The BEST Staff & Hotel Experience on Oahu!
I'm a local wedding planner on Oahu, and used The Kahala to book a room block for the family of my bride & groom. While we were not using The Kahala for the actual wedding, the staff at The Kahala still treated us like VIPs from start to finish. I was able to check in with the booking department frequently and always received very quick responses. When it came to dropping off Welcome Baskets to our guests rooms, they didn't even blink an eye and handled getting each guest a basket in their room (which the guests adored!). After my guests checked in, the Mother of Bride was concerned about finding a private space to play some bridge with her friends while they were staying there, and the Kahala team gave her great advice and suggestions on how/where to do this. I cannot express enough my gratitude for The Kahala taking care of my guests like their own family, and I am not a lifelong fan of this hotel. Special thanks to Kelly, Susan, James (the concierge with the mostest!) & Janice!
I'm fortunate to have friends who live near the Kahala Resort. We make at least 2 trips to the Plumeria Restaurant at least twice when I visit. The service is outstanding and the food sublime. The portions are generous and presentations are quite generous. The restaurant is an open air beach side venue with both outside and inside service.
Bad start but after that it was great
We had a difficult start to our stay at the Kahala. We came from the Four Seasons on the Big Island and it was an oasis with the most attentive service. So when we arrived at the Kahala we had expected the same type of service. Not so much. No bell man seemed interested when our taxi pulled up so we carried our own luggage through the busy lobby to the not so well marked reception desk. We waited in line and then while the person behind the desk was friendly she was not particularly helpful. We arrived around noon and our room was not ready. This was a big disappointment since we were only in Oahu for two nights so we had only a day and a half to enjoy the resort. We had planned to go to our room and head off to the beach and explore. They offered us the use of the hospitality suite while we waited for our room to be ready (after the bellman had already stored our luggage). The reception desk did not really give us directions to the hospitality suite or how it worked. So we had to figure out how to get our bags from the bellman and find the hospitality suite. The hospitality suite only had two small changing rooms (which were in use) so we had to change in the bathroom. It was less than ideal. Then we had to get the bellman back to store our luggage again. It was a hot and annoying start to the stay. When we got to the pool/beach area it was chaotic and busy. It was not what we had expected. We had lunch and played in the ocean and it made us feel a bit better but not really relaxed. We finally got our room at three. Which was just enough time to get changed and ready for our 4pm dolphin experience. The dolphin experience was awesome. We had a great time. And our room was excellent (1217 overlooking the dolphin pond). The room was large and spacious. The housekeeping was also super efficient. They got us extra towels within 5 minutes of asking for them and also got us a pull away bed - also within minutes of asking. I would highly recommend the rooms overlooking the dolphins. We were on the second floor and from our balcony had an excellent view of the dolphins swimming. In the morning we had fun watching them playing with each other for hours. Room service breakfast was fast and good. And the service at the beach was great. We did not get to the beach until around 10:30 so I was worried we would not find a place to sit in the shade. No need to worry. They found us four chairs in the shade under some trees on a grassy part of the beach. It was a lovely day at the beach. The water is great for kids. Not much sea life to look at but an easy place for kids to play safely in the ocean. On the whole we enjoyed our stay but would not plan for an relaxing check in and I would not plan on the hospitality suite being all that hospitable.
Quiet and beautiful with views that g one for miles. On-site dining was great and the staff a delight. A bit remote if you want the nightlife of Honolulu, but that's not why you're here, right? Easy to get out an explore the island if you don't want to deal with the city.
