    Highly Recommend this Beautiful Resort!

    I was a little hesitant on what to expect based on some other not so positive reviews. This was my first time in St Maarten. I was very pleased with the resort and don't know why there were negative reviews. The resort if beautiful and the staff was very friendly, pretty much everyone we encountered was very friendly and they do try very hard. Azul was our favorite restaurant, Janelle and Kim are fantastic! Make sure you tip your servers, I saw a lot of people not tipping. These people work very hard and were some of the best servers I have ever had. There are cats on the property and we spoke with what we believe was the GM, and he assured us that the resort takes care of the cats and works with a local rescue to trap/spay & neuter/medicate and release the cats back to the property. The cats did have tipped ears indicating this. The cats were being fed by guests and I believe the resort, and they appeared to be very content. The resort is somewhat shared with the Maho side so you will see families and kids at some of the restaurants but not in the main part. We ate at both Ocean Point exclusive restaurants and the shared. There is a pretty big difference in service between the two. The drinks were strong and not watered down, the food was very good everywhere we ate and the portions were large. Our room was clean and housekeeping would check on us almost every night. Critical feedback: The pool hours should be listed. We were told by the front desk staff that pools were open 24 hours. This is not true, apparently they close at 7:00 pm but it was not listed anywhere and the staff were all inconsistent on the times. There were guests eating at Azul during dinner in t shirts and jeans. This is a formal dining experience and they should have been turned away. The bathroom sinks in the double rooms were so small that I could hardly use it, they need to be upgraded. Overall, this is a beautiful resort and staff was great and I give it a 5 out of 5 and will definitely return and highly recommend.

    Hotel in a Great Location

    I stayed here for 5 days, 4 nights. I’m giving this hotel a 4 star rating because I think the pros outweigh the cons. I think the best thing about this hotel is the location. Every room faces the ocean. You get great views of planes flying into SXM. It’s walking distance to so many places like Maho Beach, restaurants, casinos, souvenir shops and more. The cold bottle of water and chilled towel upon arrival was nice since you’ll be hot from coming off the plane. The welcome drink was good and my room was ready upon arrival before the check in time. I think the resort grounds are beautiful. And a nice touch that they do is give you a chilled towel with essential oils before each meal to wipe your hands with. The food was pretty decent for it to be resort food and all of the drinks I ordered were strong so they weren’t skipping out on the liquor portions. All the staff I encountered was nice. Special shout outs to: *Sabby (Portofino server) - He was best server I had between all of the restaurants. They ran out of the dessert I wanted on one night but he went out of his way to talk to the pastry chef and check at the other restaurants to make sure I got it. *Dane (Butler) - He wasn’t my butler but every time he saw me around the resort, he stopped to check in with me to see how I was doing. He also helped me out with a timely situation I was having and made sure I was taken care of promptly. *Serth (Front Desk) - He was very friendly and helpful with my situation as well. Now on to the cons. I think the rooms were average but with all of them having ocean views and a balcony or swim out made up for it. One night, my AC stopped working. I called the front desk and they sent maintenance over. He couldn’t fix it so they brought over a portable AC unit. I mean, it got the job done but it was pretty loud. The next day, power went out in my room briefly but came right back on after like a minute. Later on that evening, the power went out while I was dining at Portofino. Again, that one was very brief and it came right back on as well. Other than that, I would still say I had a great time at the resort and would come back.

    Hands down best resort in Sint Maarten

    This is an amazing resort. My family has been coming here for years and still continues. It is so quiet, safe and friendly town you can go anywhere without a worry. The staff at the resort beyond friendly and lovely. Manager Emrah has always helped us on our occasions with making them special and unforgettable, whatever you like he can make it happen. The resort is so clean and the beach at the resort is crystal clear water. The other amazing Mullet Bay beach is 5 mins walking distance from resort definitely give it a try too

    Stay at Sonesta Ocean Point.

    The service was excellent. Our butlers, Ranjeet and Alex, tended to us very well. Ranjeet set up a romantic dinner on our balcony one evening. Alex surprised us and set up a wonderful bubble bath complete with rose pedals, candles and champagne. The restaurants were pretty good especially Azul. They changed menus everyday which was pretty awesome. We used the point pool which to us, was the best one. Our butlers reserved a cabana/poolside chairs for us daily. The cons of our visit were the tiny ants that were everywhere!! They look like tiny little microscopic bugs almost the size of a flee. I had to take a picture and enlarge it to see it was an ant. The other con is the reservation for the poolside cabana and/or chairs with umbrella. One day someone moved our reserved sign and took our seats and nothing was done. So it seems like the reservations are more like a suggestion meaning although it clearly has reserved for your room number, anyone can just move the sign and take your chairs. Also, the family resort played very loud music all day that can be heard at Ocean Point. When walking through Maho, it was half naked woman dancing all over the place. The poolside bartender even joined in by spraying champagne on them while they danced provocatively which was a shame given it’s the family part of the two resorts.

    Amazing experience at a beautiful resort

    My wife and I spent a week at Sonesta Ocean Point. From beginning to end we were treated to a completely wonderful experience. We stayed in one of the swim out suites, but only used the swim out pool a few times, because we enjoyed spending time at the beach or one of the other pools on the resort. The food is Azul is excellent, and all of the staff members working at Azul were very pleasant. The breakfast buffet at Azul was also very good, with a lot of different options. We also had dinner one night ot La Fontana, which is one of the restaurants that the guests at the Maho Beach side also have access to. The food there was good, but the service was a little slower. It's a larger restaurant and there were a couple of larger groups and families there, which may account for the slower service. The grounds and the rooms were all very clean. There were always groundskeepers and maintenance workers around, hard at work keeping everything beautiful. A special shout out to Sheryl at the Point Pool Bar. She is by far the best bartender in the entire resort, and she always had a smile and a friendly attitude. And speaking of friendly attitudes, I want to point out that every single employee that we interacted with on the resort was friendly and helpful. I saw a few recent reviews indicating that there were some people working there who were less than friendly. We did not encounter that at all. Everyone from the housekeepers, to the maintenance staff, to the waiters, to the bartenders all had a smile and a pleasant greeting whenever we encountered them. If there is one small recommendation that I would make to improve the experience, it would be to put a couple on ATM machines on the resort. Currently there is one ATM machine in the casino, but from what I've been told it is frequently out of service or out of cash. The next closest ATM is at the airport. So a couple of ATMs in the lobby would be very helpful. A few notes about the surrounding area, for those wishing to venture off the resort: * There is small casino right across the street that is worth a visit. *Maho Beach is nice but try to get to Mullett Bay Beach at least once. It is absolutely stunning. It is walkable from the resort, but we got a taxi ($10). Two chairs and an umbrella costs $30. Just try to go on a day when the cruise ships aren't in dock, as it can get pretty crowded. *Maho Village, the area right outside the resort, has a lot of gift shops, jewelry stores, restaurants, bars, a pharmacy, etc. As I mentioned previously, the food at Azul was excellent, but we did go off the resort for dinner one night. We had an incredible meal at Jax Steakouse. Overall, we had a fantastic vacation at Sonesta Ocean Point, and we can't wait to return.
