Secrets Wild Orchid - Montego Bay - Jamaica - Worst Hotel in 20+ years. Don't go
This has to be the worst holiday we have had in the 20+ years traveling to Jamaica. The Hotel reviewed as 5 star on website it is definitely not, no more than 2 at most. We booked as I was retiring this year and had visited Royalton Blue waters in May. Check in was a shambles and staff were ignorant/rude as we arrived after 7 due to the traffic in Montego Bay being backed up due to rain, a 20 minute trip from the airport took 2 and 1/2 hrs not what you want after a 9 and 1/2 flight. We were dropped off at the reception for Secrets Wild Orchid but as we were Preference this was also an issue with the Receptionists. Awful. We asked where the Buffet was only to be told they did not do Buffet at night. Nightmare as we had to queue 1st of many during holiday. Next day we found out that the building next to our was getting scaffolding put up to paint the exterior. They could not have made any more noise if the tried to. They should have started with the outdated rooms. So found out that the TUI rep was visiting on the Thursday so opted to wait and find out what was going on and ask for a Hotel change. Franziska was the rep. She had a queue waiting for her. After an hr got to speak to her only to find out TUI knew about this and the hotel were claiming enhancement and not renovation what a joke. So she took our claim to be moved. We received an email from TUI asking for £2634 + £50 for admin + pay for taxi which would be around £150. what a joke. So we were stuck in this shambles of a hotel as we had paid in Excess of £9k to get here from Scotland we were not prepared to pay anymore. After a couple days it quietened down but then when we were in the room we heard the Scaffolders again only to find them outside our room on the patio. I went straight down to reception only to find the receptionist rude and unfriendly so asked to speak to a manager. She arrived 20 minute later so I took her out and showed her what was happening, she apologised and found us another room. What a nightmare. I received a call from a Manager the next day Richard Nixon and all he would do was apoligise not what we were looking for and told him we could not wait to get out this hotel and back to Scotland. The Hotel references 9 Restaurant's. Only 5 open every night with the same menu every night. These were shared with the Secrets St James Hotel on the same site. The hotel does not have any quite place to have a drink at night no Foyer. The Piano bar was a joke as they only had 1 barman at most 2 when they could be bothered for the 2 hotels as St James shared this bar. When we checked out the receptionist asked for our view on stay. She did not like our reply and asked us to score the hotel we told her 0 she called her manager but she did not arrive to speak to us then the receptionist marked us down as a 7 so they were not interested at all. Glad to be back in Scotland and will be back to Jamaica but certainly not to Secrets now we know why they call it secrets as they do not tell you how bad it is

Average overall with a few wonderful high points
Initial impressions of resort? Average presentation, cold reception in lobby area and by UVC rep. Room was not ready even though we were not early. We were ushered out to lunch at the poolside restaurant which was average. The food at this resort did not compare to food at other Secrets properties I've visited, esp. Mexico. The UVC rep insisted we contact her thru WhatsApp and seemed annoyed when I asked her not to walk away until I could confirm the WhatsApp handle for her. Customer service in general was not friendly. That said, I'll proceed with highlights. We had great service all-around at the Frenchrestaurant. We had great service by many in the morning buffet, includingShattayvia and Alicia whose friendly face was a constant we looked forward toseeing. We were delighted to end our trip with a most charming experience withAntoniel Flowers in the buffet area. Such a gentleman and such attentiveservice! The highlight of the resort was ourTepannyaki dinner our last night with Chef Romaine. He was a HOOT! SO funny, sotalented, and frankly just charming! He and Alvin at the central pool bar werethe highlights of our trip! Hands down most memorable customer service! Another memorable touch, the violonist and celloist - just wow! They were so talentedand such a joy to listen to. I would be remiss not to mention Ann-Marie,Amstar Rep. She was awesome! So friendly, warm, and engaging! She helped usbook a fantastic and memorable dolphin cove tour. The other Amstar reps didn'tseem too interested in talking with us so Ann-Marie's smile, light and energywere refreshing. Reception by my UVC on-site representativewas as usual pushy, uncomfortable, and oddly sarcastic at this property. Sheseemed to be talking poorly of me each time she saw me, not realizing howobvious she was. Did not appreciate that at all. Pretty over UVC altogetherwith how they force the initial welcome meeting onto you within hours ofarrival to every trip. If I saw the value of renewing, I could easily findthem, yet they try to push you into every meeting and this one tried to guiltme into a meeting and ignored my request that she respect my 'no' to furtherdiscussion. The beach outside was beautiful and pools well-kept, our bathroom flooded from above the last night (apparently a mid-wall plumbing leak), staff were right on it. You can request free snorkeling equipment in the mornings 9 and 10am but we kept either going too late or weather conditions didn't allow for viewing. If you bring your own snorkeling equipment, there are some fun fish (and even an eel) to see on your own nearby.

Complete relaxation in contained environment. Suits people who just want to sit on a beach and be pampered
The resort is large and friendly. The staff are cheerful. Our rooms ( we stayed either end of a holiday) were clean and well presented. Food was more mixed. The breakfast was excellent but dinner was disappointing in terms of range of choice. The Jamaican buffet on Fridays was good but restaurants outside of this were limited. Drinks certainly flow. Entertainment was loud but finished in time for sleep. It was possible to ignore the loud pool parties. There was a good mix. This time s not an authentic Jamaica experience but the location is lovely. You could be anywhere with a beach but the view is good.

Probably last all inclusive holiday
After being to Antigua for the last two years at Royalton we thought we would have a change and picked Secrets Wild Orchids Jamaica. The staff on the whole were very good and particular mention to Alvin at the pool bar. The down sides of this hotel, no where enough staff on any of the bars, waiting ages to get drinks with normally only one member of staff on. When you consider it took four different staff members to take out bags from the bus outside reception, to reception, to our room, there is obviously a need to reassign staff. The food was at best okay but some meals were poor, the buffet didn’t have a great selection either. If you want to eat after 6pm (when they open) prepare to have to wait in some instances 26 tables in front of us. Pool beds if busy very hard to get, butlers reserving for guests, crap cabanas taking up most of the areas directly pool side at $100 per day providing no sun cover but you get premium water 🤷♂️ The main pool was closed for 1.5 days which was unbelievable, just get the chemicals right over night. Considering this is labelled a five star resort (it is nowhere near) it felt as if they had all your money already as all inclusive so no need for extra staff to speed things up or excellent food. Nothing to do with the hotel but just for information. We needed to go to the local private hospital for a case of throat infection and you really need to have your wits about you. They wanted $1000 as a start and would advise if extra was needed. I asked how much the consultation with the doctor was as I knew what was wrong with me, $572. When I got into the back area I was met by two nurses who wanted to know information about the most bizarre stuff but wouldn’t look at my throat. When I eventually seen the doctor she confirmed I had a throat infection and was recommending I stay there on an IV which I refused as I just needed some antibiotics to take. My bill was $572 for the doctor to tell me I had a sore throat, $32 for the plastic cap to look into my ear and $32 for the plastic cap to take my temperature, $120 for the hotel taxi, $72 for my antibiotics and $60 dollars for the hotel nurse to see me. Don’t get ill

Worse experience
One of worst experiences. Been to few Hyatt resorts but never had this experience. We paid premium price for preferred club and got room after waiting for 2 hours. Today there is a loud music coming from outside and cannot go to sleep after long trip I am not sure how we can spend 5 more days
