Martin was great with us, very nice and helpful. Chef Otoniel, Ricardo, Javier and Laura. The dishes were great, Martin made sure we had the best time at the Thai. He was awesome, the best at the resort, Manager Veronica.
Koh Thai Restaurant
I booked this resort since my friend recommended it. And my goodness, it has been a fabulous time! Our suite was amazing and the food here is ultra gourmet. Koh Thai restaurant requires reservations but I can see why. The food is a must here! Thai in Mexico? Yes! We had a fantastic romantic dinner here with a wonderful server, Martin. He was super charismatic and made the experience even better. Shout out to the chef's Manning the wok, Ricardo, Javier, and Laura. We loved all the dishes here and the short rib and pad sew dishes were our favourite. The apple dessert is definitely recommended. Thanks for such a gourmet experience! Mucho gracias.
I am baffled by the amount of good/great reviews this resort is receiving. I just got back from a vacation with my family and another couple to Mexico. We booked this resort based on the amazing reviews, unfortunately we were all very disappointed. Let me start by saying that I don't typically write reviews because others have done a well enough job that I don't feel its needed but this was an exception. Also I would not consider myself to be high maintenance or overly critical but again, this was an exception. We booked a Two Bedroom Penthouse Resort Residence which includes a roof deck. This room was in Villa 14, it needed a lot of maintenance and was not being kept up with. First, one of the bedrooms did not have a working A/C and a few other broken pieces of furniture. The main living area which has a kitchen, dining, and living room space, was pretty dirty. The refrigerator had hand prints and smudges all over, couch had stains and sand on it, and overall needed major updates. The master bedroom shower had limescale covering the shower head, there was a weird smell that came from the shower when the water was running. I think I felt dirtier after the shower than I did before. Also the beds weren't very comfortable at all. Moving on to the roof deck- we are all so exciting to have this feature with our room to use but furniture was all falling apart and had no view whatsoever. The lounging bed up there had rips in the canopy, the jacuzzi tub looked like it was falling apart, and the outdoor table had missing chairs. The pictures the resort advertises is not what you are getting. They are advertising what I think they are calling their Essence suites which is a little further walk away from things and must be newer from the other main buildings. From all the reviews we read we were excited about tasting the food because it is advertised as gourmet. The food is the furthest from gourmet I have ever had. Since we got in in the afternoon we weren't able to book one of the restaurants so we went to the buffet. It had very limited options and was horrible. Worst buffet I have ever had at an all inclusive resort. The next morning we ordered room service for breakfast which was pancakes and they were like rubber. I am not what food the other reviewers are eating and what they consider to be quality. The food at the beach/pool restaurant was just ok. My husband wanted to have a bottle of vodka in the room to enjoy at night and they told us we needed to pay for a bottle even though we have already paid a lot of money to have unlimited. We decided to go to the front desk to see if there was availability to move to a nicer/more updated room. After about a half hour of the person searching we were told there was no availability and they only option was a room that was under maintenance and smelled like paint. The next morning we contacted our travel agent to help us. She spoke with the resort and they all of a sudden had 2 suites available in their Essence section. At this point we were all frustrated and our travel agent found a new resort for us to move to. We ended up at Iberostar in Riviera Maya. I highly recommend this resort over The Fives. The service we received the moment we stepped out of the taxi was impeccable. They were willing to help us right away and make sure our remaining stay was fun and memorable. I will definitely not be going back to The Fives and will never recommend staying here.
We stayed at the Fives Azul for 2 weeks and was extremely impressed by the high standard. Having stayed in Mexico previously, but first time in this hotel we found this hotel one of the best. The room we stayed in, which was a 1 bedroom Suite ( 8121) was a great location as in the middle of the beach and restaurants, the room itself was huge and had a great pool view. The staff work tirelessly cleaning everything to ensure the grounds and outside areas are spotless. And always smiling. All staff were friendly from check in, restaurant staff and activities, all always smiling and happy, at times some of the bar staff could seem a bit off, but overall was very impressed with attentiveness and customer service. A few staff who were outstanding and deserve a special mention were, Angel and Samuel from the activities team, Guadalupe, one of the drinks servers around the main pool, Lettie and Manuel, our concierge who were fantastic and Nancy and Jesus from the La Brassiere. The restaurants were amazing, great quality of food, combined with the whole experience, if anything the food could be a bit hotter. Always plenty of sunbeds available and very easy to get booked into the restaurants in the evening, in fact we never ate in the buffet. The least favorite was the Mexican due to the choice of menu, favorite was the Italian and La Brassiere. Service was exceptional in all. The only thing we found was the lack of evening entertainment, there were a couple of live bands, which were great but it was the lack of chairs and tables to enjoy. There is a lovely Plaza space, which could be made into a great evening area for tables and chairs so all could enjoy the entertainment, as opposed to just a few and people carrying chairs from elsewhere so they could enjoy. Not much for the children in the evenings, due to this and entertainment being low key, this suited us as a couple, but if your looking for a central space to enjoy daily evening entertainment, maybe not as suitable. I did pick up a nasty stomach bug, which is apparently in the area, so not necessarily a fault of the hotel, if traveling with TUI you are given a letter of notice about this, unfortunately we weren't so only aware of this when I seem to have caught it. Although this was not ideal, and restricted my holiday, it by no means marred the hotel experience and what the whole staff deliver, which is great, happy guest service to ensure the guests stay is a memorable one. Well Done The Fives.
Martin Ricardo Javier Jack and Laura the hostess were the most amazing servers I have ever met here at the hotel experience was pleasant fun and the service was quick and absolutely above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend going
