The resort itself is beautiful on the outside the beaches are great nice sand. The beach chairs are very uncomfortable they need to be upgraded, the rooms need some work the bathroom is a wierd configuration. Where the toilet is the door never closed all glass doors for the shower and where the toilet is. The maid service or the mini bar service was inconsistant one day coffee and no water and opposite and only beer in the fridge which we never drank. The service everywhere was very slow and not professional for a Secrets resort. The only server we came across should be the Food and Beverage Manager and teaching all the others his name is Taj he was the server in the Blue Mountain Restaurant very professional and really was very knowledgeable about the menu and the beverages. Thank you. No Limes and no Lemons at this resort they told us they are not in season. So we got oranges for garnish in a Margarita drink. I wouldnt recomment going off the resort just not feeling safe unless you are with a group of people. This resort included the tips and it seemed like you had to tip everyone we did tip but it seemed a bit much the busboy the server the bartendar omg each and every time. I just dont think this resort deserved a 4 star because the service just wasnt there. Alot of people bothering you to upgrade or to buy into Secrets. It was annoying you couldnt go by the front desk with someone asking you.
Sort numbers of bar staff out!!
Quick review for others coming in next cpl if days. Bring strong mosquito spray...I get bit at least twice a night. Management....sort your staffing levels at the bars....the bar at the open stage has 1 staff serving....he works his damn best but it's not enough, if we were paying for drinks I'm sure you would have 4 or 5 servers, waiting 40 mins for a drink is ridiculous, if it wasn't for the waiters we wouldn't get a drink.....plus cut the measures....we waste half our drinks as they are too strong and not pleasant to drink....more to follow....
Preferred Club still shines
Third time back at Secrets St. James Preferred Club. This time our first time using the Unlimited Club credits. 9 days at the resort. its been a year since our last time here. We booked at the preferred club, as I was afraid we might not get the complementary upgrade into the preferred club rooms, despite our membership status. Good move, as they were pretty well booked. We did, however, get moved up to the 4th floor. We were initially on the 3rd. The issue was that the room was too close to the elevator, and people next door were a bit disruptive. The move up to the top floor was great. The ceiling is vaulted over the bed and the view was better. Otherwise, excellent as usual. My only complaint is that the menus in the Restaurants haven’t really changed menus since we were here last year. So a bit boring, but we have some dietary restrictions, so the chefs accommodated with some differences. We had the opportunity to tour Zoetry, while we were there. Their restaurants had a “Chef’s meal of the day” on the menu, so it was an added variety, that would be good to add to Secrets. Special thanks to Kenosha (unlimited club rep) for organizing our trip out to Zoetry, and to REN for driving us there and back safely. Our unlimited club rep Shan, who reviewed all our benefits and helped us upgrade the room. That made our trip! Went to El Patio, the Mexican restaurant, a couple of times. Our waiter, Fabion, was unbelievably good. Brought us the extra hot hot sauce, and service was the best we’ve seen at Secrets. Special mention to Tomika, and Joanie (sp?) in the preferred dining room. They were great! Always happy and very helpful. We also went to Oceana for lunch and dinner, which was good. We also went to Bordeaux, the French restaurant and Hitsu, the Japanese restaurant, which were good. Even ordered room service a couple of times, as we wanted to try it out. Different food and the service was quick and food excellent. The ordering off the in-room tablet was a bit weird, as certain quantities were a bit off. Got four glasses of juice instead of two, and one day the order note was not read. The server took away that order and replaced it very quickly, so no problem at all. Kudos to the server (sorry, couldn’t remember his name) for correcting the order so quickly. We booked a couple’s massage at the spa when I booked the holiday through the Unlimited club phone centre. Nadine and Colleen were fantastic. We left the spa in a relaxed state. Enjoyed the steam room and sauna, as well. We learned that we could use the beach restaurant at Breathless. It was a great lunch spot. Quiet and comfortable and the food and service was good! Special shout out to Romain and Marlando, for being such excellent bar people, at the St. James Main pool. We enjoyed an afternoon talking with some new friends and laughing it up with everyone. A really fun afternoon talking to some people from the UK on a pass from a cruise ship. The resort was hopping at some points, as there were some commercial companies there with their staff. I’m pretty sure everyone was having fun! Overall, another great trip Thanks to everyone on staff that helped us have a great time and kept supporting us without our asking!
The stay here wasn’t terrible. Clean rooms and friendly staff. However, the food wasn’t great and everything closed early. There wasn’t much to do on the resort either. With that said, you have to pay for a taxi just to go have some fun!
My husband and I are in our early thirties and have stayed at Secret's Maroma several times and wanted to explore another Secret's resort. We have never been to Jamaica before and Maroma is amazing so we thought we would try another sister resort, however, it is nothing like Maroma. When you pay premium prices for a week (over $6,000 CA for two adults), your expectations are somewhat high. When we arrived late on a Friday night, the staff seemed exhausted. As we navigated to our room, the hallways were disgusting filled with dirt and dead bugs on the ground. When we got to our room, I did a tour and was disgusted with the dirt and lack of maintenance. There was toothpaste on the bathroom counter tops, dirty/muddy rugs, hair and dirt in the bathtub, the caulking in the shower was chunky and falling off, the toilet room baseboards looked like something you would find in an airport all damaged and grungy. The toilet was impossible to flush/would get stuck and when I called the maintenance crew, "the engineer" as the staff called him, said "ah no problem, the toilet is fine, just shift the top part and it should eventually work". After asking to change rooms, they said we had to wait a day but we would have to check our bags at noon and have to wait until 4pm. I demanded that they show me the room change first, and was equally disappointed so we stayed in our room. I have attached photos below. Next, our bedroom safe had an error so we had to get the batteries changed. Waited an hour for someone to come only having to wait again the next day because the safe failed again and the whole thing had to be replaced. The staff have no concept of time. They say we will be right up, and you wait over an hour everytime. You waste half your vacation in your room waiting for staff to fix your things. Furthermore, the food is mediocre. The meals seem to be make shift, whatever they can put together to sound like what the menu should be. You look around the room of any restaurant you are in and the it is just faces filled with disappointment. To be fair, the only restaurant I didn't complain about was the Italian because how can you mess up pasta? Apparently, you can but I won't complain to that degree. The staff are hit or miss. They seem happy one minute then annoyed the next. I will say the bartenders are usually quite happy. The top shelf premium liquor is mainly at the lobby bars and when they run out, they are out. The grounds are not that well kept as it appears staff clean it about once a week. There is even one building I can see where the shingles are falling off the roof. Forget about working out! There is one tiny gym that is shared between three resorts, with no air con and you are practically stepping on the person next to you. Overall, there's more I could say that disappointed me, but I will say this. Jamaica is gorgeous and this resort could be paradise with the stunning beaches and waters but it needs to be renovated and staffed with people who deliver quality service. Perhaps this is a message to the shareholders of AM Resorts. You are lucky you currently have suckers paying premium prices for this resort but it won't last long. You have a potential gem that you should be nurturing not letting it deteriorate. Positives: the piano bar,the beaches, the weather, and the views from most rooms.
