Upscale Resort On The Beach
I'm a fan of Marriott, so this is the first time I've been to Maui and it did not disappoint. Ocean view room (if you want to be directly facing the beach you must specify "ocean front") so I had a partial view of the ocean. Nice 30 foot water slides for the kids, nice pools separating adults from children, very good food at all the restaurants and located next to a shopping mall with upscale stores. Finding the entrance is a little difficult from the road because there is only one sign when coming from a certain direction so keep an eye out for a sign that says "Andaz" and make a right into the next available driveway. Or cut through the aforementioned shopping mall to get to covered parking, which always had spots available. No complaints other than if you get the free intro to scuba diving feature as part of your room package, be aware that you must also purchase an ocean dive package. This was different from the J.W. Marriott package in Cancun, so we canceled because the kids didn't want to go into the ocean and dive. I'd asked the activities desk what the catch was for the free scuba intro and wasn't aware of this until the dive company called me in advance to tell me, so that was annoying but that's the only glitch. If your room isn't ready when you check in, you will have access to a pretty nice lounge with amenities like showers, snacks and other nice creature comforts. Highly recommend.
We were here for business and pleasure. My company just finished our conference here but we extended our stay for some alone time for just my wife and I, We’re in our low 30’s. Food was great, room was great with no problems with maid service, a/c or shower. We did have a prime room that walked right out to the serenity pool. My problem is, for a quality place such as this, everything shuts down at around 8:30-9:00. Restaurants, pool lounge areas, everything. They cut the bon fires off, kill the lights and music and just stop everything. My opinion is for a vacation spot such as this, a resort, it needs to stay open later. I’ve been to a number of resorts where there is a night life to have AT the resort you’re staying at, just not here, it was disappointing.
It is a gorgeous hotel, with 6 pools, the infinity pool with beautiful sea views and the kids pool with huge water slides and deep enough for kids to have fun but shallow such that you do not need to be with your 5 yr old all the time in the water. Plenty of pool lounger space but better ones taken early. Good restaurant choices and a fancy supermarket with sushi and poke 2 min walk. Multiple spots to sit, swing, relax, well equipped play room with video games, board games (freezing AC though). Nespresso and good tea bags in the room. Could not fault it!! My only criticisms relate to three things. As a member of Marriot Bonvoy I was asked twice if I needed anything – I asked via email and on web if we could have a microwave in the room – nobody ever replied. When checking in I was asked to provide a phone number to be informed when the room was ready – the check in was 4 pm. Never received a call – had to go to the desk to check. And the best one – we were there during Maui fires – and since we are from Australia where fires are taken very seriously we asked the reception of what was going on as there was ash falling from the sky and the sky was brown. We were reassured that staff were looking into it but the response was vague, no instructions were given and the whole thing was ignored until about 8 pm when we received a notice in our room that the phone lines were cut off, the roads out were blocked and we should …. be encouraged to in the hotel. That was a pretty lame way of handling what was a major emergency for Maui and I would hope that in the future they will be more on top of things. Having said that, if you have a chance to stay there, you will LOVE it!
LOVED EVERY MOMENT
We just came home from an 8-day stay for our honeymoon and my husband’s birthday. We had an incredible time. The hotel is in a beautiful location with some breathtaking views. We had some amazing service throughout our stay. Check in was easy and our room was ready right away. We were located in the main building and it worked well for us. We had spa treatments, rented a cabana by the infinity pool (twice), sampled the different eateries onsite and attended the luau. Everything we did we loved. The luau was reallt awesome as my new husband was selected for the solo dance. It was amazing. The marketplace and shops within walking distance was also really great. Highly recommend this hotel!!
Don’t pay attention to all the negative reviews. Make your own judgment after your stay. I will say as long as you’re vocal of your likes and dislikes you’d be taken care of. With that said I have to say that every person that we came across beginning with Clement at check-in to Shaun who would deliver the room service to Aime at front desk and Fraida who made sure everything was in right place in the grand Lana’i was very warm and welcoming. All the hotel employees were nice and polite. As with any establishment there will always be some employees who may not come across warm but that shouldn’t spoil your stay. Yes some servers do come across terse like at the nalu pool and the bar lady didn’t come across warm either, these employees it felt like were doing what was required of their job, I don’t know if it was because they work for tips? But they should be working harder if they expected to be tipped well. So, yes they should be doing better because it is not cheap to stay here. We had a little hiccup with our room situation night before the arrival but Clement solved it at checkin. Couple weeks prior my wife had called the hotel to arrange something for our little one’s birthday and sure they did. There was a nice welcome birthday cake waiting in the room on the first evening there. Then Aime had something done in our room on our little one’s birthday, it might be nothing for the hotel but for our little one it was the most amazing thing she got, so thank you so much to Aime and the staff for that. There is a little issue with the chairs at the Nalu (slides) pool, people take two chairs and are not even there, so you have to wait and see for open chairs. But here is a trick, in the afternoon after 3 there are usually chairs open and the sun is not blazing overhead so it was perfect time to be at the pool. The Ohi pool always had open chairs. The nalu pool does keep the kids occupied and even the adults with their 4 slides. One thing we noticed that there were people always cleaning around the hotel keeping it in shape, didn’t matter time of the day, like we met Fraida who would continually straighten the Grand Lana’i at 8.30p in the evening or person in the game room keeping it straight. So the hotel has employees who keep the hotel premises straight. Not to forget Andrew and other at the Valet were always nice and polite. So I have to say in all hotel did go above to make our stay special. I don’t know what expectations people have when they stay at Ritz Carlton, St. Regis or Four Seasons but Wailea Beach Marriott did meet our every demands with warmth.
