a room key to get delivered we finally gave up and went to the front desk. When we got there we were met by a gentleman who explained he had another room that had just been cleaned. He walked with us up to the new room and explained that other guests had also complained about the cleaning chemicals being used. Fortunately, our second room was not inundated with chemicals. We left the room to head down to check out the pool and club level. After seeing the pool we decided to go get a drink at the club. We called the front desk to get the location of the club and were told it was in the restaurant downstairs. Thinking this was a mistake we found a hotel employee and asked him. He said it was located on 12 and was open from 5-8. Upon arriving at the club we discovered our keys didn't work. We then went to the front desk to get our keys reprogrammed. We were advised by the front desk the club was closed and we could use the restaurant downstairs. As I sit here enjoying a cocktail at the "club" I'm wondering why I spent $300/night to stay here. At best, this place isn't worth more than $100/ night. Never again.
I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve stayed here over the years. We return year after year primarily for the pool and the service. And to start with, it’s only fair to say that our room rate was a mere $68 per night! So, there isn’t much room to complain at that price! Still, there are concerns that have been mentioned, and positive experiences as well. The very first thing that we noticed was that the staff have turned over some. Particularly at the front desk. And the Concierge staff make their presence more than known (which is both good and bad). But like all previous stay, the staff here are wonderful! Everyone is friendly and this is one of the hardest working crews you are going to find anywhere! There isn’t one that stands out over the others. All, including cleaning and gardening crews were friendly and welcoming! The pool was in the same shape that it was last year, minus some areas that could use a good power washing around where the chairs are located. When we arrived, our first room was not one of the upgraded rooms that Marriott Gold members are supposed to get. The front staff was very clear that we could be moved to a higher floor the next day (which is in keeping with the room category we usually receive). We thought we would make it easier on the staff, and just offer to stay in the room they put us in. We honestly tried! But when we got to the room, it was clearly worn around the edges! The sink faucet rotated 360 degrees. The toilet was not fastened to the ground (you could actually lift it), and when it was flushed, water (god I hope that’s what it was!) came out around the base. Needless to say, we needed a new room! The front desk accommodated our request and put us on the top floor with a great view, but two double beds instead of the king we had reserved. But since everything was in good working order, and the front desk had made clear to us that it was two beds, we just decided to keep the room. We’re glad we did in the end. The breakfast buffet was as good as it usually is (about four stars) with the usual offerings. Pool food was just that...pool food. Nothing fancy nor anything that will knock your socks off. But here’s the newsworthy part... This hotel is excepted to convert it’s rooms for Villas! The Westin PV as we know it is going away! Staff we enjoy talking to (I won’t mention names as I don’t want to cause problems for them), suggest that this change is about two to three years off. But, it is clearly the plan, as I was approached by the concierge (again!) to listen to a presentation “special just for gold members” (yea...right!). So if you are like us, and you shop for good rates and know what you are getting here at the Westin Puerto Vallarta, you’re going to need to high tail it down here in the next two to three years, before this place becomes a distant memory!
