Didn't Feel Safe
I went with a group on a cruise ship package from West Palm Beach. The check-in process was exceedingly slow and inefficient. If you had any questions after leaving the desk or wanted equipment for ping pong you had to wait another hour in line. We encountered another long long line for the buffet that day as well. The pool and beach faciities were nice and the shows at night were fun. The bartenders were friendly and made excellent drinks. The room was in need of an update with leaking faucets, battered door jambs and an air-conditioner fan that kicked in every 15 minutes like a jet plane taking off. The main reason I would never go back is the safety issue. Two people in our group had intruders break down the adjoining room door in the middle of the night and enter their room. Another person in our group awoke from an afternoon nap to find his patio door open and his cell phone gone from the nightstand. The hotel is surrounded by a tall fence topped with barbed wire but we saw a place where it had been bent over. On the other side was an isolated road with little traffic. Our room was quite far from the main facilities and a scary walk at night.
Dove with Reef Oasis Dive Club
I stayed at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach resort for ten days and it was fantastic. I stayed there a few years ago and had such a good time that we decided to return for a second visit. I was there for the scuba diving and not for the daily entertainment. The Reef Oasis Dive Club (A PADI shop) is run by Michael is he does a fantastic job. When necessary, he kept us informed as to what was going on and frequently checked with my group to make sure all was going well. He responded quickly to any issue that arose and made sure it was addressed. The dive pros we worked with included: Luca Marco Basil Jaron All in all, the Reef Oasis operation is top notch. They were professional while also being personable. They dives were so much more enjoyable because the captain and the crew were as pleasant as they were. As for the resort, the food was pretty good and the rooms were nice. We had an ocean view room and the views were beautiful. If you were hungry at the end of the day it is because you did not go to dinner. Truly there was something for every pallet, with the focus changing several nights to add variety to the menu. Also, there are several restaurants to which you must make reservations. Do this, they are a pleasant experience. They have shows every night and since I was diving I only got to see the music show on the last night I was there. It was very entertaining. I have no reservations in recommending Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach and the Reef Oasis Dive Club. Go there!
Spent a week here for our special 40th anniversay.
We paid for an ocean view room and a King size bed. My wife needs a rolling walker to get around with her disability. So we only asked for a bottom floor room cause steps to the second floor would be too difficult. So they placed us in a full ADA room #1135. What a view of the ocean with the trapeze and towel hut in our face and the ocean behind it. Also the ADA room only had a queen size bed, We had no idea that this place would be bringing in cruise ship visitors continuously and they would DJ parties till 12 midnight at the main bar. OH boy, hearing the BOOM, BOOM, BOOM just about every night when all we wanted was a warm relaxing get away for our anniversary. The positives about the whole trip were the staff and the services. All the workers were great. Especially our cleaning lady, Angelique and the other support cleaning crew. We did feel at home out around the place. But you have to watch out on the beach, cause you do have near by neighbors who are trying to hustle you for money, trying to sell you shells, coconuts and other questionable things. That was kind of a pain in the ass, cause they just won't leave you alone, but they were not allowed to stay on the property and had to hang by the waters edge. The ocean was a beautiful 86 degrees. We were rather disappointed to not see much of any tropical fish in the water or while snorkeling. It was most likely due to the bad hurricane they had in 2016 and it looked like the reef was wiped out or badly damaged. We would definitely go back again even with some of the inconveniences we had. Just have to find a time when no cruise ships have party folks staying
Friendly staff and a nice getaway from the city vibe
Our experience in the resort has been really amazing and relaxing! It was a great vacation away from the city. Just coming close to the relaxing vibe of the beach is satisfying itself, but the nice selection of food at the buffet, activities offered, and the nice friendly staff made a difference as well. We would like to personally thank the staff particularly Betty, Ziko, Roberto, and Manuela for making our stay fantastic! All of them work really hard from sunrise to sundown. They put their very best on what they do which you won't see all the time in other vacation places. We wish you all well! All the best!
Won't return to this resort.
The staff members were nice and helpful. The food was average. The beach was lovely. The bathtub faucet in our room was difficult to turn on; only a trickle of water came from the shower head. Three people in a room with only one bottle of water to welcome us. The room needs renovation. The bartender was gross; he used a guest's drink glass to mix a drink with the shaker instead of using a fresh glass (unhealthy practices). The wheelchair we used for my mother was rusted, the brakes were nonfunctional, and the seat padding was coming apart. I suggest training for the staff and continuous maintenance on the property. An ATM machine on the property would be great too.
