needs much improvement
I'm writing this review while still on the resort. been here 3 days so far. what a disappointment other than the rooms being modern. i will list the problems encountered. 1. shortage of staff in most areas. (excluding palm's grill and housekeeping staff), results in lack of service and wait times. 2. staff training in guest services which is lacking. if you get an employee who makes an effort you are lucky. i asked for a cappuccino second day at the buffet rest and was told we're don't have it yet i saw a gentleman walking away from the rest. now i wad not pleased being lied to. after making a fuss a cappuccino was made. 3. the hotel advertises shuttle service to mullet bay and phillipsburg. the hotel decided to stop in may. also advertise no reservations but that's a lie too. 4. lack of items.. bars dont have half of what is on their menu, and running out of food items or at the bar, tap beer. 5. disorganized at check in, ocean point. waited in line for 20 mins while there were empty tables. 6. lacking staff friendliness large percentage are not. they don't say hello or don't even smile when providing a service. 7. ascot pub closed during our stay, so why was it not done before opening of the resort OR why not offer the menu in the interim at palms grill in addition to current menu. 8. no ice cream even at the buffet.. this is the first i have experienced at a resort even Cuba had it. 9. no room service that i am aware of since there is no menu in room or advertised. 10. lacking variety and restaurants 11. no cafe. why on earth would one not be added during construction or at the least set up a temp one. i spoke with many older people who frequented sonesta before the new build and have stated that the food and service has downgraded the original staff are no longer there except for once female bartender. i believe many of the issues lie with management and poor planning. i was employed for many years with a major hotel chain and see the many flaws. as well on ways to improve. this hotel should have reviewed the large chain resorts on how they operate and incorporated some of those practices.
Worst resort and service ever
Waited in line for 1 hour to check-in Received a room that we didn’t pay for - 2 full beds instead of a king Waited 1 hour to get managers attention about the room error. Manager said they didn’t have a room for us. Went to bar and had to order 6 drinks before I could even find something in stock they had. Out of champagne, red wine, white wine, stoli vodka, coca cola, cold beer. Rooms smells like mold. Fridge had iced coffee in a gallon that was half drank (left from previous guests). Used condiments. No bathroom supplies Bathroom floods. Don’t recommend!!!
Believe what you read.
After reading several reviews we were excited about the newly renovated resort with beautiful beaches and all inclusive. When we arrived the lobby is nice and large but checking takes forever with only two ppl. First clue. Wait wait and wait some more. If your looking for a welcoming hospitable team. Wrong place. Want a can of coke. No can do want clean towels iout, hamburger on the menu, not today, ice -nope, cheap alcohol you got it beach chairs not after 1:30 they lock them up as soon as you move. 3 choices of restaurants. Hope you like pizza. Good luck. If your stopping for a few days no problem but longer save your money. Very disappointing and I stay many places and am easy going when it comes to a vacation vibe.
Good but needs improvement
I booked a quick vacation for myself and my husband for his birthday and did the butler suite, I wouldn’t bother with the butler but the room was quite amazing. They were very quick to respond to our needs and it was 24hr service which was nice but I think everyone had the same service even though we had with a butler. We were given a phone to contact Dane at any time and it did work at all. The pools are fantastic and in the beginning we really enjoyed the music but after four days we realized it was on a constant loop of about 20 songs and I felt like I should of been in a padded room, I couldn’t even imagine how the staff puts up with it. If you are going there I recommend booking your dinners in advance before you even arrive, our butler couldn’t even assist us in a single dinner reservation except for Jings one night. DO NOT GO TO JINGS!!!’ Absolutely terrible experience!!! If you can get into The Point is is so lovely with amazing food and Gayle is the most phenomenal waitress, so delicious and she is the best! Also during our checkout we were forced to hear the repeatable playlist again but thanks to the amazing Elizabeth in the lobby bar she deterred us from going crazy by her amazing wit and charm! The rooms are amazing here and the staff for the most part is above and beyond!
Very nice family vacation
This is a first for our family traveling to Sint Marteen. With Two toddlers 2&4. Everyone enjoyed the beach club house, special shout out to Chenella!!! She is great and the kids loved her and she made it special! Kids pool and slides are great however I do think a little extra attention to cleanliness of pool water should be looked at during the day as water was murky and dirty looking by early afternoon. Main pool is not too big but nicely situated and plenty of room for lounging and enjoying the day. Rooms are standard, clean, and very suitable for the amount of time you are in a room. However when booking ask for a room facing pool, anything other than back facing the back where the golf course. We had to call several times to have a room changed and finally after a few days we had another room nothing great but much better than what was given to us originally. Food is good. Do not expect buffet likes at other Caribbean resorts much smaller quantity and selection. The restaurants are good book those quickly when u get there and reserve on the touch screams. The hotel tried to be Hugh tech where you do it all through a self touch screen. Elevators super slow ask for ground floors. Overall nice place, beautiful beaches. Rent a car and travel the island yourself. Lovely folks. They have come a long way from where they were after Irma. I will be back one day!
