The good, the bad and the not so good at Secrets wild orchid preferred
First of all, the best part of the entire trip was service, especially our Butlers Kenton and Jerome. They are both kind, caring and capable of making your visit the best possible experience. For example, we like quiet and they reserved beach chairs every day at the quietest, most picturesque point on the property. Another time we were unable to get reservations at the hibachi grill restaurant and they pulled major strings to make this happen. They promptly answered the cell phone preferred guest are given and usually came to see us immediately even if we were happy with a phone conversation. I cannot praise them enough. Another stellar employee is the bellman Matthew who greeted us every day and cheered up my phlegmatic husband. Bringing him a smile with his upbeat conversation was much appreciated. The restaurants are all a solid B--perhaps the French restaurant quality Bplus/A minus was the best in our estimation and the hibachi show was entertaining. Jerk chicken stand is very good however one must stand in line and then bring the messy food to a picnic table or back to beach chair....The only exception to the overall decent food is the buffet which is big on quantity but just ok in quality: fruit, salad, etc was unappetizing (even in comparison with the very casual restaurants that we escaped to in Negril by hiring a private driver. By the way, a trip to 7 mile beach in Negril was the highlight for us, walking and swimming on that glorious stretch of sand, even though we stayed in Negril twice before. Naturally we revisited the overhyped Rick's cafe and had a delicious fruit salad and rum punch while watching the intrepid high diver and the not so fearless tourists jump off the cliff into the deep water. Last time we went to Rick's by boat and I'd recommend the catamaran view rather than milling about in the crowd, waiting for a seat. In summary, excellent butlers and service overall, food and weak drinks were fair to good. We paid a premium and had a very nice room, (but poor layout with beach swim out suites facing pool or loud entertainment at night).
Secrets Wild Orchid group event
This resort was a pleasure to work with for my group of 165 guests. Staff were attentive, responsive, pleasant and joy to work with! The resort was clean, comfortable and up-to-date. Any issues (mainly dead batteries) were attended to immediately. Nightly entertainment was good and in a central location (especially for those at Wild Orchid--a bit of a walk for those staying in St James or Breathless). The only complaints I heard from my group was that the pool water was colder than they would have liked and the water was too deep at the swim up bar. Personally, I had no complaints. Would highly recommend this resort for individual or group travel.

Our second time here.Amazing vacation. Great food, great people. I’ll start with Matthew. He helped with our bags and had the biggest, happiest personality I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Our butler, Traverse, Was awesome. Calling multiple times a day to make sure we had everything we needed. And Damien. He was our waiter at the buffet and he is easily our favorite person here. So courteous and ensuring we had a perfect experience. There are 2 things that could be better. The gym, which is really important to us, was not always clean and there wasn’t someone there cleaning the machines after they were used. My only other complaint was the aggressiveness of the people trying to talk us into purchasing a membership. It was very off putting. All in all, though a wonderful vacation!
I have to start off with acknowledging one waiter at the Blue Mountain restaurant- Thai- he was amazing, kind, professional, and efficient. I believe it was his first night and we enjoyed him the most of all of the staff at the resort. The resort itself is nice, a variety of restaurants to choose from nightly. I found the food to be from ok to good. You must go out to the pool & beach early to reserve a chair by putting towels. Otherwise you are milling around trying to find a place to sit. They had various activities which were good. At night they had entertainment, a piano bar, and a small dance club. You could find something to do after dinner. The jerk chicken truck is a nice touch in the afternoon and evenings. They also have a 24 hr coffee bar which is great but again I felt as if I was bothering them every time I asked for a coffee.A few cute boutique & a small but cute dress shop were near the coffee shop. Also a general store if you forget anything, sunscreen, advil, etc.... Adequate shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the rooms- good quality. They provide a hairdryer and steamer as well as slippers and robesI I was not impressed with the a portion of the staff, we asked a question or asked for something it was as if we were putting them out or we didn't get a direct answer. I was referred to walk across the resort ( which isn't that far) to get clarity for an excursion I booked. I asked the concierge to call and it was a bother. There was no one in the office they were sending me too. It says no tipping which I always do but everyone let you know they were expecting a tip. Look your in Jamaica, the weather is beautiful and the room are pretty nice- so not complaining. I would look for other option if I was going back to Montego Bay but would stay again if I was going with others who wanted to stay there. The resort itself has nice qualities it was the staff interaction and any desire to be helpful that we found lacking. It is a shame because the property is set up to be a very good resort. The service knocked it down considerably.
This was our third stay at either W/O or S/J. This trip was to celelbrate our upcoming 50th anniversary as well as my 70th birthday. Both of these were acknowledged by the Wild Orchid staff. Our first encounter with the staff was with Shanice when we were getting our room asignment. She was totally helpful and such a pleasure to deal with. We were put in room 2507 which was ocean view with a perfect view of ocean and pool. Overall the resort is in great condition with the exception of one of the elevators in building two where the lighting panel is coming off of the wall. Our room was in great shape and we enjoyed a nightly glass of wine on our balcony. We really enjoyed our meals at Bordeaux where we dined twice, Oceana and Portofino. We went over to Breathless for two dinners and loved them both. Our dinner at Culinaria was excellent but the view from the rooftop Altitude couldn't be beat along with some very good food. Our waitress at Altitude Sashonie was so helpful with meal selections and very attentive even with being so busy. Our nightly visit to the Preferred lounge was something we always looked forward to, mostly to visit with Asheekie who was so personable and a pleasure to deal with. Fitzroy at Portofino and Francine at the Preferred pool were so nice at all times. We definitely liked the Preferred pool/beach area better than the main pools at either W/O or S/J. Just a more relaxed atmosphere which we wanted. The gym is OK but considering the fact that it serves three resorts it is way too small. I always got in but at times it would take several visits to have equipment available. We were lucky enough to meet a great couple from PA who we just hit it off with. They went deepsea fishing one day and caught a White Marlin. They arranged to have a chef at the resort prepare some of the fish and were kind enough to invite us to share the dinner with them. Some of the best and freshest fish we have ever had.
