Beautiful beach, friendly staff
Sunscape Curaçao has nice beaches with clear, blue water right in front of the resort. There is excellent snorkeling (wide varieties of fish). There were plenty of beach chairs and cute huts for shade. The pools & pool decks were always kept nice and clean. Food was nice and flavorful at the restaurants. There was a wide variety of options for food at sunscape, which is nice for picky eaters. Sometimes food was relatively average at the buffets for breakfast and lunch, but other days it was good. The staff is all very friendly and likes to keep everyone engaged in activities. The night shows were average. I upgraded to an “ocean view deluxe” room, and did not have the best view of the ocean.. so I’m not sure I would spend the extra money on that if I come back. Some of the rooms are older and could use some updating cosmetically, but the air conditioning and appliances worked great! There is a newer section of sunscape that apparently had nicer, newer rooms... so maybe request that. They offer a “sunclub” membership which was for access to a private beach/ bars and should have nicer rooms... but I heard multiple people complain that they didn’t think the sunclub experience was anything different than the regular one (so maybe save your money and don’t do that??). There are plenty of things to do & excursions to book if you’d like. I loved Curaçao overall and hope to be back.
Visiting Curacao after 35 years
My wife went to Curacao while attending college in the states almost 35 years ago. After being married 32 years, we decided to revisit her fond memories of Curacao. We chose Sunscape Resort & Spa and we were very happy to have met some wonderful people on and off the resort. We love all inclusive resorts and are excited to see how the new Dreams resort looks after it opens next month. The most notable part of our trip was meeting Chris Theo and his wife Irina Galan at the AMResorts UVC members club. Two of the nicest people we have ever met during our travels around the world. Chris & Irina helped us learn all about Curacao's island life and what AMResorts and UVC have to offer. Our trip turned out to be one of the best islands we have ever visited. We will definitely return to Curacao someday.
First and Last Visit to a Sunscape
I stayed at Sunscape Curacao October 27-November 3,2019. I was going to write a lengthy review of my terrible experience, but honestly, the review from poster DooxieJo (see below), who stayed the same week as me, captures it all. Please check her post out. Poor service, poor food, poor facilities. I won’t waste further effort giving feedback as it seems the hotel management responds to these comments with canned responses that are meaningless. “Sorry for your experience, we pride ourselves on our excellent staff and service, we hope you come back to the island”. Why bother providing feedback? Disappointing; which is a consistent theme with the resort.
Believe the bad reviews
We stayed Oct 22-26. Stay Oct Room 7108 in the Flamingo Wing. I really am not sure where to start there were so many disappointments. Let's start with a positive. The staff you have is outstanding! They bend over backwards to make sure you are happy and have everything you need. From maintenance and housekeeping to restaurant staff and bartenders. They are the best thing you have at this hotel. Moving on to the disappointments.... There was mold on the ceiling where the air conditioning vent was. There was water seeping out of the wall the air conditioner was in and exiting on to the floor in the closet/dressing area. There was condensation on the ceiling in the closet/dressing area probably also from the air conditioning. Housekeeping would clean it up and it would come back within a few hours. The air conditioner was so loud, it woke me up every time it turned on. There were small black flying bugs constantly flying around in the bathroom. Disgusting! I kept killing them and they kept coming back. And absolutely inadequate lighting in the bathroom and shower. The food was average at best. The Hibachi restaurant and the chef Elle was the best part. Too little spaghetti sauce on the spaghetti, watered down tomato soup and called it minestrone soup. Sea food restaurant was ok, but not great. Drinks were small and disappointing unless you were in a restaurant when you would get a real size glass. And the casino had the worst payouts. In Roulette you had to bet at least $25 to bet red/black, odd/even, etc. That is why no one is playing. People want to be a couple dollars there, not make a fortune. We paid for ocean view, and received restaurant view with the ocean behind it. Again very disappointing. The one thing I was happy with was being so far away from the main pool area. It was so loud I could hear the music and noise all the way to my room and the far end of the beach. This place says it is a resort, but there is no one coming around asking if I want a drink or food on the beach or around the pool. This is a 2 star place at best in it's current state. We will never be back again to any of the Sunscapes or the AM Resorts. Very very disappointed.
a nice place but food and alchol was marginal
stayed here in October check in was good and our room was nice stayed in 3108 ocean view beach front. the bar tenders were great but some of the restraint staff seemed lazy. the food was hit and miss but we did find some good meals. the beer was good montana and polar was a good beer but there high end whiskey is jim beam. did some tours of the island and the town of punda is very nice it is a must see. also did did the buggy tour right out side of the resort this is also a must do
