awesome food & drinks! Fun atmosphere
Everything was great from the food & drinks to the nightly shows.. just two blocks from 5th ave filled with stores, bars & restaurants. We had a blast.. love Marcus our waiter from the buffet he was very attentive..the only negative is thing is getting caught up in their promotions only to find out you have to attend a 90 min presentation about a weird pyramid/time share thing the next day, stay away from that but everything else was amazing! Thank you Carolina and Sergio from concierge for all your help. Mr clean you need an attitude adjustment.
Food terrible Beach not impressed Poor communication for Americans Had to leave daily due to food and beach issues Rooms daily smelled like sewer Mike in customer service amazing Honeymoon not impressed
Smaller property on the edge of Playa
The hotel was well looked after but could use a bit of an update. We will definitely stay here again. I have mobility issues so it was nice to be at a smaller property where all the amenities are close by. Pool was great, it was too bad a lot of chairs had towels on them early in the morning but the people didn't show up until later in the day. We took enjoyed a couples massage late in our stay and wish we had time for more! I highly recommend having a massage. Although it can be said you can walk to 5th ave shopping, the first few blocks have little to see. We always felt safe, security was very good and there is a police station just up the street. Food was tasty, plentiful and there was a good variety from one day to the next. The Japanese experience was awesome. The nightly entertainment was very good as well. I have been to a few resorts and can tell that there was an effort put into each performance. Some places I have been to seemed amateurish but not at Reef Coco Beach. Overall a very nice property and look forward to coming again.
Good Enough Place to Spend a Few Days!
The overall trip to The Reef Coco Beach was great. For specifics, there is no ocean if you want to swim. The seaweed but did not bother us after a couple days. We found this resort after canceling a trip to the DR. There were not that many choices of foods and restaurants to choose from. The people were wonderful and always very nice. We stayed for 7 days and after day 4, we were over the food. Loved the atmosphere and the people. I would not go back to this resort due to the limited restaurants. For the money it was not bad. The entertainment was fun and good. I do feel like more communication as to the nightly programs would of been more helpful to assist with planning our day.
Average at best, small and low key
This resort is deceiving. The photos are nothing like the actual property. It is located in a lower class area of town and which diminishes its appearance. The beach is very small with not much room for guests and the seaweed is a major problem - you can smell it immediately once you step foot on the property. The lobby is hot and lacks any pizazz or entertainment for the guests which made it quite dull. The rooms are subpar and need numerous repairs. Our shower leaked tremendously and our patio door was stuck which made it nearly impossible to open and close. The thermostats are unable to be adjusted as well, therefore our room was freezing cold. Igloo cold! The best part of the property is the pool. It is lively and spacious, and the staff is very interactive and friendly. However there is residue all around the tile backsplash that had to be cleaned numerous times throughout the day. This residue was also all over the upper part of my swimsuit which was bothersome. The food is not terrible, but not amazing either. Just ok. Not much variety at the buffet from day to day unfortunately, it’s the same stuff. The restaurants are no better as the portions are small and the service is slow. The waitstaff is incompetent and are very inattentive. The shows each evening are enjoyable however that is the only entertainment offered at night which is disappointing. There is nothing to do in the evening on the property other than sit in the lobby or outside near the pool. There is a “sports bar” on site, but it’s very small. It’s also not a sports bar per se... it’s a small space tucked behind the restaurants with pictures of athletes on the wall. All in all, just an ok experience. It was definitely not worth the price. If I were to ever visit Playa Del Carmen again I would spend more money for a larger, luxury resort to ensure I got more bang for my buck.
