Discover Poipu Beach's newest playground at the 391-room Sheraton Kauai Resort. A $16 million revitalization has brought new energy to the guest experience at this 20-acre retreat. A modern, refurbished entry leads to the beautifully landscaped open-air Ocean Courtyard lounge. Adorned with tiki torches and six conversation areas - three with fire pits - it's the perfect spot for cocktails under the stars.

Sheraton Kauai Resort's 391 rooms, including its 11 suites, are housed in eight buildings no higher than a mature coconut tree. Grouped together in three different locations, the room categories are identified according to their primary view: Garden Wing, Ocean Wing, and Beach Wing.

The expanded, multi-level pool sits just above the beach and is lined with eight private cabanas equipped with chaise lounges, a flat-screen TV, and ceiling fan. Lava's on Poipu Beach, the resort's new open-air restaurant and beach bar, is just steps away from the pool and ocean. Rum Fire is the island's newest hot spot, serving up nearly 180-degree ocean views from all 240 seats. The innovative Rum Fire menu features Hawaiian cuisine with global influences.

Kauai is a wonderland of outdoor activity and adventure, and Sheraton Kauai Resort serves as your base camp. Naturally, given the perfect oceanfront location, you will find unlimited beach activities right outside your door. Scuba and snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, and beach cabanas are available at the Activity Center adjacent to the Ocean Pool. The resort offers two swimming pools: a brand new oceanfront pool and a tranquil garden pool. You also have access to a fitness center and a news/internet library. Excellent shopping and numerous local attractions are within walking distance.

    Honeymoon on Kauai

My wife and I recently stayed to celebrate the last week of our honeymoon. We were greeted with smiling faces by the bell men and at the front desk. Sheryl was professional and very friendly. We checked into our garden-side villa, which was perfect because we had lots of laundry and wanted to make simple meals. The resort was very clean for the most part (except for construction areas) and the staff was friendly. One staffer even gave us some fresh mangos as we were walking back from the pool. There are quite a few poor reviews because of the construction noise, which did bother me as well (only 1 or 2 days where we heard jack hammers or loud machinery). However, I would highly recommend this resort once the construction is complete or if that does not bother you. The resort is about a 5 minute walk to a plaza with restaurants (recommend Anuenue Cafe for brunch and Keoki's for dinner) and a convenience store or about a 20 min walk to a larger plaza with more options (recommend Kiawe Roots). Cara from the concierge helped us book some adventures. We highly recommend the sunset Catamaran dinner cruise through Blue Dolphin Charters, the Luau on the resort, and renting a car to explore the island (renting for one-day was sufficient). All in all, this resort had everything we wanted. Only thing I wish we did was take time to enjoy the 2-mile Heritage Trail.

Nice stay in a clean condo

We had a “timeshare presentation” package and stayed for 5 nights in a condo across from the actual resort. We find the room is clean and well equipped: electric cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer. House cleaning is 5 stars. They really paid attention to details and we have enjoyed coming back to clean rooms. We didn’t use any onsite facilities or activities, so we couldn’t comment those. The timeshare presentation is not too bad, although the sales lady was 15 minutes late for our meeting and caused the “presentation” lasted two hours instead of 90 minutes. She brought in a manager to give us the lowest price and tried to pressure us to close a deal. When it didn’t work out, she took us to another lady closer to give us other offers. We had to say no firmly to be able to leave. Overall we have enjoyed our stay.

    Great family style hotel

The location is excellent - located right by a swimming beach. The pool area overlooks the ocean and we had sea facing rooms which were lovely. The rooms are clean, spacious and have been updated. The hotel just lacked that personal touch for me - for the price we paid I was a little dissapointed with the overall attention to staff/customer service. From check in - no one showed us to our rooms. Family of 5 with lots of luggage, of course we got lost alonf the way. No hotel details were given - like what the hotel offers or where to find what. The concierge was the same - only slightly helpful. Best service came from the on site car rental company. They were super helpful as we had not rented a car and it is a must! Pool service - superslow and lacking in variety.

They really take care of you here!

The grounds are beautiful. When we arrived we were greeted with complimentary valet parking and the valet driver took our bags to our room. We were there celebrating our 15-year anniversary and they upgraded us to a suite! It had double doors & a beautiful entry way, beautiful views of the ocean in the living room & bedroom, a huge bathroom & dining room, big & comfortable king sized bed with a huge lanai. Our favorite spot was sitting out on our lanai having drinks & admiring the view. Even when it rained, we could be out there and not get wet. The cleaning crew was awesome - they noticed I like cream in my coffee (which was so good - they give you Starbucks to make in your room) so the next morning I had double the creamers to put in! And they give you actual creamer, not the powder stuff. The pool was clean, warm, and not too crowded. We could always find lawn chairs with beautiful views. And we loved the flags on our chairs - we put those up whenever we wanted a drink or a snack. The servers out there were friendly and attentive. The best part of the beach was seeing the seal that would come to sleep there. The hotel was always really good about putting up signs & roping to section off the part he was in to protect him. It was fun watching the surfers catch the big waves - we had very strong winds during our stay. I didn't venture too far in because of the strong undercurrents. We rented snorkel gear and walked along the shore to Poipu Beach - very shallow, clear water with tons of big colorful fish! There was a sea turtle hanging out on the shore. The first night we dined at Lava's. It's open air dining with beautiful beach views. We both got fresh fish dishes that were excellent, but my bok choy side dish was floppy, wilted, and not tasty. The 2nd night was our anniversary and we dined at RumFire. It was very fancy and wonderful. All the dishes sounded amazing so it was difficult to pick what to get. Then our server told us we could pick 2 or more dishes in half sizes for the price of one. I chose the filet mignon and the fresh fish. It was the best dish on the island. We had a coupon for a free dessert and got the pineapple cake with coconut ice cream, which was delicious! On top of that, they gave us a "happy anniversary" dish with macaroons. The musician was excellent as well - she played wonderful songs from Norah Jones & Etta James - she played "At Last" which was actually our wedding song! It brought tears to my eyes. Our last night there we went to the Luau right next to the pool & beach. They gave you drinks with flowers in them even before it started, while the check in line was forming. The food & entertainment was spectacular. The emcee, cousin Moi, was really good and so was the live band. I tried 2 activities while I was there. Yoga is offered every morning next to the ocean. I was looking forward to a good workout but was disappointed. We never got off our backs on the ground, so the view was pointless. The yoga instructor flipped off a Pepsi truck while hugging a palm tree. Half the class left early. The next morning I tried Hula dancing at the white tent. This was not well attended but it should be! The instructor was a native Hawaiian and taught me the Huki Lau dance, which is over 100 years old. She taught me all about the history of the dance and taught the legs first, then the arms, then put the moves together. She was easy to learn from. We visited 3 islands during our vacation and the Sheraton made Kauai our favorite island in Hawaii.

Great location, more sunny days, friendly staff, great snorkeling nearby

The staff are all very friendly, the rooms are spacious and outlets in all the helpful places. We had a garden view room on the west side, and that was great as parking was close and it was away from the swimming pool. The swimming pool is nice, but not very large- although looking at most other hotel sites, the pools are not large like we are used to at Arizona resorts. The beach off the hotel has mostly boogie boarding and surfers, but a short walk was a great beach for snorkeling. Rent from Snorkel Bob's- efficient, great equipment and easy return process, also felt they were very honest about returns after hours. The only negative about the hotel is the lack of upgrades for Bonvoy Gold members- expect to be in a garden room and probably away from the excitement. That was fine with us as we don't hang out at the hotel much. On site activities we attended included: yoga- average instructor weekdays who didn't actually do any yoga with us and was very into guiding you to "heal' past issues. Ukulele lessons- fun, we learned three chords and a song by the end of class, the instructor can be seen in multiple advertisements for her skills on the island. Lei making- fun- the instructor was kind and helpful. We'd return to this hotel as it's a great location, really friendly and helpful staff (other than the upgrade issues with the front desk) and big clean rooms.
