A curious mix of 3-star and 5-star experiences
We ended up having a lovely week at the Westin Resort & Spa despite some significant hiccups early on which left a few bad first impressions. It took nearly 45 minutes of waiting to check in, as they were having trouble with the systems - and when we finally did so we were told that there was no lunch available because the kitchen electricity had failed. Eventually we had burgers when they got a back-up barbeque going, but not before we'd gotten pretty hungry. We were then woken up at 2am that night by someone banging loudly on our door - we never figured out who. The beach is lovely - we had some really nice walks along it and we were well away from the louder parts of the Spring Break crowd. I can't help feeling that the beach and restaurant is a little under-staffed, though: there are plenty on the beach who would order plenty more drinks, if only someone would wander over more than once an hour. The sports restaurant by the beach is also kind of disappointing - service is slow and the food ranges from decent (the ceviche) to awful (the nachos). So why four stars? We had a really enjoyable trip. The other restaurant - the Sea and Stones - is fantastic, and we had a wonderful evening sat at the best table there right by the waves. The food was delicious. We also found that - with the exception of Day 1 - the hotel staff were helpful, and they recommended to us trips like the Xenotes experience, which we enjoyed a lot. The room was spacious, the view was great, the bed was comfortable, they gave us free champagne after the 2am incident, and we got a great deal on the price - these things all nudge it towards four stars rather than three. We came away having had a lovely holiday.
Great hotel, absolute Value for money!
At the outset, let me clarify that this is not a 5 star property. However it is probably the best 4 star you could find in Cancun. And they are usually very competitively priced and hence, great value for money. As a Marriott Elite, I also got a fantastic suite, even though I had booked through Priceline, which is much appreciated. Tried their lounge also. The food was repetitive, but staff friendly and kept the beer and wine flowing. The property looks recently renovated and we found the public areas looking very good. Breakfast buffet was awesome. We had an issue with the AC where it wasn’t cold enough and Orthon at the front desk arranged a fan for us and followed up regularly to make sure we were comfortable. We were there for 10 days and couldn’t be more satisfied with our hotel choice.
Cancun Visit for my birthday
I loved this property. Francisco will take care of you at the pool bar. The fish tacos are amazing. Have a glass of wine at Sea and Stones at night watching the moon on the ocean. The oceanfront room is comfortable and amazing. We have already booked for one week this coming Christmas.
We stayed at this resort after receiving a Vistana preview offer for the Westin Vacation Club. As part of the presentation, we visited the Lagunamar which is much larger and nicer; our room was large and decent, but showing its age and not up to the Lagunamar. (This property is apparently slated for renovation.) We were in the Club section with a free breakfast and happy hour which was great. Emilio provided awesome service by the very relaxing pool and on the beach. We stayed mostly at the pool, but had an excellent beach view - and important for me - ample shade. The pool concierge Fernado visited often to make sure our needs were met and was a pleasure to talk to. Alfredo from the spa came around and provided a free 10 minute massage which convinced us to head to the spa for a full one from him that we much enjoyed! We had lunch a couple of times at the bar overlooking the larger, more active pool where Lorenzo took great care of us. Our personal concierge Matthew was in touch before arrival to assist us with any questions/reservations/etc. and was a big help. Overall, we had a great experience and will return to the Westin. Next, we'll try the Lagunamar, but expect to come back to this property as well!
Most reviews on here give this hotel were negative and we were nervous about the trip. We stayed in the Club area and it was great! Food was excellent for breakfast and happy hour. Although the room was slightly "older" it was very nice with great view of lagoon. Staff was always very helpful! The food for dinner at Arena sports bar was Amazing!! Beach was beautiful and never packed, always able to find a chair. I would stay here again, it was excellent
