Lovely hotel. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious with a lovely varandah. We only had issues with the hot water. They did come and fix it several times but it was either too hot or too cold. They managed to kind of fix it towards the end of our stay but it could have been fixed sooner. The location of hotel is quite secluded i.e there is not much going on outside. The nearest supermarkets are 30 mins away by taxi in St Johns therefore if you have a kids you will need to stock up on items before you come over. It would be good if there was a promenade with a few shops somewhere nearby if you need to by essentials or a few souvenirs. Overall lovely hotel and was happy with our stay.
We chose the Caribbean as an anniversary destination and Virgin holidays came up with Antigua. After a bit of research we chose the Verandah hotel for the bungalow accommodation and spectacular sea views. The hotel did not disappoint with everything as described in their online brochure. Very clean well appointed comfortable and for us a pleasure to be independent and quiet in the room but only a short distance to the hub of the pool, beaches main bar and restaurants. The food was very good with plenty of choices. Minor irritations were 48 hr advanced booking for the Bar Grill, Buccaneer and Nicole (40$ surcharge) so we never went, and the current construction work on the Hammock sister hotel. Neither of these would stop us going again or recommending this hotel. We had a hire car for the week and used it to visit most of the island. Driving around was easy and our smartphone directions meant we were never lost. Antigua is a beautiful island not yet spoilt by over developed tourism but this might be a future problem as the economy is heavily reliant on tourist income. Finally a must visit recommendation is the men’s barbers in Pares where I met the most friendly hairdresser who was formerly in the West Ham football academy. He proudly showed us a picture on his wall of Harry Rednap with his arm around the shoulders of a much younger “barber”. We were even treated to the BBC online news to make us feel special ! Two beautiful unspoilt beaches were HalfMoon Bay beach in the south and Darkwood beach in the West.
We spent May 18-23 at this resort after switching from Royalton and I'm sooooo glad we did! I loved everything about this resort. The food was good although breakfast never really changed and the staff was very friendly. It was exactly the way I wanted it to be...peaceful. However, they could improve on the golf cart shuttles to run a little more frequent. The Pink Panther Tour was awesome! We also did Stingray City...and Shirley Heights...A-mazing!!
Beautiful place and wonderful people!
We came to the verandah in a group of 9! I really can't complain about the resort, plenty of food and great choice. They would even cook specific items for fussy eaters. We got married there and everything was perfect! They arranged everything to the small details. Plenty of activities to do, we hired the boat for a day and was a wonderful trip. Highly recommend! I simply can not fault the place!!!
Visit number 7 :0)
We have just returned from our 7th consecutive visit to the Verandah. We are a family of 4 ( 2 boys 14 and 9) and we just adore this place. It suits us that we visit during a quiet period and do as much or as little as we want. Room great as ever, food good, we ate at all restaurants and enjoyed the pool party on a Tuesday evening. Pool and beach great, never a problem getting a shaded lounger no matter what time of day. Always plenty of towels available. Entertainment good. Kids club great for when our youngest needed some time out of the sun. Rose is great and enjoys the kids company. Just a heads up the kids club isn't really open in the evening because it's such a quiet time at the resort at the moment, but come July I'm sure it will be back to normal hours. There are plenty of activities that are put on throughout the day, things like trivia, water aerobics, dialect classes, rum tasting, the list goes on! The staff are amazing! We are treated like old friends when we return and this is one of the reasons we return. Special thanks to Neil Stevens for his great kindness and hospitality, a great friend who goes above and beyond to make sure you have a great holiday, also to Ariel, Vonetta, Iran, Rosemund, Jahneilie, Lorenzo and Andrea. All the staff are a true asset to the Verandah all so kind, friendly and helpful. Thank you all so much and hopefully see you all again soon!
