SONESTA MAHO OWNERS - LISTEN UP!
Family of 12 visited Sonesta Maho All Inclusive Beach Resort this past week to relax and enjoy the beach and the accommodations of your property. However, this is what YOU "OWNERS of Sonesta Maho" are not DOING or being held ACCOUNTABLE for as Business Men/Partners: 1. SERVICE: Is the most important ingredient for a Business to continuously generate income HOWEVER, if not adequate it's the one thing that could lead it to bankruptcy. In order to continue to rebuild after the devastation the Hurricane caused, YOU now need to focus on upmost servicing for your guests. IT'S NOT LIKE WE DIDN'T PAY FOR IT! Your staff is doing the best they can, BUT, they are overworked and underpaid! 2. FOOD: You are serving low quality food - at times inedible. Improve the quality of your food and change your menus daily. 3. RESERVATIONS FOR RESTAURANTS: You are not fooling anyone! This inefficiency needs to end. If one makes a reservation at the beginning of their stay at a restaurant they should be accommodated. HOWEVER, your process requires one to reserve, and on the afternoon OF THE DAY OF, the guests need to reconfirm if their reservation is AVAILABLE for that evening - this is unacceptable! Especially, when the only option available is OPEN BUFFET where the same low quality food is being served nightly. 4. LIQUOR: Low quality brands will only get you, one time guests with limited expectations; AND turn away the guests that are willing to return year after year adding to your bottom line. 5. MASSAGES ON THE BEACH: Hire those lovely ladies on the Beach to work for you. They charge a quarter of the money and provide the same service your resort has! LASTLY, TREAT YOUR GUESTS LIKE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND DECENCY. CHANGE YOUR BUSINESS MODEL NOW! If it wasn't for the beautiful aqua waters that Nature provided us on our stay, this review would have not had any ratings that would be suitable for your facility.
Avoid this place !!!
Not even worth one star !!! 1. The food tastes and looks like excrement 2. The liquor is garbage and the service is beyond slow even for Caribbean . 3. Most of the workers have a nasty disposition 4.entertainment sub par 5. Construction goin on during the day loud is an understatement. Called management and they lie to you and hope you forget about it . 6. Dirty , they don’t clean your room garbage is left in hallways , they make your bed and give you towels that is it 7. Had diarrhea for the whole week because of the food and beverages again all fecal . 8. Parking garage looked like Afghanistan , plus the used condom next to my rental car was a nice touch . 9. Wish I could give zero stars . 10. They are not ready to be open to take peoples money and should be ashamed, I would never stay at anouther sonesta . Ps . No dinner reservations, bugs in dining area , we survived on pizza and salty bacon . Wish I could upload a video of them jackhammering on my floor feet from my room at 1 pm
So much potential
This is was family's second visit to the resort, the first being in March right after it reopened. It was apparent from our first trip that the resort was not ready, but I could see that everyone was trying and things were being completed and improved each day. I thought after 5 months it would be safe to visit again to experience the beautiful island and wonderful offerings the resort promised. I was wrong. Let's start with the positives. We arrived at the hotel before 3pm (check-in time) and while our room was not ready we could store our bags and grab food. Once the room was ready we easily found our way and were blown away! We had a 2-story loft and I would be willing to bet it was the best view in the entire resort overlooking the pool, with an ocean view, view of Maho Beach and the end of the SXM runway. The 1st floor had a full bathroom, TV, table with 4 chairs, and a pullout sofa (where my son slept). The 2nd floor had a king size bed with another full bathroom. Both levels had windows and while the first floor had sheers and drapes, the 2nd floor had a remote controlled shade. I mention this because it is impossible to escape the morning light from pouring in. The drapes downstairs were blackout but the problem was there were no overlapping. I ended up using bobby pins to pin the ends together so they would stay closed. The shade upstairs was okay but not blackout and obviously on each side light seeped in. We weren't trying to sleep away our vacation, but the option would have been nice. Also of note, there is no door closing off the downstairs from upstairs. My family was fine but if you have younger children who go to bed earlier or your family is waking up at different times, this may not be the room for you. Aside from the view, the best part of the room was the 2 full bathrooms! That meant that we could have 2 showers going at a time and I didn't have the hassle of a fogging mirror while trying to get ready. It was disappointing not to have a robe and slippers available in the room though. Next, the pool and lobby areas. The pool is nice in that it has 2 water slides plus a kiddy pool area with additional slides and things to climb. The kiddy area means that there are less small children in the big pool which was nice for my teenage son as well as my husband and I. The downside of the pools was that there didn't seem to be enough lounger's. My family of 3 had a hard time finding seats together and many of the seats are in high traffic areas so you're constantly getting splashed, squeezing around others, and feeling in the way. There were also no side tables! You have to put your things on the ground where they are likely to get wet, in your chair so you can't fully lay, or I noticed some people taking an extra chair just for their stuff. I feel I should also mention that upon check-in you receive "towel cards". At first, we only had 2 and had to request another since we are a family of 3, then once you have them each day you want towels, you trade them in. You may swap out for new towels throughout the day, but then when you are done you hand in the towels and receive new towel cards and at the end of your stay you must return them to the front desk so that you aren't charged $10 per card. This is a pain. The cards are just paper business cards so you have to be sure to put them in a dry, safe place, but then, you are only allowed one towel per person. Forget laying one out on your chair and having another to dry off with. Forget, rolling one up to use as a pillow. Forget, keeping a towel dry to use to wipe kid's eyes and hands if needed. Finally, I want to mention the lobby area because while you're at the pool many people tended to use the lobby restrooms over the restrooms by one of the restaurants because they were closer and easier to get to. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but with that much usage the resort needs to be more on top of cleaning them. The floors and counters were always wet, there was often an odor, and when you weren't in a bathing suit going into a wet restroom is just unpleasant. The lobby also has some nice soft seating but beware as the pool goers do also sit in it. Now to the food. There is so much to say here that many other reviewers have said, so I will just say that it's disappointing at best. The first thing we did after receiving our room number was to go make dinner reservations. My family was there for 5 nights and the first available reservation was not until after we left. I reached out to management who kindly was able to get us a time at each of the 3 restaurants and while I was grateful, we were not given a choice of day or time, but hey at least I could eat! Those 3 restaurants had good service, not great, and the food was just okay. The other 2 restaurants were a crap show! At the pub, we waited 10 minutes to be seated when there were clearly open and clean tables available, another 20 minutes before we could place our orders (including drinks), and then 40 minutes for the food to come out. The sad thing is, we got there earlier so everyone who came after us had it even worse! They were already out of several menu items when ordered too. The servers were miserable, but I can't really blame them as they were doing the best they could with the situation. They had to seat guests, take orders, serve food, clear plates, all while annoyed guests yelled at them. I noticed most people would just go up to the bar and get their own drinks rather than waiting for the servers. Then there is the buffet. Whoa. There are less than 10 hot dishes available, half of which are starches and most of the time were empty. The fruit choices were slim, the salad bar consisted of lettuce, tomatoes and soggy cucumbers, and the kids corner was just fries and one other main. The pizza was good, but just like the other hot food, once it was put out it went fast! The kitchen just couldn't keep up. I feel really bad for everyone working there. Basically, the restaurants can't support of the amount of guests it has. I want to love this place, but unfortunately, it seems they need much more time to get on their feet.
OMG! DON'T STAY HERE!!!
This resort is the worst all inclusive experience ever!! I have traveled to several resorts in the Caribbean and this is the first time I was treated like I was at Motel 6!! The service was horrible! Only a select few staff members even showed common courtesy! Sharon - food service manager, Diana - greeter at Palms restaurant, Pauline - manager at Palms restaurant were very professional and helpful during our stay. It was so much room for improvement at this place! I'll list some here... Stairs/emergency exit/plan- so hard to find! Elevators... Slow! Slow! Slow! Only 3 elevators for the entire resort! Parts falling off in elevators. No room service (false advertising) Food... same thing every day! Not even good. Just something to keep you nourished. Long lines for food every meal! FILTHY POOL!! Can't even see the bottom. Wasn't cleaned during the week I was there! No separation of kids/adults areas. Pool bar had a basketball goal in the same area! Volleyball court next to stage for nighttime live music. This is just some of the problems at the place! I understand recovering from storm damage but these problems are beyond that! Bad attitudes, rudeness from almost all staff! Staff does not follow up on any requests you make! They are not helpful at all!! I'm just stopping now because I'm tired of writing! Just stay somewhere else!
Worst all inclusive experience ever
I wouldn’t even take my dog there. The worst service ever the employees were rude and overworked . They kept running out of food and towels. They had one person doing the omelettes, pancakes and he also was fetching the things he ran out of, which made for long breakfast lines. That place was such a big disappointment .
