Filthy, Frat party atmosphere & Terrible service - Far from luxury
We booked a master suite at Secrets The Vine for a long weekend after visiting Holbox (amazing place). Thinking this would be a lovely relaxing place to end a holiday. How wrong we were... Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely chap with cool towels and a couple of drinks. This was genuinely the highlight of the trip, it was down hill from there. The reception staff who never once smiled, handled a booking error terribly and then said the Ocean View room did not face the Ocean but rather the neighbouring hotels and their trash (see the pics, disgusting). The room was dated, sheets poor and the towels were more sandpaper than material. If for some reason you do stay here ask for an ‘Ocean Front’ room if you can get one. The food, where do I start. Firstly, all restaurants are first come first served (not luxury) and we waited over an hour one night for a table only to be served heavily over salted food (a theme throughout the stay). The only decent restaurant is the Bluewater grill as they do a decent steak but we had to buy wine as the house wine was battery acid. That said, the selection of wine was decent. At breakfast most mornings there were queues simply because the staff weren’t cleaning the tables. That and food was often missing. The pool areas - overcrowded, not enough beds, EVERY towel had a stain and the toilets gross. Also, the atmosphere is more that of a frat party than of a 5 star resort. All in all, I did not get what I paid for which was the major issue and management simply ignored us. There are many other better resorts in Cancun, please visit one of those and avoid this over priced frat house.
AMAZING experience and we’re 2 days in!!!!
Currently staying in this hotel and I only have one word..FABULOUS! We’re currently on the end of a short trip through Toronto, Las Vegas and Cancun and this hotel has been 2nd to none! We stayed in the Bellagio in Las Vegas and although it had its charm and attraction, the service and staff in Secrets The Vine completely stands out. The staff here cannot do enough for you. We chose to upgrade to the 24th floor on arrival and it was 100% worth the money...the access to the private infinity pool and its staff (Raul especially - thank you Señor) has made this an already unforgettable vacation spot. With its 7 restaurants, multiple bars and amazing poolside food, we’ve enjoyed every bite and drink. We’ve only tried the steak restaurant so far (AMAZING...try the fillet) and are going to try the Asian tonight and no doubt we won’t be disappointed. The rooms are amazing and the staff that attend to them are so friendly and professional. A must stay for couples! We will most certainly be back.
Great informative wine tasting.
Small selection of wines, but very meaningful explanations! Great for beginners and Luis was really awesome. Multilingal and very informed about both the process and other things that I never knew about. Very interactive.
The vine is a great vintage
We went on a 7day trip to secrets the Vine. This is a top drawer hotel and resort. The rooms all have great views. They are all ocean view rooms to some degree. We paid for an update to a junior suite and it is very roomy and grand. We also paid for the preferred club. That got us on the 25th floor and close to the ocean side. Amazing views. (Original north side deluxe room was nice as seen in the pics, but hard rock south side is better). Notes: Preferred club: I’m not sure it is really needed at this resort (was needed in breathless Punta cana). Preferred gets you on the higher floors (21st and up), into olio restaurant for lunch, and premium liquor like Belvedere vodka at the pool). But corona, bud light, are available to all guests. All restaurants are open to everyone at night. The preferred pool is cool, but we went in it once for about 5 minutes... then wanted to join everyone else at the other pools. Also preferred lounge in 21st floor is nice but nothing special. Rooms: Preferred gets you higher up. All rooms are good. Junior suite is bigger and nicer and if you can get a room with a lower number then you are closer to the ocean side. My preference. Bathroom is open to the room, and water closet has a glass door.. I’d prefer a bit more privacy for that, but it’s ok. Huge showers, and some rooms have a free standing tub. The balconies are huge and great. Amazing views. One issue was the rooms have thin walls and we could hear the tv next door even when it was not on loud. That was very annoying. They give you mini bottles of tequila, vodka, rye each day and mini Pringle’s and peanut m&m’s. Daily. Pool: No swim up bar, but not hard to get drinks, great pools, could be a bit warmer but we had rain and I think they cooled down a bit. Lots of loungers. We sent most of our time in the infinity pool and the hot tub. Beach: It’s awesome. Great sand and loungers. Water was warmer than the pools. Nice sandbar that you can walk out to. When water is calm, no seaweed issues and super clear water. If rough, it get a bit seaweedy. But still great. Got a boogie board when rough to surf the waves. Constant beach sellers was very annoying. Food: Poolside: great, pizza, steak sandwiches, fries, chili and cheese sauce. hamburger etc. all good. Sea salt restaurant also good. Get the shrimp tacos Dinner: all excellent, dragons was most visited and Thai chicken is great. Whole menu is good. Bluewater grill is good. Get the beef short ribs. Buffett: only spot I didn’t love. Not much selection of fresh made food here, it’s good food, just limited selection. This hotel favors restaurants instead of buffets. Not a big deal. Sports bar has good wings and nachos and fresh popcorn. Lobby bar has fresh soft pretzels and they are great but only cheese sauce available with the pretzels at night.... SO GOOD. AM Resorts vacation club seminar: We did the seminar to earn $300 hotel money. Suppose to be 90 minutes. Don’t ask questions if you want to keep it to 90 minutes. It wasn’t for us. They didn’t not want to take no for an answer. Spa: It’s a spa and nice and good massage... Gym: Um, ya, it overlooks the ocean and is awesome but I’m not working out on vacation... so if you like the gym in general, you’ll like this one... Overall: Pros: beach, south view side rooms, food, location, pools, friendly staff, did I mention the food? Cons: vendors on the beach and dude constantly blowing on the conch shells for sale (super annoying), lack of buffet selection, not sure preferred club had good value, glass door on bathroom. These are all minor cons.
First class service. Relaxation heaven
Absolutely stunning 5 star hotel. The service was beyond exceptional. Rooms came equipped with every amenity you could think of. Beautiful views, extremely comfortable bed, nice hot huge shower. Turn down service at night, slippers and robes. The 24 hour room service, breakfast to the room, the pool and beach waiter service, every single touch was incredible. The steak restaurant was fantastic, and a meal of the same quality would have easily cost £150 plus in london. I’d suggest the truffle mash! Nothing was too much of a problem, staff consistently went above and beyond when it came to satisfying customers. You could order 2/3 main dishes in the a la carte restaurants with no judgement. Food tasted amazing and the variety across the hotel was just fantastic. We ate sushi two nights in the oriental restaurants as it was just so fresh and indulgent. We stayed for a week and didn’t even manage to eat in all of the restaurants there was just so much choice. The 24 hour cafe made excellent coffee and the donuts/cinnamon buns etc were delicious and in no short supply. I actually had an accident outside of the hotel and badly sprained my ankle and I could not have felt safer and better looked after at secrets the vine. They helped me out of my taxi, brought me ice, concierge team helped me to ring hospitals, offered a doctor, provided me with a wheelchair, and could not stop offering help. The only reason for 4 stars was the evenings at the hotel were very quiet. The atmosphere was somewhat lacking and although it must be said we made so fantastic friends, and the people at the hotel as guests were a great bunch, I think the lack of atmosphere was in part due to people just heading to their rooms after dinner. There was also quite a lot of evening options spread through the resort which actually meant that none of the options/bars were particularly busy. That said, no expense was spared on the entertainment they did provide it’s just a shame it wasn’t busier. The main inside bar really needs some louder music in my opinion to create an atmosphere. Drinks were fantastic, great Sauvignon blanc and top spirits, cocktails in the piano bar were gorgeous, and service was quick. I would not hesitate to return to secrets resorts and found it extremely good value for money. We did a few trips, but as a couple who never do all inclusive and usually get itchy feet to explore, we found absolutely no need or want to venture out for food or drinks at all. My partner highly rated the gym, and I enjoyed the pilates classes. Mexican coffee was a highlight at breakfast, rice pudding, steak, and sushi for dinner. Juan one of the pool waiters was also extremely attentive and hard working, I don’t think I walked over to the bar once the whole week in the daytime. Room service ordered from an iPad and then wheeled in on a table was incredible, all part of your all inclusive. You can even hang a hanger on your door before 3am and they’ll bring you breakfast at a time of your choosing. If you are thinking of booking and want something indulgent, luxury, and relaxing, this is absolutely the place for you.
