The beach was beautiful...the room was okay...from there it went down hill. No air conditioning in ANY of the restaurants . No pool bar...to get a drink you have to go up a flight of steps. NO drinks what so ever are allowed in the pool ..not even if you are just sitting on the edge dangling your legs in the water. The pool is very very small and heats up fast...so by noon you feel like you are bath water ( I am not kidding). You are given three bottle of water in your fridge in your room and three cans of pop. No one told us when the water is gone you were supposed to go refill them. I don't know where you could refill them because all the water dispensers had a sign on them that said no bottle refill. The food i would rate a D- at the best. My husband got sick the third day and i got sick the very next day...we stayed ten nights. We have NEVER got sick at any other resort. No music at the pool area ...if they did decide to play something it was elevator music and was kept down really low. There were no pool games only early morning aerobics...probably because the water was so warm. There are signs on the tables in the evening that say ...shhhh...quiet. I guess no one is allowed to have fun. My daughter and her hubby and their two old came down to surprise us. They had trouble getting water too...even though they told the people at the desk they needed it to make formula for their son. They were told IF they had any pop left they could swap it out for some water!! This is the worse vacation we have ever taken ....we will never stay at a Wyndham ever again.
The only reason I give this resort 3 stars is for the amazing entertainment staff, the Kids club staff and the all the other staff members with the exception of the Lobby staff. The food and the drinks were not really what you expect to receive from an all- inclusive resort. The food was basically the same every day , they just changed the location so you thought it was different. Most of the food was reheated the next day with 1 or 2 new items that you had to search for. Just imagine that they reused the hamburger buns with sesame seeds and used them for french toast(never saw this before). The worst is that the few things that could be eaten were saturated with salt and not edible. The worst joke was that they had a Barbecue night and it was just a tray of chicken slathered in bbq sauce everything else was the food from the previous night. I saw people go out to the shopping mall in Playacar and come back with food and six packs of beer and have other guests go up to them and ask where they could buy food and beer because they were tired of the Resort food and terrible beer. This resort is still stuck in the late 80's or 90's. Ugly and uncomfortable rooms. They apparently installed a tub over the original tub and now it sits 2 feet above the floor so when you get in or out you need a step stool. The shower head is never above your head, you have to lower yourself to get your head wet (good thing I'm not tall, but my kids are and they just complained and complained). The check in was also ridiculous. I booked 2 rooms through Expedia and made sure to call the Resort and ask them to have joining rooms or at the very least be close by, I also informed them that I had booked a King size bed in 1 of the rooms which the person said that they cannot guarantee but would put it in the system. When we arrive for check in the gentleman gives us the room numbers and I ask if they were close to each other and he says no they are on different floors. They still asked us to look at the rooms to see if we wanted them. These were the reject rooms apparently no one wanted. After getting mad in the Lobby after seeing these rooms, I said that I was not going to accept the rooms and that they needed to find me something else even if I had to pay more or give me a phone so that I can make a reservation in a different hotel. Voila!!! They suddenly have 2 rooms on the same floor 3 doors from each other, 1 with a king and 1 with 2 double beds. I did notice that this was common practice of changing rooms for guests and when they complained, give them what they booked. The marketing of the Resort is great because they get you with the "if you stay here you can use the facilities at Viva Maya which is a newer hotel and looks much better than this one. I should have saved money and just stayed in the Maya instead. If you are on a budget then I guess this place is OK. I have seen better for less money than I paid for this Resort. If it wasn't for the Staff, it would have been worse
Had a really good experience at this hotel it was my first trip to Mexico and the staff made me feel very welcome. The room was clean had no problem using WiFi in my room. There’s a good variety of food. Staff are very pleasant
I booked this resort because it was on the less expensive side and the reviews were decent. Like they say, "you get what you pay for". The positive: The resort is spotless, the chairs on the beach under the palm trees were relaxing and shady, our pool view room was large and comfortable. Now, the negative: The food is terrible! We ate in the buffet and both restaurants during our week there. The buffet offered many different choices, but the quality was poor. Many items were bland and dry. At the end of the week we were only eating fresh fruit, rolls, and steamed veggies to be safe. Even the butter was awful. The restaurants were no better. There was a couple next to us at one of the restaurants and when the server asked them how the meal was the woman responded that it was 'inedible'. We found the staff to be just mediocre, not friendly, but not rude either. Drinks were also just ok. The one white wine they had tasted like the cheapest chardonnay you could find in the States. The pool area didn't have enough lounge chairs and because we got there after 9:00 a.m., we never got one. The pool and entire resort has tile that is dangerously slippery when walking around. We had high hopes for this resort. Next time, I'll spend more money and stay elsewhere.
From 4 Stars to 1
Definitely not four star rooms. But we just spent a lovely week here until things hit the fan at checkout. First there was unexpected tax. Ok fine. Then we thought we’d lost the room keys and had to pay $10. Annoying but ok sure. Then it turned out that we had the room keys but it was the towel keys we lost. That’ll be $20 each! I refused, arguing ensued, they told me we couldn’t leave the property... it was ridiculous. We took our bags back to look for they keys again, and were planning to bolt out the side exit. But then my fiancée found the keys in his swimsuit! Cool. Ok now give me back the $10 I paid for the room keys we thought were lost. Oh no we already gave that back...more arguing, more and more staff involved. I counted my money out over and over. They said ok we’ll check the tape. Umm no. I just said fine, whatever. I can see that you think I’m lying and won’t return my money. It was a completely ridiculous scene and a sour note on what had been a lovely time. As far as the resort itself... Pros: Grounds and pool are gorgeous. Beach is huge. Buffet is consistently good. Drinks are good, though definitely watered down. Water is hot. Lots of activities and shows. Access to the Wyndham Maya resort too- not as nice IMO but special restaurants are better. Cons: Rooms are 2 star level at best. Uncomfortable beds and lumpy pillows. Weird shower- hits at mid chest, had to take awkward bath/showers sitting down. Alcohol is definitely cut- either that or I suddenly have twice the tolerance I had before. Very loud- thin walls, loud shows, don’t expect to sleep before midnight. Tips: Fill your water titles even though they say you can’t. It’s ridiculous how they control water. Try to get a room nearer the pool area because I think they might be quieter. Bring earplugs. Expect to get shortchanged here and there.
