Great getaway, perfect for couples looking for a smaller more laid back atmosphere. We recently returned from a 5 day, 4 night stay at Secrets Capri. This resort is All Preferred, so there is not a separate Preferred section or options. The resort is I believe one of their smallest properties, so their options are limited. If you are looking for a resort that is quaint, cozy and not a lot of hustle and bustle this is the place! IF you are looking for a place with SO many food options you can't eat at them all, a pool that is open until 10pm and happening night life - this is not the place for you.
The service poolside and at the restaurants was amazing. The food at the main building restaurants was delicious. Shout out to Victor at Italian, Alberto in the lobby bar, Geovanny, Guadalupe & Tomas at the pool, Paula & her server Adelaido at the Asian restaurant and Alejandro at Seaside. We truly loved the food at the Asian & Italian restaurants along with the Cactus Club, Coffee Shop and Breakfast buffet. The shrimp ceviche at lunch was beyond amazing. Adelaido at the Asian restaurant brought out a delicious assortment of appetizers, we were disappointed when we found out that we couldn't have a repeat visit on our last night it was that good. We really enjoyed the poolside entertainment especially the acoustic guitar duo and the evening entertainment provided in the lobby. I would say that the entertainment team was less engaging than at other AmResorts and Excellence properties. Overall I would strongly recommend this property.
This is a much smaller Secrets Resort compared to many others in the line. It also appears to be an older property that is in need of repair and maintenance. It rained every day during our stay and the roof leaked in numerous parts of the complex. Based on the water staining, this could not have been a new event or surprise to the resort staff. Not what we expected from a Secrets branded property. The service, food, and other items were all good.
Great Time In The Mayan Riviera
Third time at the Secrets Capri and was a GREAT time as always. The resort is the perfect size and the staff is excellent. I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in staying in this area. The only reason we did not give a 5 star rating is because the room leaked water for 3 straight days. The week we visited saw a large amount of rain and unfortunately some came into the room from the roof.
My husband and I have been visiting Secrets and Dreams twice a year for the past few years. This was our least favorite Secrets. Although a very tropical feel, it is a very small property, quite loud and in need of some upgrading. Here's some of my observations... Pros People Brenda--hostess at several restaurants had the best smile ever and was great at remembering things about you. If I were to return to this resort it would be because of her! Entertainment- Outstanding. Beatles show really great. Country show excellent music and dancers. My only wish is the dancers would have had costumes that covered more skin. Felt uncomfortable because of this and left early. Rooms Marble floors beautiful Bed and pillows comfortable. Old world Classic Mexican style--loved! Bathroom had small shower and small tub and two sinks. Magnifying mirror in bathroom was a plus for me. Safe available and ample closet hanging room. Enough shelves not much drawer space. Grounds Compact resort. Palm trees everywhere. Bougainvillea as you walk out of lobby to beach. Very clean Hammocks on the beach. Shuffle board and ping pong available. Kayaks available. Dance lessons at pool. Plenty of pool chairs and Bali beds (at pool and beach)you can reserve. Main lobby houses the theatre—nice set up. Pleasantly cool in theatre. Bottom level of lobby has natural area w lots of turtles. They are fun to watch. Rod iron stair cases and big chandeliers. Almost Spanish feel. Fresh gorgeous flower bouquets on main lobby tables. Pool waiters and servers at every restaurant were excellent. Food/Restaurants Coco Cafe open 24 hrs. Great coffee and tea drinks. Business center in coffee shop w computers so you can check in to your flight early. Love that they offer yogurt and fresh fruit at coffee shop. La Riveria-Breakfast is best meal of day. French toast and omlettes and fresh fruit are great. Don’t forget your Mexican Hot Chocolate and a Mimosa. Cactus Club-Love the Chicken Caesar Salad Himitsu-unable to get reservation Sea Side Grill—becomes steak house in evenings. Spinach salad was great. Oceana-seats 32,inside outside seating as well. Few stairs up to restaurant. Catch of day not good--husband said tasted very fishy. Chicken was amazing. Best meal all week-he ended up sharing my chicken. No dessert in restaurant as they had dessert in lobby. Portifino- Enjoyed the Vegetarian Lasagne and my husband liked the Fettuccine and requested chicken to be added which they gladly accommodated. Wine Cellar-can be booked for $120. The greens/salads from every restaurant was the highlight for me. Really fresh and delicious. Nightly Lobby Entertainment is great: singers, piano, electric guitar... singer w guitar player on Thursday night was not good at all. I’m not super picky, but the music wo the voice would’ve been much better. Spa Above average 80 min relaxation massage great Facial and Fish Spa treatment was also very nice. At least my husband enjoyed the fish. My feet were a little too ticklish for this—interesting experience. Hydrotherapy circuit was really great. Sauna, steam room, showers, warm to cool river rock circle path, main circuit had spouts for shoulders, neck, back and legs. Also large hot tub and 50 degree plunge pool. Relaxation areas for between treatments. Really nice experience. Observations: Tiles need updating at pool H & C knobs mislabeled in room 531. Little other landscape besides palm trees, but it is very tropical and the resort compact so not a lot of room for landscaping. Only 1 pool—seems to have a quieter end and the other (where the swim up bar is) quite noisy. 5 restaurants + buffet La Riveria. Some restaurants are closed in evenings—usually only 1. No Bordeaux restaurant at this Secrets. There are events outside near pool area where dinner is also served. You need to reserve a table for this. No AC in lobby and hallways leading to rooms. AC either not on or turned to a warm temp in restaurants. I’m a girl that always needs a sweater and I maybe used it twice in a week. Per digital thermometer (phone app) in evening reads “80 degrees feels like 86 degrees”. Not comfortable temperature to sit and enjoy music or relax and visit after dinner. Most restaurants same. No sleeves needed. The main lobby has a strong lemon chemical smell combined w the heat can be overwhelming. Calm soothing music in mornings at poolside that turns quite loud and active early afternoon. At that point there is no quiet and relaxing pool as the area is small and music can be heard entire outside area The building is in a U- shape for ultimate viewing of the ocean it limits the breeze up by the pool in the loungers. It’s difficult to be outside without an umbrella over your chair and although the Bali beds are nice it’s almost too hot to be in them for any length of time. (November visit) Internet drops out multiple times every hour and you have to constantly sign back in. If you are trying to work this can be a real problem. One of the louder resorts I’ve been at-- from volume of music to people talking and laughing loudly even midnight and after. There is no true ceiling over lobby so sound from bar carries up to the floors where rooms are. Evening shows and beach entertainer staff scantily clothed. (Thong shorts) Water pressure in shower or tub can go from blasting to a trickle as well as hot to cold. Recover is quick, but can be a nuisance. Mexican food and Mariachi show private in La Riveria Restaurant Fri night. You can book a table only if you buy a bottle of wine. Caution Slippery areas Marble bathroom floor slick Pool—Almost fell just cooling off my feet at edge of pool. There is a mat and handrail—use it! Husband got sick one night after eating sliders (with mayo) that had been sitting out at buffet. Was sick for 4 days. Coati’s will come right up, stand on back 2 legs and beg if you feed them. One was on our balcony on 5th floor. Birds will swoop down right into lunch plate at Cactus Club.
