Wonderful Long Weekend
This was our first time at a Secrets after having been to several other all inclusive family resorts in the Cancun area. We chose an adult only resort to celebrate our anniversary. We absolutely loved the vibe of this property. Good crowd, great service, and beautiful grounds. We were able to relax, but were never bored. From the bike tours, sushi classes, water sports and poolside activities, Israel, Alejandra, and crew were a lot of fun and did a fabulous job keeping everyone entertained! Restaurants were stunning and we enjoyed the food much more than anticipated based on the reviews here. Rooms were clean and well-stocked. Staff was attentive and accommodating at all times (Enrique and Uriel stood out). We had a great trip and are already planning a family trip to the Dreams side of the resort!
So nice we tried it Twice!
We traveled to Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort (SPM) twice recently. The first time was with my wife and another couple (August 4 – 8) and the second time with my wife (Nov 3 – 7). Obviously we enjoyed the resort or we wouldn’t have returned three months later. Actually, the first visit was so good that I was kind of expecting to be disappointed the second time. Wrong. Both trips were fantastic and we highly recommend this resort. I’m not a big name dropper, but I have to tell you about Roger in the pool concierge department. Roger is a wonderful Secrets employee and after just a few days I was totally impressed with his attitude and work ethic. Always wearing a smile and asking to help. Above and beyond would best describe our impression of this young man. If all of my employees were as good as Roger, I could work a lot less! Thanks again Roger, we hope to see you again real soon. Our favorite waiter at the breakfast and lunch buffet is Ruben. We remember Ruben from another resort he used to work at before he came to SPM. Ruben and his partner (sorry, I forgot her name) go to great lengths to insure great service. Many other resorts don’t necessarily have great service at the buffets. It’s great at the SPM. The resort was over 95% occupied on our second trip. We had requested our same room, 3226 when we booked and ended up with 3426 the second time (2 floors up). This was even better because of the view over the palm trees. These are club rooms and we think they are worth the extra cost. Also, our housekeeping staff was outstanding every day. Thank you to the unsung heroes in housekeeping. We had the opportunity to see the Secrets Idol show on each of our trips. They were very entertaining and completely opposite. The first time, none of the contestants could sing at all, and it was a riot. We laughed a lot. The second time, almost all of the contestants could sing really well, and that was just as fun, just on the opposite end of the talent spectrum. The Rock Show was very good as well. That band does a good job of covering a set of classic rock hits that everyone knows and enjoys. The food at SPM is pretty good. If you order a steak, order a filet. The filet here is very good and that’s not always the case at other resorts in Mexico. Overall I would grade the food from A- to B+. The service was always good, never bad. One warning, be careful of slippery tile when it’s wet. I took a fall once because of this, and I thought I was being careful. We saw two others slip and fall while we were there. The Dreams resort next door is a nice expansion of dining, drinking and swimming options for those lucky enough to have longer vacations. The golf carts are quick and we rarely had to wait more than a few minutes for a ride to the top or to next door. We highly recommend the Secrets Playa Mujeres and we will be returning with friends as soon as possible.

This hotel's staff is top notch! Starting with Vielka who greeted us with her super smile and completed our check in with such professionalism. Our request to upgrade was processed while setting our expectations. She anticipated our requests by asking the right questions, where we wanted our dinners and arranged for our times to be reserved, setting up our Romantic dinner and always followed up to ensure our satisfaction was met. It was fantastic to have her as our concierge throughout the week. The preferred lobby staff were all very personable and ready to please. The entire hotel staff as well. Marylena at the pool side and early morning preferred club, Marcella at the beach, Roger the Beach concierge only to name a few, but they all had a sunny disposition. Vielka arranged to have us try Meze (Middle eastern restaurant) on Dreams side. This was our 3rd time to Dreams and Secrets Playa Mujeres and we had yet to try Meze. It did not disappoint. From being greeted and shown to our table, there we were introduced to Lucio Diaz Cordova our server who suggested we meet Chef Adrian. Adrian prepared Indian specialties and the entire service by Lucio was attentive and pleasant and our food was delicious, from the appetizers to our main courses; babaganoush, hummus with spicy secret spice, couscous with recipe to try at home, chicken masala to the rack of lamb. Oh my god, what wonderful flavors. the Somelier, Christian (sorry if it was not his name) was also very knowledgeable both with our wine pick and the tequila tasting for our digestif. We were totally pleased. Great suggestion Vielka! Another Dinner experience was at Bordeaux. The dinner was delicious as well, so are all the other restaurants, but these were most memorable due to the staff, Rogelio our server suggested our appetizers and entree with creme brulée for desert and every course was delicious. Hayden the Bordeaux captain made sure we had a wonderful experience and Rogelio was most attentive. Our greeter Ana was also very professional with confidence. The Playa Mujeres Beach stretch is the most wonderful place on that whole coast! Our camarista, Isola, was also great. I also have to mention Martha. We missed her on the beach as she was the beach concierge in July but we new to find her and had pleasant conversations with her at the pool. When you get to know the people there, they are like family. We also like chatting with Berenice (entertainment). I don't have much more to share. I am a Isla Mujeres fan first and always, but when I want a quick week away to get pampered, I love to visit Secrets PM. Keep doing what you do best.
Would love to go back again. We’ve visited Mexico for the last four years and have stayed at various resorts. This was a pleasant experience. Beach was awesome. Crew working hard keeping up with the sea weed. ( not to bad this year ). Food, cleanliness, grounds, staff,
I hate to say I was very disappointed in this so called diamond resort. Crappy food, poor service even with good tips and not much to do. We went here for our honeymoon so spent extra on preferred club and boy was that a waste. NOT worth the $$. I did my research before we went and everyone raved about this resort So I had expectations but none that were that much different than other resorts. The room cleaning service was mediocre not getting to our room every day. Some days we would leave for the beach and come back to see they had not cleaned our room and they put the do not disturb sign up but claimed we had done it. (We had not). In a week this happened 3 times. Our mini bar was not restocked as promised even when we called down as a reminder. Keeping in mind we were not being stingy tippers. As for the A la carte restaurants available, I wasn’t disappointed in Oceana a seafood option, the seaside grill was okay (more your pub food). The buffet was to be expected, lots of options obviously. However the Italian restaurant had to be some of the worst food I’ve ever had. Starters were just ok but the main was terrible. We each got a steak that had looked like and tasted like it had been microwaved or maybe not fully thawed before being cooked and the centre was cold and raw and outside of the steak was grey. The sauce was salty on the pasta and very over cooked. For us this tipped the scales and turned our stomachs.
