Awesome service, good food, great beach!

This was our first time to VH Grand (june 4 to June 11) and second time to Puerto Plata, we really enjoyed this trip!! Here is a breakdown of our travels; Food- There was six of us that travelled in the group and one had a gluten allergy which the resort staff was very accommodating to her diet! She would notify the staff a little before lunch, dinner etc and they would make arrangements for the food or bring her thru the buffet and telling her if it was gluten free or not. As for the a la cartes they were good except we weren't that fond of the Italian restaurant. Room - The rooms were very clean and well stocked with water/beer, towels, shampoo, soap etc. you do have to pay for a safe however which is a downfall Tours - we did a catamaran tour which went to Soulsa bay I think it was nice we went snorkeling, beer and rum on the boat, plus lunch which was sandwich and salads. Also we did a Puerto Plata city tour where we visited the chocolate factory, rum factory, a battery(War base) overall this was nice but took longer than half a day so have a good breakfast as there is no lunch provided. Special Thanks to Junior Westjet tour organizer for the help! Beach - the beach here is very nice and you can walk a long distance. If you leave the resort and walk left on the beach about 45 min down there is a market which is very nice lots of vendors but everyone was very friendly. Don't be afraid of saying no lol! If you walk to the right on the beach there are a couple more resorts then again open beach for a long ways. There were lots of beds and shade on the beach and if you bring a peice of bread in the water you can feed the fish. Pool - Because we were down during the off season the pool wasn't crowded and lots of places to sit but not sure how it would be in the busy season. There was lots of debris floating in the water from the plants to bird poop. Yup there are a ton of birds around and sometimes you could see poop in the water that was a big gross, but each day it would be cleaned up so early morning swims are good haha. Shopping - there is a mall not too far of a walk that has stores with everything in them including Cialis haha. Also there are plenty of vendors on the beach selling all kinds of stuff but you have to bargain hard as the markup is crazy here. We found there was a couple of vendors were a bit pushy but most part they were good once we said no they walked away. Service - Last but certainly not least the main reason we enjoyed our stay and would return is because of the people. Everyone for the most part had a smile on their face and spoke to you either good morning or asking how you were. There are a lot of great people serving here but the most Awesome was Sarita Jsm Joel the bartender at the pool and vintage club! This guy deserves a raise, many days at the pool he was service by himself in 30 degrees heat with a smile on his face cracking jokes having fun truly a awesome guy. Our last morning there we walked into the Vintage club and before I sat down he had Caesars ready to drink. Thanks Joel for being a friendly face hope we get to sit down and chat again soon oh and GO RAPTORS haha! Recommendations - The Royal Package is well worth the money just to have the nice beds on the beach with a server for you, and the vintage club were you can go to a excellent cocktail before dinner or unwind in the evening. Thanks again VH Gran for the excellent vacation!!! We will be back i am sure.

GOOD TIME AT THE GRAND VENTANA

Traveled to Grand Ventana June 8th thru June 15 with 4 adults and 2 children (8 & 12). Rooms were a little dated with hard beds and dark bathrooms, but always cleaned very well. Frig stocked everyday. Resort was only 35-40% full, but no problems with restaurants being open.Buffet was always good, our party loved the pasta station. Pool and beach was never crowded and vendors were polite. Went golfing across the street, course was very nice, had a great caddy Anthony. Weather was perfect, hot, dry and a nice breeze at the beach. The staff could not have been friendlier, Felix at the buffet made my granddaughters week,he was so nice to her every morning and made sure he said good-bye on our last day. Over-all we all had a great time here and would return in the future. Thanks to all of you @ the Grand Ventana for a great week.

4 Star Resort with 5 Star Staff

We were back at GV at the end of April for three weeks but on this occasion I got to experience the hotel as a "disabled" guest after having a nasty fall 12 hours before leaving for the airport. Luckily I just had a badly strained quad and swollen left knee cap. This was confirmed by the Dr. on arrival back home. Thanks Solange (Fidelity/Vintage Club Manager) and Yohaira (Guest Services) for quickly locating me a walker which I used for the first two weeks. The first two weeks it was fairly busy as there were a lot of East coast visitors from Canada but there were lots of empty palapas on the beach and loungers around the pool. We also got to meet Terry and family from east coast and Bonnie and family from Ontario who I had communicated with on Trip Advisor. Our friends from Nova Scotia and Alberta were also there again. The weather communicated again so we had no missed beach days in three weeks with only two evenings of rain. With GV having the best stretch of beach on the Playa Dorada beach with the most shade and the longest stretch of beach, I did miss the daily beach walks but did go in the sea with the walker for ocean therapy as the salt helped my rehab. MCB always enjoys the snorkelling here right in front of the middle section. I did make use of the disability bathroom. If you are contemplating getting an upgrade, we recommend the premium upgrade which includes private beach area with waiter service, free WiFi, and access to the Vintage Club. We love the Vintage Club and MCB has a new drink, pineapple rum with 7 Up or Sprite which he discovered in January after we visited the Ron Macorix factory on a City Tour with our family. This drink is only served in the Vintage Club. We love the main buffet as there is so much variety and a lot of the food is cooked on stations right in front of the guests. Once again I was disappointed as there was no eggplant stew (a dish I found out about several years ago at this resort) but other than that no complaints. For those that like more of a snack type lunch, there is the beach restaurant which is Ocean Grill at night. Our favourite a la carte is the Octopus. For all guests please read through the information sheet given at reception as the location for booking a la cartes does change from high to low season. If you have upgrade, your concierge will do this booking. The staff at GV is the best and I will mention a few of the best. Sorry if I forget someone. Raul, Deny, Rosa, Andres, Felix in the main buffet. Juan (smoothie guy), Eduard Francisco (best egg man), Jose (Mikey) and Brownio in the kitchen, Santo, Hector chefs. Maria in Octopus, Agustin Joel and Salomon in Ocean Grill. Verenice, Yulissa, Yisel, Yacaury, Eunice, Laura and Jose Miguel in the Vintage Club. Thanks also to Solange, Miledys and Vilma for social media. Last but not least, thanks very much Pedro you and your staff are amazing and one of the reasons we keep coming back.

    "great value"

We stayed at this all inclusive beach resort with my family which consisted with 2 adults children & their significant other & a daughter with a 3 yrs. old. We stayed in the second room with a partial beach view, one stayed also in the second floor with the garden view, the rest stayed in the third floor with vaulted ceilings which made the rooms seem large. The rooms were spacious but the decorations was dated-bed was somewhat comfortable, not enough mirrors in the rooms only in the bathroom but the counter space was small & no clocks at all which was annoying. May I suggest they put a mirror by the big desk for the ladies and a clock by the bedside. They keep the rooms clean with plenty of water bottles, sodas, beer in the mini fridge-my husband likes diet sodas so he left a note & a couple dollars for the cleaning lady & it was done. The property is beautiful! The pool area with the bar was awesome! The beach just a short walk from the pool-the beach was clean, lots of beach area to enjoy with plenty of lounge chairs-staff right there to help you with whatever needs you have. Vendors are at the beach but they leave you alone if you say "no" or just ignore them. They do inflate their prices but you can haggle with them-better going to the mini mall, the prices are more reasonable & just a short walking distance from the resort. The restaurants had awesome staff & food but you can only eat once a week per restaurant with a reservation so if you stay for a week you only get to eat at the restaurant 3x's & the rest of your dinner you have to eat at the "buffet" which can get mundane even though the food was rotated & the staff are still awesome!-you eat at the "buffet" for breakfast & lunch too-they do serve late snack/food like pizza, hamburgers & fries from 11pm to 2am. The nightly entertainment was fair. In the weekends the resort has more guest due to the locals stay at the resort. Overall our family trip was awesome & we had a great time at the pool, beach, excursions to the waterfalls & Ocean World where we swam with the dolphins & sharks. Great family vacation with great overall value! Thank you Gran Ventana staff for making us feel welcome & takin care of us!

    A great time!

I visited this hotel with my two youngest children and my parents. Our room had partial ocean view on a second floor. My children enjoyed the pool area. There were activities by the pool so it made it easier to keep my kids entertained. My children however, are picky eaters. They ate bread, pizza and some fruit during our stay. I enjoyed my meals at the buffet. No stomach issues with anyone in our group. Afternoon drinks by the pool, were a little runny at times. Maybe they could use more frozen drink machines by the pool bar? The weekend was busy. There’s a beach snack area. You can have lunch by the beach. They had burgers, pizza, hot dogs, fries etc. There is a beach bar as well. Our room was kept clean and beers, water and coke were in the mini fridge. I was surprised by how Much we enjoyed this resort. It was clean, fun activities during the day and at night. I requested an extra bed for our room. The ladies by the kids club did an amazing job with keeping the kids busy and their night show was cute.
