Wonderful experience with Sheryl at The Point Bar. She never fails to entertain and provide excellent service! Keric, who takes over late afternoon, is also a pleasure to be around - always smiling! With the pool bar being entirely to busy (they need a bar back to refill and clean) AND little kids sitting at the bar - it was a turn off - so off we went to our favs Sheryl and Keric! These two made our vacation worth it.
We were at the Sonnest Maho from October 17 to 24 2019 with family of 10. We were very worried about this resort because of the many negative reviews only to be very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are spacious and modern. We were able to book our a la carte restaurants before getting there and we didn't have a problem at all. We enjoyed every meal. The Asian restaurant could use some improvement as far as food selection and service, but everything else was great. We enjoyed many meals at the buffet with quite a variety of different foods. The service was great from everyone at the resort. I was celebrating my birthday there and when I got to my room on the first day, there were sweets, a bottle of champagne and balloons to greet me! The kids enjoyed the pool and the beach. Our son had his 3 yr. old daughter with him, so many times he would drop her off at the day care so he could go to the gym and she loved it there. Our 7 year old grandson had a great time at the pool and at night there were often games in the lobby that he could play. I could go on and on with everything, but over all we had an amazing stay and would not hesitate going back at all.
We were at this resort from October 10th to 17th Upon arrival we were greeted with a cold drinks and the check in went quickly The room was spotless and spacious, we had a nice view of a beach that was about 10 minutes walk. Our fridge was always garnished with bottles of water, Beer and Sodas. We had the opportunity to eat at 2 of the Restaurant a la carte and both were very good the service was quick and our meals arrived warm. The Buffet is small but you always find something to eat, the food is also very good. The meal that we really enjoyed was the BBQ on the beach, this is a great Idea from the Resort. There were no mosquito's or flies during our stay. Beach: small, not many umbrellas the sand is beautiful, the sea for us was a little too rough for us but many people enjoyed it. Pool: we were in the pool almost every day, it is well maintained, warm water but it is deeper than a normal pool. You need to be careful if you are not a good swimmer. The waiters are always assuring that your needs are met, tipping is not expected but welcome. We felt very safe at the Hotel and outside of the grounds as there are Security Guards everywhere. The Security Guard that really impressed us was Destiny, she is working at the entrance of the lobby at Ocean Point. She can be talking and looking directly at you but can see everything. She can spot the wrong bracelet from a mile away. Especially guests from the other section that goes in to serve themselves a coffee and tries to sneak in without being noticed. Sunwing desk. This is the first time that we have been to a Resort and noticed that they are always present and ready to answer your questions. Would we return to this resort : Yes because there are many more activities that we would like to do and the hotel is well situated just 5 minutes from the Airport, and also the service is excellent.
Poor service and bad experience
We booked the Sonesta Beach Maho Resort as a day resort and were extremely disappointed in the service provided. We arrived at the resort early and there were no chairs available at the pool. Advertised as a beach resort could be a stretch. Only about 100 feet of true beach front was available at this resort. The remainder was beach view on a ledge which also had no available chairs with umbrellas. We had 2 chairs and an umbrella put down on the tiny beach front, but could not even put our bags down on the ground as the water came up beneath our chairs. No bar servers came down to offer us drinks, so I went up to the bar and waited 5-15 minutes for 3 rounds of watered down frozen drinks from a dis-interested bartender. We had lunch which my wife enjoyed, but my sandwich was served with cold french fries. After lunch we went back to the pool to see if any chairs were available, but none were (lots of empty chairs occupied by towels though). As we walked around the pool I jammed my toe on the base of a umbrella stand that had no umbrella in it and was located along the walk path, At this point we were done with this resort. On our way out I went to the front desk to voice my displeasure and got a lot of head nodding sorry, but no offer of resolution. Not wanting to escalate we left and took a cab back to the ship. For $89 per person plus a $20 cab fare each way we expect much better service than what was provided. We received much more on our San Juan resort the following day, for less than half the cost. This is the first time I have been totally annoyed and felt cheated on day resort booking.
I stayed at this property on 3/11/19- 3/14/19 to celebrate our anniversary. Our first day checking in to our room everything was perfect until the front desk double keyed our room to another arriving couple who walked in on me & my Boyfriend what a way to start a vacation!!! He called to the front desk and later spoke with a manager whom gave us in writting that he would refund 50% of our stay we agreed and thanked him for trying to make it write come time to check out we asked about the refund they said give it a few day and here Iam 8months later and still havent heard from the hotel!!!!
