We happy with the entertainment group especially Pikachu and Luna. Made us comfortable and enjoyable vacation. It was a pleasant stay and clean. We are really happy with this trip. Will definitely come back.
Nice place but not for me - not what we expected
I had high hopes for this resort when we booked it Everything looked fantastic, the reviews were good so we booked the trip! First note: just because it says 4+ stars, does not mean the level of service is the same. The stars are given based on amenities offered. Check in was super quick. When we got to our room (815), there was no AC, the fan didn't work, WIFI didn't work (one of the reasons we selected the resort), no cable and then the phone in the room didn't work. For the first time since traveling to the Dominican Republic, I wanted to go home the day we arrived. At some point overnight, the AC was fixed. The following morning, we climbed on the bed to get the fan working. I didn't much care for the bugs all over the place - in our room as well (any other resort we've been to sprays every week to reduce this). The resort is beautiful! The most lush palm trees I have ever seen. The resort is accessible for the most part (this is the first place we've been that I can remember access ramps fr someone with mobility challenges). The dining room is very well lit up at supper time (HUGE for someone with a visual impairment). The pools are nice but I hope you don't mind plastic straws under your feet in the pool - I fished out dozens of them on a daily basis - especially the swim up bar pool. The beach had seaweed along the shoreline so we didn't use the beach. The BEST view from the resort is Amber Cove right beside us - watching cruise ships come in was mind blowing awesome. If you're planning to leave the resort with a local friend, you're going to have to either meet the friend at the security gate or have the front lobby call out to security to let them in - we had this happen twice. The sports bar was a nice alternative to the blah buffet (except the day when we were served cold nachos and raw onion rings). The buffet experience was made worse by the rude travelers - pushing and shoving to get their food - we're all there for the same reason - chillax. The entertainment team (I only remember Mosquito) do their best to engage everyone in activity. They're high energy and a lot of fun. They engaged the young children who were at the resort as well - awesome. The resort is a 45 minute drive from the airport. If you're someone who likes to go out and into the city to engage in the Dominican culture, this isn't the place to be - it's VERY FAR out of the way of everything.
Very close to a 5 STAR!!
I had read in the past reviews that the resort was on the quiet side. The day we checked in I was a little worried. lol But, after the initial brakes on life thing, I really enjoyed it!! There are a few activities during the day and the rest of the time we entertained ourselves playing bocce ball, games, etc. The place is beautiful and very clean. All of the staff are very nice and polite! Every day there was the red flag on the beach. But that was not the resorts fault. Also, I was very happy that there was basically NO seaweed!! Water was beautiful!! The resort is built along the ocean. The pools and pool bar are immediately behind the beach. They have a gym, must wear proper shoes. The water aerobics for the most part were very good. They would have step or Zumba around 5 pm. The food was very good with the exception of the steak house. The steak is thin, tough and very chewy. That is not the fault of the resort that is the norm in 3rd world countries. They also need to work on the acoustics in the steak house. The level of noise is next to yelling to be heard. You can dine on the veranda. The Japanese restaurant is very good!! They need to cut down the portions in the Japanese. There was soooo much wasted food! Juan Pablo and Daniel did awesome jobs of taking care of us. They ALL try very hard to please, which is appreciated! Italiano has an awesome antipasto bar. You could make a meal off of it alone! Lasagna said it had some weird ingredient listed. But, what ever it said, it was not in there.. LOL Most of the bartenders were real cut-ups! Josephina at the pool bar stood out! She was always happy. Most of the night entertainment is outside by the sports bar. The outside entertainment was rather boring. We would play our games and cards that we brought in the lobby. We chose the lobby because it was well lit and we were close to the sports bar for drinks. Really, there was no other place to play except in front of the sports bar, but, the lighting is not as good. Well, one night they had karaoke in front of the sports bar and it was extremely loud. The emcee was the loudest!! We asked the night manager if they could possibly turn down the volume so we didn't have to yell at each other. They did not turn the music down, in fact it got louder. We were told it would be over at 11 pm. It went until 11:35!! UGH We were told to go play somewhere else after several complaints. We would have been glad to move, but, where could we go and get bar service!! Senator needs to work on that!! The night manager was very rude!! Julio at the pool restaurant was always smiling. Luis and Algenis were great in the sports bar! Also, as far as entertainment, Mosquito, the manager, is very nice and accommodating! He also speaks perfect English. You have the exchange privileges at PlayaBachata. That resort is huge, but it has a small entertainment area. We didn't spend much time there. PlayaBachata guests cannot come to Senator. We have not had local people come in to the resorts when we have stayed in Punta Cana. I guess that is the policy when staying in the Puerto Plata area. I know it's their country too, but, there is a large difference in conduct and cleanliness for the most part! They have lots of children, they take over the pools. They leave trash everywhere. They do not have manners and break in line and are rude! Again, I want to reiterate that is majority but not ALL of them! That aside, we would return to Senator in the future. Although they do need to have other areas where people can hang out at night and have good lighting and low noise.
Loved this resort! The accomodation, the food and beach were perfect! The bars and the staff that worked there were amazing! Good drinks and service. Especially Ariel at the sport Bar. His service was awesome. Every time I saw him, he was always in a good mood and making sure we were all having fun, creating good energy around the bar. Definitely will be going back again.
