Wonderful "Parentmoon" vacation
We have just returned from a wonderful 11 days at The Verandah resort with two other couple from the UK. We went after our son got married as a sort of "Parentmoon" .. We had always wanted to visit Antigua and loved the island and the people. The Verandah is a gorgeous resort and the cottages are perfect. Nearly every single one of the staff are excellent and very friendly. The food is good, although we have had better at some Mexican All Inclusive resorts. We did go to Nicole's which was good, but obviously an additional cost. The beach bar was by far our favorite place for lunch and dinner. The beach's are in nice coves, so never got rough and we were able to take out the boats and windsurfer. The drinks at all the bars were excellent. The room, although a little dated, feels very Caribbean. We loved playing the mini golf. We did go to the Pineapple Resort for the day and did not like it as much, although the lunch shack up the mountain is fun and the ribs were great. Another thing we liked, was that there was never any "Timeshare" or "Trips" pressure sales from anyone, something which you usually experience at other resorts.
Wonderful location, friendly and relaxing atmosphere!
This was our first visit to Antigua, having spent a few holidays in various locations in and around the Caribbean, we looking for somewhere different to try. The hotel was around 30 minutes drive from the airport and was glad we had a taxi driver who knew where the potholes were! We were welcomed with a rum punch and cold towels and then taken to our room by golf buggy. Most of the rooms were semidetached bungalow's and have varing views over the two bays that makes up the resort. The resort is built on hilly outcrops and so the bungalows are at different levels, but most will have a sea view of some description. Access around the resort is fairly easy, most of the activities and restaurants are around the main pool area, where there is free WiFi reception. There is a gym, a large buffet restaurant, the Buccaneer restaurant that has to be booked as well as Nicole's fine dining restaurant, for which there is an additional charge. There are a couple of other smaller pool areas, on of which is adult only with it's own small bar. The beaches are really safe, with gentle gradients, the main sports beach has Hobie Cat's, canoes, windsurfers, paddle boards and pedalos, the whole bay is well protected by a reef and gives the two inlets a very safe environment to participate in which ever activity you wish to have a go at! The rooms are spacious, the usual facilities are offered, with the addition of a microwave and fridge. Sliding doors open on to a balcony with table and chairs.
We have been here twice and also Pineapple Resort in the last 9 months. If you are a couple without kids trying to decide which resort to stay at, we suggest the Verandah for these two reasons: 1) the cottages are spacious and have gorgeous views of the bay and ocean, and 2) you dont have to line up at 8 am to make dinner reservations and save lounge chairs on the beach. We refuse to line up for food or set alarms for places to sit especially while on vacation! Both resorts have good food but sometimes hit and miss, hence this review title. We did notice an improvement in service and did not have to wait as long for dinner this last time. Nicole's was okay but not as good as the Pineapple Grill if you plan to upgrade your dinner. Definitely will return for some more R&R and maybe to the new Hammock Cove sometime too.
This resort is very well planned with ‘suites’ built all around the bay. Giving all accommodations view of the peaceful bay or Beach. Yes there is walking involved to the main pool/ restaurant areas but You can order a golf buggy to take you wherever you need to go on the resort. Fantastic resort for children. A kids club many activities available. There is a quiet adults only pool although the only disappoint was the bar for this area was poorly stocked . Food very good , the buffet giving a different culinary choice every evening, Italian,Mexican, Asian etc etc. TheBeach Bar & Grill was fabulous With relaxed dining and fantastic views. All the staff very attentive, friendly and so helpful. We will be back,
Fun chilled out place
Really enjoyed our week here at Halloween- beaches were, while small, were quiet and beautiful (can also go to long beach next door for a bigger beach if you want), restaurants/beach bars were good with good food (even the buffet), bars were good with a nice chilled out vibe. Whole resort was friendly- staff & other guests. Rooms while not fancy were Caribbean in style, bright, spacious with a good shower & comfy bed. It was low season and there was no problem getting sun loungers or golf buggy lifts. A nice touch is the music, at the bars and pool there was great music played, added to the atmosphere and chilled out vibe of the place. Even enjoyed the evening entertainment and I can’t often say that! Also enjoyed the Calypso Cat snorkelling trip- the boat crew were great fun and really friendly. I have been to fancier, posher resorts on holiday but would take The Verandah’s relaxed friendly vibe over them any day. The resort was perfect for a family holiday, especially with the water sports equipment and top notch mini golf for a bit of variety with the kids. Everyone staying at the resort was really friendly which was nice, English, Irish, Canadian and American predominantly. We will definitely be back, loved it! Special thanks to Sandra who was very friendly and the staff at the beach bar and entertainment staff who made such a fuss over r daughter’s 12th birthday - you women can really sing! It made her night. 😊
