Customer Ratings & Reviews

Staff is friendly, food is good, beach is beautiful.
Great staff included but was not limited too...Sunwing Rep. Sharon, Inociende up front, Rec guys Alejandro and Francisco, as well as many waiters, waitresses, maids and bartenders. We will be back. It is a testament to Secrets that many staff have been there since it opened. We love to see their friendly faces.
The pluses far outweigh the minuses which is why I'm giving this a 5. What are those pluses? The views, the weather, the pools, the ocean and the service are all AMAZING (if you go, make sure you watch Isaul work at the pool bar - the guy is incredible. And Jeza is a wonderful member services executive). The general area around the resort and the town seem very clean and safe - we went to town one night for dinner, taxi driver was super friendly, food was great at Terracotta - walked around and felt very comfortable. The food at the resort - neutral. Had some that was really good (Seafood and hibachi) and some that was not so much (French and the Mexican night buffet). The minuses - a number of little things - The toilet didn't flush well (had to call to have it fixed twice - but they came immediately both times!), the 3 elevators you need to use to get from rooms to the pool area and back were a big bottleneck - and sometimes didn't work well. The sand on the beach was incredibly hot - and very course (full of broken shells). It's a beautiful beach, but you've got to have something on your feet or it just hurts. And then there's getting there. We went through Mexico city - on the way down, now issue. On the way back, MEX got shut down for 4 hours the day of our departure for fog/smog. Flight attendant on the flight we did get on said that's not uncommon November through January. We missed our connection and ended up spending a lot of time flying to try to get home in a reasonable amount of time... Lots of other ways to get there, but be careful of this... In general, it's on the quieter side - which we were perfectly fine with. There are lots of things to do, but you gotta go seek them out - water volleyball, beach volleyball (wear shoes!), kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing.... We loved it. This is our 4th secrets and we'd put it right behind Maroma Beach in terms of overall experience. We'll go back for sure - but will likely avoid going through Mexico City....
Very bland food in all restaurants. Every day same menus, limited choices and one coffee expresso machine in the whole hotel. Most of the staff don't speak English. Staff works hard, but our opinion is that management doesn't do their job. Access to the beach is very bad and very poor selection of drinks for this hotel.
A fantastic Westjet Vacation package!
We just arrived back home after a week at Secrets. This was our first time in Huatulco, just my wife and I for an adult Sanity Break. I'll try to be thorough but concise. Airport - Small but efficient. Two separate buildings for arrivals and departures, air conditioned. Only 8 gates - 4 for domestic, 4 for international flights. Transfer - As we had booked with Westjet Vacations, the transfer was arranged. An air conditioned bus took Canadians off of our flight to Dreams, La Bahia, and then to Secrets. The resort - the property occupies Conejos Bay, the easternmost of the "Nine Bays" of Huatulco. It was recently built and in overall great shape. The resort is built into a cliffside, with six buildings (three pairs) down the slope leading down to the beach. We occupied a room with a splash pool in building 1, which was closest off of the main foyer of the resort. Our room was in good shape but showing a few signs of wear from other occupants (scuffs on the wall, shower flooring showing some wear). Overall very nice. The beach - Conejos Bay is walkable in 10-15 minutes from side to side. Part of the beach is roped off for occupants to swim in, and a lifeguard was on duty through the day. The easternmost part of the bay was used for snorkelling excursions as there was live coral there. Small paths off of each end of the beach lead to another beach to the east (very short walk), and to another bay to the west (did not do this one, longer walk, higher change in elevation). The food - Good for an all inclusive resort. Four bars, seven restaurants. None of the restaurants required reservations (only one exception to this). The Market Grill was the main buffet style restaurant for breakfasts and lunch, lots of options for everyone (vegetarian, vegan, meat eaters, etc.) at every time of day when open. Tamarindo - Mexican, specializes in Oaxacan specialties such as moles and crickets (yes, fried spicy crickets for the daring). Bordeaux - French cuisine, had a very good filet and fish dish here. Spice - Asian, has a teppanyaki table that needs to be reserved ahead of time, basic sushi and reasonable Asian cuisine here (Mexican version of ramen, sweet & sour pork, pad thai). Oceana - seafood, this was quite good given how fresh the fish and shellfish were. Castaways - casual breakfasts and lunches, and when open in the evening a steakhouse, we had most of our breakfasts here and enjoyed the Swiss style enchilads. Cin Cin - Italian, did not try this one. The pools - HUGE pools, very clean. The west pool is a quiet pool, the east pool a more active pool with volleyball, basketball, walk up bar. Three of the buildings (1, 5, 6) had walk out splash pools for their occupants to use, 5 & 6 are at the bottom of the cliff nearest the pools. There was also a palapa area on the beach that was surprisingly easy to get a couple of spots at to lounge all day. The staff - as usual, the best part of coming to Mexico. Incredibly friendly and helpful. We had some noise issues with other occupants on our first and last day at the resort, and the front desk staff were incredibly attentive and helpful. The poolside and lounge staff were constant in their rounds looking after the guests throughout the day. A shoutout to Angel is deserved - this fellow is "The Restaurant Whisperer" and consistently provided excellent advice about dinners. Activities - lots of scheduled activites throughout the day. Westjet Vacations has partnered up with a local company, MaxiTravel, who provided great information about the Huatulco area and the tours available with them, and it was comforting that it was not a hard sell. We went on a Bay Excursion with MaxiTravel with Temo as the tour guide, and he was AWESOME. His secret is that he spent 20 years growing up in Brooklyn. The excursion was a lot of fun, the snorkelling in one of the protected bays wonderful. Cons - The rooms are oriented in twos, with a pass through door connection. We had some issues with how much noise we could hear from the connecting room. There are also only three elevators to get guests from the topmost Restaurant level down to the pools and the beach, got very busy at times - the other alternative was to come down the west side of the resort on the service roads, or take seven stories of steps up and down next to the elevators. Angel joked with us that he would see us "in three weeks" when we told him we were returning to Canada yesterday. Huatulco is a gem - lush, warm, safe and friendly. We will happily return soon.
Love this resort!
We just arrived home from spending a week at Secrets in Huatulco and want to go back as soon as we can! The resort is beautiful and the people working there are amazing. Everyone we had contact with made a special effort to make us feel welcome and to meet any needs we had. My husband caught a blue marlin and Isabel (Concierge) made arrangements right away for a special dinner to be made with it at the restaurant Oceana. It was delicious and Ivonne (Supervisor) made sure we were comfortable and Noel took great care of us over dinner. The Chef came out with each course served to explain what we were having and answer any questions we might have. On one of the few remaining days of our trip, my husband wasn't feeling well and as we sat down at a table in the Market Cafe, Adelaida knew right away that he was dehydrated. She immediately made him an electrolyte drink and brought it over for him to drink and then made another before we left the cafe to make sure he felt better. It really did help so much. Love to you Adelaida!!! This really is a special place and Huatulco is beautiful. We are also so glad that we were there to experience the Day of the Dead celebrations. I really can't say enough good things about the people who work at the resort and take care of the guests. This was really one of our favourite vacations.
