Genuine people that make the experience unforgettable

The family and I spent the week at Sonesta. Firstly, the people are what really stood out to us. They really go over and beyond to ensure everyone was enjoying themselves. The pool side servers are great and always check in. Stacey was our favorite server without a doubt. she was very charismatic, and our kids absolutely loved seeing her every day. The people working on this resort are the primary reason why our family would consider revisiting in the near future!

    Wouldn’t stay again

Easy check in room was ready and nice and clean. Small buffet section food was the same every morning for breakfast very Americanize which I think is insane because we don’t get to experience the local culture but I expected this because it is an all inclusive. Drinks bottom shelf liquor didn’t enjoy at all end up buying a bottle from the local market across the street. Very convenient to leave resort restaurants and bars on the strip which is great. Pool area need some serious updating the pool is just literally falling apart with very obvious damages. If you like the convenience of not having to spend any money then this might be for you but if your a foodie or just like good local food I would not recommend especially because food on the island is affordable and so good with so much flavor and culture.

    Great for our baby moon!

My husband and I spent our baby moon here while I was 26/27 weeks along and I’ll write the review I was hoping to see before we came here! First of all- the room. It was clean and modern. The bed and pillows could have been far more comfortable but I may have struggled with them because I was pregnant. The resort itself was very walkable and accessible. I found the pool and beach chairs sufficiently comfortable. There are other reviews here regarding the food; my husband and I found the food to be exactly what you’d expect from an all inclusive resort. We found great options, there was plenty of healthy food and neither one of us got sick. The restaurants were clean and we liked the food. I am vegetarian and found there to be plenty of options depending on the day-i was unable to enjoy any of the fresh salad options at my doctor’s orders, but it all looked wonderful. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly- a special shoutout to Nicole at the buffet during breakfast and lunch. She is an amazing soul and always goes the extra mile. Everyone was kind to us though, and made sure that we were always looked after. We rented a car through the resort and it was a great experience- we highly recommend exploring the island. It’s easy to navigate. The price to rent is reasonable and the rental process is smooth. The staff made recommendations for places to visit and we had an amazing time! The gym was nice and it was always clean. There isn’t a huge selection of weights but definitely enough to maintain your workout routine in a hot climate. For my pregnant mamas travelling here- pack bug spray. There hasn’t been an active outbreak of Zika on the island for a few years but why risk it. There are small biting insects on the resort and it’s worth preventing bites when you’re in tropical climates. At my doctor’s orders I stayed away from most raw fruit and veggies with the exception of bananas, apples and oranges. I would also stay off of the beach when planes are taking off- falling in your 2nd or 3rd trimester is hugely risky to you and the baby, and those jet blasts are incredibly strong. There was one thing that soured our experience at the resort. We observed abhorrent behaviour from some of the other guests. There’s no reason to be verbally abusive. Rather than screaming and making demands you can act like an adult and ask the staff to accommodate you in a nice manner and they are happy to do so. There were several occasions where we saw other guests having outbursts and treating the staff horribly. That should never be tolerated and the staff members handled the outbursts with grace. All of that being said, it’s a great place to stay if you’re visiting st Martin/ Sint Maarten as it’s convenient, close to the airport, has plenty of amenities and the island itself is so tiny you can take a taxi and be anywhere in less than an hour.

    Great place to stay

This was our 2nd time staying at this hotel, we went last year and fell in love with it. If you’re looking for a lavish, modern hotel this is not it. If you’re looking for a cozy place to stay with great food and great staff this is it. All the restaurants were wonderful along with the buffet… but be patient with the staff if they are taking a little longer then your used to…….besides your on vacation. Buffet has many options to accommodate everyone. I travelled with my 2 young kids 6 and 7 and they always had something to choose from including the delicious wood oven pizza. My husband and friends we travelled with enjoyed all the food with certain restrictions they have. Our room was great and overlooked the pool area, it was clean and just what we needed. The hotel it 5 min away from the airport which is great when travelling with a young family. Pool area is decent, nothing fancy we had a great time.. they offer bbq, hamburger and hotdogs in the afternoon. Kids club - my kids loved the club in the afternoon to get a break from the sun (it’s hot so bring lots of sunscreen) the would do lots of activities with the kids such as crafts, games, sports, painting, face painting, scavenger hunts etc it is also open in the evening and they also offer many activities and entertainment for the kiddies. They staff is amazing with the kids I had no concerns. Entertainment is offered throughout the day and night and it is fantastic. The beach is beautiful however the water is rough on certain days so be prepared… especially if you have young kids..there is not much lounging on the beach the highlight is the beautiful blue water and the planes flying right over you. Mullet beach is a 15 min walk from the hotel if your looking for calmer water and beach chairs (at a cost.) but worth it!!! If you visit St.Maarten don’t forget to go see the island, Grand Cast on the French side has such stunning beaches, restaurants and beach clubs to spend the day.. there is a variety of beaches and tours to do for a day.. all the beaches are spectacular… Overall I will definitely be back next year…. The food is great, hotel is clean, staff is friendly and helpful.
