My husband and I just returned from a wonderful vacation at Waves Hotel in Barbados. Everything about this hotel is great... the rooms, beach, food, staff, etc. All the little touches such as the frozen fruit kabobs on the beach, the peppermint spray, and cool towels that the staff provide on the beach is lovely. Our complimentary spa treatments were heavenly! The Seascape, Kyma and Shiso restaurant were excellent!! The hotel left us a bottle of champagne and cake for our anniversary which we really appreciated. We will definitely be back to this amazing resort!
Great family resort!
Smaller resort with excellent service!! Great for families!!! The staff is absolutely wonderful. They put on daily activities and always greeted us with a smile. The food was excellent at all three restaurants. Thank you Waves staff for a wonderful stay. ♥️♥️
Visited in July with our teenagers - aged 13 and 15. We had a great holiday. Lovely hotel, beautiful beach, good food, great room and great staff. The beach is small but lovely, gorgeous sand, beautiful clear water and hardly any rocks (whereas seemed to be loads at the Crystal Cove). Really nice to have air conditioned coffee shop for a break from the sun. Would definitely recommend.
This hotel was truly amazing. Nothing was too much for any of the staff, all of them friendly and attentive. The food was amazing, fresh produce and always something to choose from every day The inclusive spa treatments were wonderful and I can highly recommend the deep tissue massage, then you can relax by the adult only spa pool or in the zen garden I cannot recommend this hotel enough, my review doesn't even touch on all of its features.
Excellent customer service and relaxing holiday
A very well presented hotel in a great position. Rooms are well maintained, well proportioned and well decorated (we had 002 and 004 on the ground floor straight out on to the deck). Communal areas are clean and spacious so you don't feel on top of other guests even though it's a small hotel. Beach is beautiful and not as small as the photo's show. Pros - Service - staff are very attentive and probably the most genuinely happy staff we has ever come across - in fact, Bajan people are all like this (the ones we met). Food at the hotel is varied enough for a 10 night stay. It's incredibly delicious and plentiful. The Seascape restaurant buffet (offering 3 meals a day) is fresh and gives a good taste of local cuisine as well as more familiar options. Kyma coffee shop serves great coffee and panini's (you can request any filling really as they are made to order, but the menu options are all lovely) and afternoon tea; and Kyma is a great change from the buffet for lunch. The Asian restaurant on the adult only side, is very lovely food. Apart from the coffee shop, there is a changing lunch/evening buffet menu and Asian restaurant menu every day. Breakfast - the same food is served daily (crispy bacon, sausages, beans scrambled eggs), with two dishes changing to have either hash browns, variety of local dishes to accompany and you can have eggs (omelette, poached, fried) or pancakes made fresh to your liking each morning. A wide variety of pastries and fruits and cold meats too, with cereal, granola and yoghurts. You won't get bored of breakfast! The sea (in July) is calm and warm. There is some good snorkelling straight off the beach and the swimming area is plenty big enough (you can swim outside this area, but be mindful of the boats and jets ski's etc). Watersports are very well led by friendly staff and good tuition is provided where required. You MUST book your slot early or the day before as they get booked up quickly. Kayaks and paddle boards tend to be available at any time, but the donuts and waterskiing/wakeboarding is busier. There are also Hoby Cat boats (two) which they can take you on or you can take out the smaller one (tuition available if needed). Beach staff provide all types of drinks (alcohol/soft/mocktails/coffee/cocktails/beer). This starts about 9am and carries on until about 4pm. It wasn't clear whether we should to tip them....we did (2 Barbadian dollars), but our friends didn't. They appreciated the tips. They bring peppermint cooling spray, frozen fruit on cocktail sticks and cold towels (usually in the morning) and icecream in the afternoon. Pick up from the airport was efficient and very friendly. In July, the weather is warm all the time, day and night. It's lovely to sit out in the evening on the deck. There is a table service for drinks orders and the sunsets are stunning. Activities organised each day - including beach cricket (such fun), yoga, cocktail making, to give you an example. Theres a seller set up in the main reception area, different each day, selling local wares (jewellery, bags, paintings etc - no obligation to buy). Each night there is a singer/band on - very entertaining and you CAN and MUST get up to dance when the mood takes you - it gets everyone up and having a good time! The gym is small, but certainly practical - running machines, elliptical, free weights, weight bench, mats, weight machine, water and towels in there. (TV on in there too). You can walk 1 mile along the beach (when permitted - we were told that the week before we arrived, much of the sand further along the beach had washed away and left coral pieces, but it was back within a couple of days). It was safe to walk along the beach/run along the beach. You can run up to just before the Cliff Restaurant. You could chance your luck along the roads, but footpaths are intermittent and the traffic constant. Spa - we had 3 treatments (each adult) as part of our room. Treatments were very nice. Cons - Family pool - looks better than in the pictures as there were potted palms placed around the pool. It was quiet, but could be prettied up a bit more to make it more appealing. Theres a lot of 'paperwork' on arrival - a bit overwhelming as all you want to do is get to your room and get your holiday started. Paperwork is regarding spa use, other hotel use, rules and do's and don'ts (felt a little bit like we were being told off at one point as it was delivered in a negative way) - but the rum punch arrival drink helped! Practicals - Take plenty of insect repellent and keep applying it every couple of hours. Unfortunately our friend struck bad luck and was bitten in the daytime by sandflies and had to go and seek some medical attention in Holetown, their advice was to put insect spray on in the day too. This was bad luck as the rest of us were fine. Don't swim over (touch) the rope that cordons off the swim area as you will end up with a rash. Perhaps they ought to warn people of this. Bathroom products - Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shower cap, ladies box (nail file, tampon, cotton bud), soap by the sink and moisturiser by the sink. They are Paya branded and very nice. Shampoo and conditioner do a great job. Theres a decent hairdryer in the room. I took my Dyson Airwrap - but it wouldn't work out there. Dressing gowns in the room. There are NO guest slippers, which I would have liked as I always use these in hotel rooms. There is an ironing board, iron, clothes horse on the balcony and a safe. If you want to tip, get small some denomination Barbadian dollars or $1 US dollars before you go. Local buses are plentiful and theres a bus stop to Holetown right outside the hotel. $3.50 each. Very friendly - although on one journey a chap pulled up who was taxiing between the Elegance hotels and offered to take us to Holetown for slightly cheaper than the bus rate - so we hopped in! Try Paul Paynes Tours (he will show up on the beach) - it was his cousin Winston Clarke that took us on our Island tour and he was fabulous! Very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We went to the Plantation and the Flower Cave - both interesting and good trips. Would I go back to Barbados - Yes, would I recommend the hotel - yes. I'd go back tomorrow :)
