All the amenities of the Westin, right across the street
Lovely guest inn, nice grounds, attentive staff--and a Front Desk Cat named "Paco!" You have access to all the amenities of the Westin across the street (lounge chair, umbrella, towels, beach/pool food & beverage service) Staff is very attentive. No problem with the Internet and service is available at the Westin, as well. The front desk there will help you sign in. When you're through with the beach for the day and desire a little quiet time away from the crowds at the Westin, the grounds at the Sunshine Suites offer a very relaxing and shaded alternative. Pretty decent Continental Breakfast included (coffee/tea, juices, yogurt, hot/cold cereals, pancakes, toasts, muffins/Danish, hard boiled eggs). This was my second time staying here and I will return.
Another great stay and still the best value along 7 Mile Beach!
My wife and I enjoyed our 4th 8 night stay in 3+ years and once again I'll repeat what I wrote previously....this property remains exactly as the numerous reviews on TripAdvisor have suggested over the years.....easily the best value on Seven Mile Beach. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, the restaurant is inexpensive for Grand Cayman and excellent (we ate lunch and dinner on multiple days at the Sunshine Grill) and the staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. And the complimentary continental breakfast is good with plenty of choices and the WiFi is excellent from the rooms to the public areas. To address a long standing need the hotel is building elevators for both buildings and they will be completed within a few months. The construction noise during the day is a non-issue and from guests to employees all will benefit from their addition. Guests of the Sunshine Suites may readily use the beach chaise lounge chairs, towels, gym, spa, WiFi, etc. at the Westin Grand Cayman Resort (200 yards or 5 minute walk) and also charge any food/drinks from the beach to the restaurants/bars to their room at the Sunshine Suites. We took advantage of the Westin's amenities every day and they are a big part of the great value that is the Sunshine Suites. Booking tip...with recent changes on island with regard to hotels and resort fees, be sure you know what you are paying for when you book versus when you arrive at your hotel, the Sunshine Suites or any other property. FYI...the Sunshine Suites current resort fee is $35 and far less than the other hotels along 7 Mile Beach. 7 Mile Beach continues to be one of the gems of the Caribbean. While many other islands and Mexico struggle with seaweed issues on their beaches and water, there is no issue with 7 Mile Beach, which remains one of the most beautiful in the world to enjoy walking, swimming (often with fish around you) and snorkeling. To Jessica Kozaily, the GM, and her whole team, thanks again for delivering an excellent experience. And, needless to say, we hope to return sooner than later.
15 years Wedding Anniversary Trip
Cayman Islands (CI) Sunshine Suites(SS) with use of the Westin It’s our first time here in Cayman Islands. It’s day one. Small airport, we got through customs, got our luggage in 15 minutes and headed to the line for a taxi. Verna, our taxi driver was hilarious and fun. Our ride took 12-15 minutes and cost $30. Check-in was uneventful, I’ll admit, I was expecting more because of all my other traveling experiences. You are not getting a cold mimosa, a cool cloth or anything. They also aren’t going to help you to your room. Check in is as if your at a hotel! There is no elevator at SS, just know the 3rd fl. will get to your legs after a few drinks and day two. PS...we THINK they were building elevators while we were there. Our suite (310) was a decent size and had everything we needed. It was nice to have a fridge to put drinks, fruits and cheese in... all my favorite snacks. Having the fridge was also good for leftovers which helped save money! The air conditioner stay at 66 (couldn’t change it)which was comfortable with the ceiling fans on. ...we had to flush the toilet twice after every use or it would continue to flush on its own every 2/3 minutes...Idk! I did feel a little claustrophobic in the room with no balcony(I like relaxing/napping on the balcony when on vacation) but it just made us spend more time outside at the lounge areas. There is free WIFI at the SS and at the Westin. But you should also download the What’s App to use there. Also FYI the WiFi knocks you off so you have to keep putting the password in. The SS and Westin are 2 minutes across the streets from each other. There’s a little plaza btwn SS and the Westin....a few restaurants, liquor store and mini market. Eats Cafe is really good. My husband had jerk chicken and I had curry chicken it was delicious. The peach cobbler was a bread cobbler, it was so GOOT! We went back 3 times! Yoshi’s sushi was very fresh and tasty. The food at Sunshine grill was good too. Reviews hyped up the tacos and they are alright, but the bleu cheese burger with the sunshine scramble(regular fries, sweet potato fries, onions, mushrooms and hot peppers)was the best!!Service was very good. The free breakfast at the shack was very appreciated, it helped cut down on the food bill, you just have to get creative. Frosted Flakes in the yogurt. Bananas on pancakes or in the oatmeal.... free coffee and juices and a couple of more food items. I did buy favored creamer from Kirk market for my morning. coffee. Ok day two.... hmmm yup we need a car. We decided to rent a car because we wanted to go the grocery store, sightsee on our own, shop and visit a few must sees!! Remember the cost of a taxi to and from the airport would cost $60, alone. BUT because we didn’t rent a car when we first got here, we had to take the bus(van) from our resort back to the airport to get a rental but it was worth it. The bus(van) cost $2 dollars. You just walk to the main road and motion for the bus(van) to stop when you see it coming and just tell the driver where you are trying to go. They stop wherever you want. They come by every couple of minutes. Oh yea back to the rental....make sure you figure in the the cost of gas. It cost us $46(US)for 8 gallons. We rented a Ford Explorer for 7 days for $65 from Apex. We didn’t get the insurance because our auto insurance covers our rentals nationwide. The steering wheel on this ford truck was on the left side but my husband had to get his bearings each time he got in the trunk because you have to drive on the left side. Be careful, it can get dangerous at the roundabouts. Make sure you can use your GPS on your phone or take snapshots of the routes before you leave. It’s easier if you have someone helping to navigate. Honestly the drivers do everything they can to avoid accidents. They give the right away and slow down all the time, especially for pedestrians. We went grocery shopping, ate delicious inexpensive food at the local food places, went to Rum Point, Kiabo, Tortuga factory, Turtle Center, Macabuca, Cayman Island shopping, rode the ferry from Camana Bay, hit a few bars, etc etc. The Turtle center was informative and fun, if you purchase tickets online it’s cheaper with a 20% discount. The Resorts... so the pool at Sunshine suites is quiet and relaxing, yes people was eating outside but whatever....Now for that “resort fee” of $35 a day.... ugh ugh ugh, but it does allow you to use the Westin’s facilities and etc... sauna, steam room, workout room, beach loungers, towels. Couples at the Westin said they had to pay $60 a day for resort fees...now that’s KRAZY since they paid to stay there! The Westin pool was nice and the oceans was perfect temperatures. Luke warm! They also had two very hot-hot tubs outside at the Westin. The humidity was HIGH! The beach 🏖 is the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen quite a few during my vacations to the Carribean Islands 🌴. Grab a lil chair put it at the shoreline and just take it in...Breathtaking!!!! They have musicians play music in the Westin lobby every night. Danny Loop was very talented! It’s better to exchange US dollars to CI money. Also majority of the food places add 15% gratuity to the bill, so a 15% tip is already included when they bring you the bill. Look closely. Chickens and roosters are everywhere. Some are assertive. They jump on tables and nibble on your toes while you ate...weird The Tortuga coconut rum and OJ was so good, try it! A case (24)of Red stripe beer was $38CI. Do yourself a favor, buy alcohol and juice/soda and make your drinks in your room and carry your YETI or Bubble mug with you! We actually brought a soft cooler in our luggage to carry around.... we filled it with ice for our beers and drinks. There’s two huge ice chest by the pool area. 8 days at Sunshine Resort and flights from Syr. $2475. Airport bag fees $120 Resort fees $280 One Taxi $27 Car rental and gas $113 Ferry/Outings/Sightseeing $350 Food $800 Miscellaneous(shopping) $75-150 Our Sunshine suites vacation was actually better than we thought it was going to be. We were pleasantly surprised and satisfied!! I hope the review helps..... in box me with any questions! I’d be happy to help you figure things out before you go so your not wasting you CI time.
small quaint and exceptional !
i don't know about the reviewer who couldn't find their room but this hotel has two buildings. and ONE pool. the staff carry your luggage to your room ?! LOL there are no elevators. and 3 stories. if you are expecting PARK AVE this is not your place. please go pay up to $1300 / night at the Ritz or Westin. Cayman Islands are expensive. this place is budget friendly and worth every penny. small enough to walk around. small continental breakfast. fresh and very clean. the restaurant onsite is also very good. you can walk to the street and catch the PUBLIC BUS to the Waterfront for ONE CAYMAN Dollar each way. shops there are Very Affordable for souveniers. people are Friendly here. and they will help you if you ask. there is a little strip mall when you walk to the street. check out the restaurant EATS CAFE before you blow all your Bennies on food. pool is sparkling clean. plenty of parking if you rent a car. front desk is extremely helpful. i mean what more can you ask for ?!?! i've been to every Caribbean Island and this is the most expensive one. but i also felt Most Safe here. i would also recommend for a SOLO Traveler. i really liked this place !! the room is clean and plenty of sq ft. i've been to all kinds of hotels around the world and this one offered service !!
