A perfect holiday!
Our family (10 total) stayed at Westin for 9 days over Thanksgiving and found the services excellent, staff friendly and the rooms/bungalow style had an excellent spacious layout. We paid for the upgraded location, and it was worth it as we could easily walk to the pool and buffet style restaurant Mitra. We really enjoyed Manglar the seafood restaurant and Faisanella with Mediterranean. We were fortunate to get large party bookings in all restaurants with help from the Concierge ahead of our trip, which was very much appreciated travelling with a large family with multiple reservations. The housekeeping in our room was also very good and the staff was very friendly. We used the free boogie boards and snorkeling equipment that were included with our all-inclusive resort stay. For our massages we really enjoyed Sarah and her family who were located at the green massage tables located on the beach. Listening to the ocean during my heavenly deep tissue massage was excellent. Based on social media and Tripadvisor reviews we saw before our trip we reached out to Erik G) to organize 3 excursions for our group (he wears a blue google shirt and greets guests right as you enter the beach). He coordinated the La Leona Waterfall hike and tubing for us, which was big day out! The rapids were huge, due to heavy rain before our trip, and we all got a thrill out of it. google him. We also did the Monkey tour and saw big crocodiles and lots of monkeys and a sunset catamaran tour. Erik had great partners, and we even had the same driver/guide for 2 of our outings (Diego) and he would not have been any better. We also used Erik to coordinate horseback riding on the beach and that was fun for our kids, and we got beautiful photos during our ride. We have stayed at quite a few all-inclusive resorts over the years and the Westin is by far my favorite. The food was delicious, the beach was quiet and gorgeous, the staff and Costa Ricans in general were extremely friendly and the excursion and activities were a blast. I highly recommend this resort and the locals who make it so memorable.

Total scam
Total scam. The liquor is all watered down and cheap liquor refilled into expensive bottles. The buffet food is completely inedible. Gives all all-inclusives a bad name. My husband, our 2 teens, and I stayed here 8 days/ 7 nights. My husband and I have stayed in Costa Rica several times and adore it, we’ve also stayed at dozens of resorts worldwide (many all inclusive). We know what to expect and what to overlook. For the price and clout the Westin carries this was embarrassingly unacceptable. Weak drinks is expected but straight up scamming when you’re paying $2k a day is insane. We like good liquor, the first night my husband ordered a nice tequila to sip. They insisted he needed to get it in a drink, which he continued to refuse. Eventually, after paying an additional $14 on top of our daily rate, they gave him a perfectly clear reposado tequila that was obviously a drop of what he ordered mixed with mostly vodka and probably half water. This happened everywhere. They’re not even trying to hide it. The main bar even had a bottle of brown liquid that had been poured into a display ‘high end’ bottle of Kettle One; obviously by someone who didn’t understand vodka is never brown. When I asked for our money back for the shot they didn’t even acknowledge it, just upgraded us and tried to sweep it under the rug. This is obviously a complaint they get a lot. The restaurants were decent, some really great. Make reservations though because the buffet if you can’t get into a restaurant is so bad. Literally the epitome of American tailored mystery food. They also claim to have 24/7 bars and room service but that’s misleading. Only 1 bar at a time is always open so you have to traipse around the whole resort to get a single drink during normal hours. The main bars close around 6-8pm. Food isn’t available before 6:30am; which initially seems reasonable but in a place that’s light from 5:30am-5:30pm your internal clock gets a little wonky. Plus 2 of our excursions left early in the morning, and we had to leave earlier than that to get to the airport. Just seems like misleading advertising. Especially when there are dozens of people out and about in the resort during those times, clearly looking for breakfast or coffee. Two stars because property is stunning, rooms nice, bed comfortable, people incredible. Erik on the beach (google shirt, can’t miss him) planned 3 amazing excursions for us. We had an incredible vacation in spite of Westin. The incredible country, ecosystem, and people of Costa Rica deserve so much more than what this god awful, greedy, corporate Westin had to offer. Stay somewhere else, literally anywhere else.

Best vacation ever!
This place is a dream! We booked our week’s vacation at The Westin thru Costco. Everyday has been incredible! Our room is spacious, comfortable, quiet, clean with a great view of the lake and lots of wildlife. We start our day off with morning yoga at the beach with Eduardo. Eduardo is so personable and excellent in guiding us in yoga. We love doing yoga with an incredible view of the ocean. Rudy was another instructor who we really enjoyed. They were both so kind and gave us a great workout. For breakfast, every morning we eat at Mitra Market. We thought from the name that it would be a small coffee shop with bagels, etc…. Surprisingly, it’s a full service buffet with omelets, cheeses, meats, fresh fruit, local dishes, delicious coffee. I have a lot of dietary restrictions (gluten, garlic, onion, dairy intolerance). Mitra Market has plenty to offer so I could eat a hearty breakfast every morning. Mitra Market has a Mimosa station set up so you can make your own mimosas or Bloody Marys. They have amazing, fresh juices to mix with your champagne! Reservations at the resort: make sure you load the Westin app to your phone before arrival. Every Friday, you can schedule your reservations at the restaurants at the resort. The reservations get filled up quick so you’ve got to be on the ball. Otherwise, you’ll be eating at Mitra Market every night. Mitra Market is excellent but so are some of the restaurants. Faisanella was the 1st reservation we made. It’s the fanciest restaurant on the resort. The theme is Mediterranean. They did have some hummus, taboule dishes but we didn’t think it was strictly Mediterranean? We thought it more Americanized with steak & other dishes. We both enjoyed the meal but it wasn’t our favorite. Bamboo was one of our favorites! The menu is extensive. The atmosphere is exotic and romantic. The food is excellent! We wish we would have booked this restaurant numerous times. The wait staff was very attentive. We had a wonderful experience. Spirula was another excellent choice. I mentioned I had a garlic and wheat allergy - they went over and beyond to make sure there was no garlic in my courses. Miguel was the manager. He was so accommodating. Jose, our waiter, was also very attentive and attuned to my allergies. The food was phenomenal at this restaurant. For activities, we did the coffee tasting which was very cool. We also signed up for the bike tour with Eduardo. Thank you Westin for the absolute best vacation ever!!! We’ve been a lot of places but this resort is the best ever!

Not a 5-star experience
We returned after 7 years and were disappointed. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. This is not a 5 star resort. Spotty maid service, paper cups at the swim bar and the late night one! Seriously tacky. Washable plastic glasses would have been much better. Have to literally go under the locals' canopies to get to the beach. Souvenir, massages, horse rides. There was mo way to avoid them. 5 star resort?!!!! Food was good. Best part was the staff. Friendly and helpful. Only negative restaurant experience was at the Tapas place in the lobby. We ordered drinks After 20 minutes, flagged the waiter. Drinks arrived! Senior waiter came over to take our order. We ordered several dishes and asked if we could order more later. This was a personal affront to this individual. Our food arrived and we were completely ignored! Mentioned this to the hostess. Someone finally came by. The senior waiter completely ignored us. Great 35th celebration. Will not ever come back.

Great resort overall!
A really great resort. The staff are all kind, the property is beautiful, and the rooms were clean and well stocked! We did the all inclusive and we were a little saddened at the pay wall for items, still. The coffee shop was extra, golfing is extra, premium food items are extra, and some other things. We paid a lot to be here and did the all inclusive- we wanted the all inclusive! The beach is also a public beach and actually has a lot of trash around it. They provide buckets to clean up which is fun to do but sad at the conditions. The food was mediocre, truly. The Asian restaurant was definitely the best but it's very small and really hard to get into- we had to call the concierge like twice a day. The other restaurants were all fine and the buffet was fine but nothing amazing.
